Edit workflow at runtime save in db and restart on per client basis

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 16, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Windows Application
I need to be able to create a workflow in code (not a problem). Start the workflow and edit it depending on business logic (Add Parallel branches) save workflow in database per client. Pull workflow defintion from database by client and continue to work and persist as workflow progreeses. I thought XamlServices or ActivityXamlServices but i can't seem to get to the individual activities to edit.

Save Workflow Runtime as Application State or Session State for a website with multiple users?

I used Windows Workflow Foundation 3.5 as a page flow navigation for a ASP.NET website's Previous and Next page navigation.

The site acts like a shopping cart and each user has his own session and user data.  The app only has one WF.  I am not sure if I should generate one Workflow Runtime for every user or for simply generate one workflow Runtime for the entire application in my case?

In the global.asax:

void Application_Start(object sender, EventArgs e)

void Application_End(object sender, EventArgs e)
    void Session_Start(object sender, EventArgs e)
        // Code that runs when a new session is started
        System.Workflow.Runtime.WorkflowRuntime workflowRuntime = new System.Workflow.Runtime.WorkflowRuntime(WorkflowManager.WorkflowRuntimeKey);

Hello good people,

I have this beast as an error. Did my research and found some posts here as well but did not do any good for me.

Here is what I did. I had an error regarding issue rights with COM objects so I gave access rights under component services for Microsoft Excel application now I am getting this error.

Here is some information regarding this

1. Gave rights to ASPNET and network service to my web app directory to try to fix this error.

2. The exact same process works on my Windows 2003 server and my Windows 7 development machine. I am trying to get this going on a different windows 2003 machine that is outside of our domain.

3. Developing on windows 7 64 bit with office 2010 installed. Also excel 2010 is installed on my Web server

4. Here is the code that is causing the error: The last line is causing the error.:

            MyXl = new Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application();
            MyXl.Visible = false;
            MyWb = (Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel._Workbook)(MyXl.Workbooks.Add(Missing.Value));
            int test = 0;
            MySheet = (Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel._Worksheet)MyXl.ActiveSheet;
            if (reader.HasRows)
                int InRow = 2;
                for (int i = 0; i < Nu

System.InvalidOperationException: Instance operation is not valid on workflow runtime thread

Am getting the exception related in the title of this article when using the StateMachineWorkflowInstance object to arbitarily set state in my workflow code; and am unsure why.  The code follows below:   500     Protected Overrides Function Execute(ByVal executionContext As System.Workflow.ComponentModel.ActivityExecutionContext) As System.Workflow.ComponentModel.ActivityExecutionStatus   501    502    506         Dim smwi As StateMachineWorkflowInstance = New StateMachineWorkflowInstance(StaticWFRuntime.LocalRuntime, Me.WorkflowInstanceId)   511    512         'set workflow-wide database connection string   513         _connectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("ConnectionString").ConnectionString   518    519         Utility.LogEnabled()   520    521         Utility.FoaeaLogger.WriteEntry("Processing TracingApplication.Execute()....", EventLogEntryType.Information)   522         If StaticWFRuntime.LocalRuntime Is Nothing OrElse StaticWFRuntime.LocalRuntime.IsStarted = False Then   523             Utility.FoaeaLogger.WriteEntry("No static RuntimeService object exists!", EventLogEntryType.Warning)   524         End If   525    526         Return MyBase.Execute(executionContext)   527    528     End Function   796     Private Sub gotoState2_ExecuteCode(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs)   797    798

Workflow Runtime

I was going to build one for myself, but has anyone developed a full-featured, production caliber WF 4.0 runtime for ASP.NET which includes persistence and dynamic control of instances?  I was hoping to just buy one to save time.

How to read and save client side textarea control value ?

Hi. I am now trying to solve some problem. I want to read textarea value in client side behind code. I know if I use runat property, it will be solved easily. But is there any way to read client textarea value without using runat property ? I need to read textarea value and save them to my database. If there is someone who has experience in this case, please help me. thanks

Workflow Runtime and Long Running Processes

I am trying to get a handle on the fact that applications have to manage the persistance of workflows directly. in 4.0.  If I set a workflow to run every night at 3:00 AM and then be persisted, how will I know that my application will be awake and ready to do the job.  I know that SharePoint currently uses a timer on the server which fires off every 5 minutes (default).

