Unique Pack URIs for resources (embedded / content / resource files) in several assemblies

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 16, 2010    Points: 0   Category :WPF

Hello, When using resources as files (build actione=none and copy if newer), I'm able to manage resources using something like this : "/file.ico". Whatever the owner assembly is, because all files are copied in the Debug / Release directory. I'd like to have a similar behavior with pack URIs. I don't want to specify which assembly is the owner of an embedded / content / resource file. It seems impossible because we need to specify the source assembly ("pack://assembly_08:,,,/file.ico"), I'd like something like : "pack://whatever_the_assembly:,,,/file.ico". Is it possible ? Any idea ? Thanks.

Unique content within master page based on conditions met

 Hi all-

I would like to present users with unique content based on certain conditions being met as they land on the home page (default.aspx).  The condition logic will be in the VB code behind Page Load event. The content will go in a content placeholder as specificed from the master page.

However, the content change wouldn't be something small (ie making a panel or label visible or not) but rather it will be different HTML,  Divs and databound gridview content.  The HTML content will be stored in the database.

Can someone point me in the right direction for best practices on how to accomplish this?

Thanks!

External Code Assemblies, Report Subscriptions, and configuration files

I've got a report that relies on a very small external assembly for data for one of its fields.  That assembly, in turn, relies on some values from System.Configuration for portions of its work. I have the configuration keys and values running fine in the web interface, set up in web.config, but when users set up subscriptions for the report it runs fine but doesn't retrieve the configuration values from web.config (as expected) nor does it retrieve them from rsreportserver.config, where I have tried them in the root of the config file as <add key=... /> entries and also by wrapping them inside an <appSettings /> node.  I have also tried them in an appropriately-name config file in the bin directory.  In all cases the report is fine except the field that relies on the external assembly, where I recieve an error indicating that there's missing information (the config vals are used in a String.Format() call): Value cannot be null. Parameter name: format at System.String.Format(IFormatProvider provider, String format, Object[] args) at ExternalDBFunctions.ExternalSelectors.GetNotificationStati(String NotificationID) mscorlib When I remove the config values from the web.config, the web interface shows exactly the same error. Where should these configuration values go?

Saving Canvas and other UIElements as embedded resource

Hi All, I am trying to save a canvas and its content as an embedded resource to another assembly but in doing so I got a Non-Serializable exception. Is there a better way of doing this? Here is the code I used in embedding the Canvas: // create an assembly AssemblyName assemblyName = new AssemblyName(System.IO.Path.GetFileNameWithoutExtension(filename)); AssemblyBuilder assemblyBuilder = AppDomain.CurrentDomain.DefineDynamicAssembly(assemblyName, AssemblyBuilderAccess.RunAndSave); ModuleBuilder moduleBuilder = assemblyBuilder.DefineDynamicModule(assemblyName.Name, assemblyName.Name + ".dll"); // create a class TypeBuilder typeBuilder = moduleBuilder.DefineType("ModuleName", TypeAttributes.Public, typeof(EmbeddedBAML)); // Create a default constructor ConstructorBuilder constuctorDefault = typeBuilder.DefineConstructor(MethodAttributes.Public, CallingConventions.Standard, Type.EmptyTypes); ILGenerator ilGenerator = constuctorDefault.GetILGenerator(); ilGenerator.Emit(OpCodes.Ldarg_0); ilGenerator.Emit(OpCodes.Call, typeof(EmbeddedBAML).GetConstructor(Type.EmptyTypes)); ilGenerator.Emit(OpCodes.Ret); typeBuilder.CreateType(); IResourceWriter resourceWriter = assemblyBuilder.DefineResource(assemblyName.Name + ".canvas", "Contains the Canvas object",assemblyName.Name + ".canvas", ResourceAttributes.Pu

Files in document libary not picking up the correct content types

Hi, I have a document libary where I have 10 InfoPath content types attached. For eg: Type1, Type2 etc... Type10. In this doc lib, I have a folder for each cutomer, and inside each of those folders, I have a file of each Content type (".xml"). I am creating these Folders and files programatically. The problem is that, the files are not picking up its content types. Every file (.xml), when uploaded, its content type is "Document" which is the default content type. Earlier it used to pickup the correct content types. What could be wrong?

