EF - How to change database used by model

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 16, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net
I created an Entity Frameworks model (.edmx). Now, I want to change the database that my model is using. How do I do that? Just change the connection string in the .edmx Properties, or is there more that is required?

Entity Data Model and database view returning the same columns as there are in a table

When adding a stored procedure into the Entity Data Model I can select whether the procedure returns a scalar, a (new) complex type or one of the entity types I already defined.

How do I do something similar for a view?

I mean assuming I have a view like this

CREATE VIEW FilteredFoos as SELECT Foo.* FROM Foo join ... WHERE ...

(that is a view that implements some involved filtering, but returns all columns from one table) how do I add it to the project so that I can use the entity set, but get the Foo objects, not some new FilteredFoo objects.

var foos = myDB.FilteredFoos.Include("Bar").ToList();

foreach (Foo foo in foos) { ...

Change database fields automatically according to date

Hi, I'm currently developing a software application for my client. Part of the project is to keep track of his stock's shipping status. The client must insert the stock's pick-up date, expected time of departure (ETD) and expected time of arrival (ETA). The stocks will be called out using Grid View and the status, being one of the keys of the database, will be shown. Before the current date reaches pick-up date, the status must show "in warehouse", and after the current date reaches pick-up date and is before ETD, status must show that its "on the way to the port", and after ETD and before ETA, "in freight", and finally after ETA, "arrived". What datatype should I use for the database and where should I program it so that it changes automatically accordingly ?

Change Database and Log Properties

Hello, I have the following T-SQL code when creating a database: create database DBFA on primary ( name = 'DBFA_Data', filename = 'DBFA_Data.mdf', size = 40MB, maxsize = 2GB, filegrowth = 20MB ), log on ( name = 'DBFA_Log', filename = 'DBFA_Log.ldf', size = 20MB, maxsize = 200MB, filegrowth = 10MB ) This is working fine when creating a new database. But how can I define this properties but on a existing database? Thanks, Miguel

Managing TypedDataSets when there is a change in backend Table / Stored Procedure / Database schema

Hi All, I am just curious to know if there is any easier way to synchronize the TypedDataSets with the chages made to backend Table / Stored Procedure schema.  I use Typed DataSets in my project extensively and I found them very useful and easier to code, but difficult to maintain  The difficuly I have always faced is whenever there is a change in a backend database table structure or stored procedure that is linked to any of the Typed DataSet in our project requires to recreate whole DataSet again by scrapping the old one. The backend changes will not be reflected unless and untill you recreate the whole stuff again. Is there any easier way to synchronize those typed datasets with the changes made to backend database schema or any other workaround that will not required to recreate the whole DataSet again.Hope above question makes sense. Any ideas.

Database Switched to Simple Recovery Model

Hi there,

We came across a situation where the transaction log was full and we extended the disk that holds the transaction log. What happened after that is the log truncated and we noticed the recovery model of the database switched from FULL to SIMPLE. Does anyone come across this behaviour?

Thanks in advance.

Cannot change the collation sequence of a Database in SQL Server 2008 R2

I tried two steps below separately: restricted user ran for 30 minutes then I stopped the execution; They obviously could not run simultaneously. I only want to operate at the database and not the server level. Our other key db is already in the desired collation. We'd like to have equijoins work on tables with the same collation sequences, and not have to use ETL or individual ALTERs for each table involved.

Second point: is CP1 below a 2000 only collation? That appears to be a patently false assumption in another forum posting. It appears to be a valid 2008 R2 collation is the point.

COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS ;

sql server will not start - Database 'model' cannot be opened

I just ran into this problem.  I've seen other posts and have ran the net start MSSQL$MYDBNAME /c /m /T3600 command to which is responds service is starting and service was started successfully.

However when I run sqlcmd -e it doesn't work.  I get a Named Pipes Provider: error.  I'm on the actual server where this instance has been installed.  I don't think I need named_pipes as we use tcpip.

If I look in services it still shows the service as down.

This is SQL Server 2008 R2 on Windows Data Center 2008 R2.

Any tips?

How do I change application database from ASPNETDB.mdf to my own

I am using Visual Studio 2008 Express.

I did this simple test:

I created a new Web project with a simple page that has a Log In. There were no databases in App_Data.

I used the configuration tool to create a Role and User.

I refreshed the project folder and behold AspNetDB.mdf has appeared in the App_Data folder.

I have checked the Web.Config file and there is NO Connection string to this database.

So how do I move the Roles/Users application data storage away from AspNetDB.mdf to my own database ??!!

Populate entity data model from database

I've been using entity data models for quite a few sections of my website and find it really good for saving things to the database.

After searching for a while, I can't seem to find a good way to populate a new instance with data from a database other than using a data reader. E.G:

MyClass.myID = reader("myID")

Am I missing something?