Workflow does not save settings

Hi, all! I have created a site on SharePoint 2010 (Team site template). Convigured several approval workflows based on a template of the "Adoption of SharePoint 2010 " for the Shared documents library. Then keep this site as a template. After I have created another site on previous saved this template. That is, the workflows themselves under the same name in the document library are present, but all settings (participnts accounts, the duration of tasks, etc.) - no. How to deal with this? It is necessary that users would not think of workflows settings, and run ready.

How to save the edits made at runtime in the datatable

Hi, I am having problem in updating the contents of my datatable in datagrid. When i run the program and edit the contents of the rows in my datatable they remain there, but when i close the program and run it once more they are set back to their original predefined contents. Please tell me that how can i save the edits made at runtime in my datatable.

Designer workflow + unable to edit task

I use the SPD to create a custom workflow which will assign to-do task to users. The workflow is attached to a list library in a subsite and users only have view-only permission to the subsite (users are added to the subsite directly, not inside any sharepoint group).  In order for users to complete the assigned task, I have broken the permission inheritance and change users to have contribute permission on the Task list.   The workflow would trigger as expected and a new task is created for the user. The user can see the "edit task" link in the task item but when clicked "edit task", an "access denied" error occurs.   Under further investigation, I notice access are granted for sharepoint group e.g. site visitors, site members on URL http://....../workflow/workflow_name/newtask.aspx , and only when I create the workflow under the site administrator account. If I create the workflow under an account which also has "Full Control" to the subsite, No access are granted to the workflow library at all.   What permission levels do I need to create workflows in designer really? Does it make a difference if the workflow is on a top-root site or subsite? Full control on the top-root site or subsite?   Thanks in advance.

How to save settings in wpf runtime

I am making a wpf webBrowser application. My problem is: This is probley very easy, but i can't figure it out for the life of me! How can i save eveything like history and bookmarks so that when the program is closed it opens up as  the user closed it, with bookmarks and history still there? Thanks in advance!

Workflow AND/OR Tasks - how can I create one that occurs/recurrs on a weekly basis.

Hi All, Any ideas how I could configure SharePoint 2010 to trigger a workflow for a site member that notifies them to perform  a specific task ? I have a timesheet template that I intend to create a content type from. the use case is that each site member needs to fill out a timesheet at the start of the week to indicate what work they will be doing for the week. Is it possible ( using customisation ) to create a workflow so that a site member is prompted to create a new timesheet at the start of everyweek ? Alternatively can a recurrent task be created instead ? i.e. on the monday of every week create a new task for each site member to "create new weekly timesheet" Thanks and regards, Counie

Need advice to display data in DataGridView, then edit dan save the data

Did this DataGridView can editable? or Once row in DataGridView is selected, then popup another form to perform edit transaction. Really need advice and good example

How to Pass a Grid an EF Object and have it edit/update etc. without postbacks until save?

Hey all.Here's what I'm trying to do:I want to pull an EF object, or create a new one. Pass it to javascript (jquery or some such) and then have the grid bind on the client side and do everything client side from that point forward. (edits, validation etc.) Once complete, I want jquery to push back via a pagemethod or web service or whatever, the updated EF object so that i can persist it.Reason?I need a highly scalable architecture that handles not storing objects in the session or posting to a database when they haven't been saved to a user. I know I can do this with Silverlight, however given MS's less than convincing comments about Silverlight's future vs HTML 5, I'm strongly leaning towards asp.net or mvc.net if I can come up with a way to use jquery (or even a 3rd party control that does this!) to handle all of the data editing, updating etc. for a master/child display (i.e. Invoice) without the server having to store it and without having to use the viewstate.Ideas?In my mind this would be the holly grail. Render the page, push the data to the controls, have the controls do their thing until save without ever doing server processing, and then on save, push back the object and allow the server to persist it (and probably do server validation before presisting it just in case). By doing this you could make superscalable apps that

Refresh Parent Page List after Edit Item Modal Dialog Save/Close

I am calling the Edit Item URL (EditForm.aspx?ID=x&IsDlg=1) via javascript code to bring up the Edit Item Modal Dialog. This works fine and dandy. But what callbackfunction should I invoke after the Save so that the parent list is refreshed? Is there a better way to do it than call reload on the entire parent frame? It almost looks like there should be a way to refresh just the list. Any help appreciated. Thanks, Jake.