Internet Explorer problems downloading files from IIS 6 - Response.AddHeader("content-disposition",

I'm retrieving a file from my DB, storing in a Byte[] variable. In my local development environment, Visual Studio 2008, the file download works great in all browsers (IE, Firefox, and Chrome). But, when running on external IIS 6.0 web server, IE 7 and IE 8 browsers will not properly download files: the indicated file name seems to default to my ASPX page "[template].aspx" , not the file name that I specify in the Response.AddHeader(...).  FIREFOX and CHROME download all files, all MIME types JUST FINE with the correct file name. This problem occurs only in IE? (Several clients all tested with same results.) Is there a disconnect between IE and IIS 6.0 in how the response headers are interpreted? Is there another header attribute needed for IE?My code:    Response.Clear();    Response.ClearHeaders();    Response.Buffer = true;    Response.ContentType = f.MimeType;    Response.AddHeader("content-disposition", "attachment; filename=\"" + f.Name + "." + f.Extension+"\"");    Response.Charset = "";    Response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.NoCache);    Response.BinaryWrite(f.File);    Response.End();Thanks.

Using Resource files in SSRS

Static and Dynamic Resources with Brush and Resource Dictionary

Hi, We're using a huge resource dicionary with all the styles and templates for our controls. Some of these are the images that we use for some buttons and icons in the application. As far as I know, Static and Dynamic resources have nothing to do with the ResourceDictionary and The Brush, i could use any of them, if i need the resource to load only when needed i could use dynamic and if i want it to load on initialization time i should use Static. But everytime i try to use a static resource to define a Fill of a rectangle my application crashes on initialization time (when it exectues the InitializeComponents). The resource i'm using is a DrawingBrush that is declared on my resource dictionary and the only way i could make it works is defining it as DynamicResource. What is the limitation? Its realy impossible to define a static resource on a fill property, and if its realy impossible, why?

helpers and resource files

Hihaven't found this in the search so here it goes:i have resource files for localization, which are working great, the only thing i couldn't get working is this- i have an HTML helper to get the path for the css file:<link href="<%= AppHelper.CSSUrl("Site.css") %>" rel="stylesheet" />the question is how do i replace the "Site.css" with the resource?just putting the call for the resource like in other places gives and error.thanks

Setup Error - Failed to load resources from resource file

I tried to install The Lord of the Rings Online, but it always gives me the message (translated in english) that i need to install Net Framwork v1.1.4322. "ok, that's no problem" i thought, but every time i try to install Net Framework (any version) there are errors when trying to install it. With the 1.1 setup, it tells me "Setup Error - Failed to load resources from resource file", the 2.0 setup tells me that it is already installed (o.O?) but i can't see it in the "uninstall programs" list and the 3.0 and 3.5 just won't start. Nothing happens. I tried to install Net framework 4.0 beta which works fine but LotRO keeps telling me the same error message (i think because version 1.1 isn't included in higher versions)I'm running Windows 7 32 bit Ultimate: 2GB Ram, Intel Core duo e6750, GeForce 8800 gts (512 mb)Please help me :)

Sharepoint 2010 "Some content or files on this webpage require a program that you don't have instal

This may be a DNS question.

New SP 2010 install, single server lab environment.
I can create and access site collections under the first web application SP2010 (Sharepoint 80, http://sp2010)

I have created another web application, different database, different port (777), and given it a different URL (test.otherdomain.com:777)
I have created a corresponging site collection (default team site).
Opened port 777 TCP incoming and outgoing in the windows firewall
Created a host (A record) in my DNS test.otherdomain.com 192.168.168.5 (IP of the sharepoint server which is really called SP2010.mydomain.com)

nslookup returns the correct IP address, but when I type test.otherdomain.com:777 into a browser window I get
"Some content or files on this webpage require a program that you don't have installed" both from another machine on the network and on the Sharepoint server.
