Simple ASP.NET SOAP request to return string

I have a requirement to build a simple ASP.NET web page which sends some parameters to a web service, and then displays the string which was returned.

I'm a complete .NET newby and the only examples I can find seem really really complex.  I just need something mega simple, but which an handle parameters being sent to the web service.  Can anyone point me in the direction of a simple bit of C# which will do this with no frills or fuss?

Any help much appreciated, thanks!

Large string (.4gb) crashes simple C# vista/windows 7 when complied for any CPU

I have a program that converts csv files into XML files, this process runs on its own machine which has plenty (6gb) of ram. Part of the process is to read the entire contents of the CSV file into RAM. Typically the CSV files are no more then 20-40kb in size.

A new file type has been added to the system and it is about half a gig in size. Now I know there are better ways to handle this file, and I've already addressed that. I just wanted to give some background on HOW I found the problem.

If you create a new c# console app (vs2008 or vs2010) and paste in the code below on a 64bit Vista or Windows 7 pc, You may crash (total lock up) your PC. If you specify the processor to be x86 it runs fine...

Can someone explain this behaviour? I've tried three separate dev machines with the same results, but have no more to try.

Please take care, as the only way I have found to recover from this is to power off....

@"...\..." and "...\\.." backslash string handling not working

I have a string with a directory path C:\ABC\DEFG\ETC.   But string directorypath = @"C:\ABC\DEFG\ETC" at run time is @"C:\\ABC\\DEFG\\ETC.  And string  directorypath = "C:\\ABC\\DEFG\\ETC" is also at run time C:\\ABC\\DEFG\\ETC.  I have googled around but I can't find a solution.  Is it because I am using English regional and keyboard settings perhaps?

Creating a Simple Class in C#

The second article in the C# Object-Oriented Programming tutorial describes how classes are created in C# and how behaviour, in the form of publicly visible and private, hidden methods can be added. This demonstrates some of the uses of encapsulation

A Simple and Extensible Radio Button Style GridView

The GridView is one of the significant controls in ASP.NET 2.0 and later versions. No doubt it reduces a lot of work time. However, customizing the GridView control is not an easy task. For example, it's hard to add a radio button column to the GridView. This article demonstrates the reason why a radio button column cannot act as normal and how to create a simple and extensible radio button GridView.

Silverlight Simple Animation

Silverlight has several built in techniques for animating controls. Many of these technologies are particularly useful for creating simple animations meant to decorate a web page with eye catching movement that draws the reader's attention. In this post I will skip over these decorative technologies, and instead show how to create a simple animation using a technique similar to those used in many games.

SQL Connection String

We can learn or know how can we connect the database from our .net. This will help for freshers or .NET beginners!

Built-in Functions - String Functions

String functions let you extract various portions of character strings, change the case of strings, concatenate and reverse strings and perform many other types of manipulations. All built-in string functions are deterministic with the exception of CHARINDEX and PATINDEX

abstract away the source of the connection string using a class with a static property.

ASP.NET provides a configuration system we can use to keep our applications flexible at runtime. In this article we will examine some tips and best practices for using the configuration system for the best results.

The element of a web.config file is a place to store connection strings, server names, file paths, and other miscellaneous settings needed by an application to perform work. The items inside appSettings are items that need to be configurable depending upon the environment, for instance, any database connection strings will change as you move your application from a testing and staging server into production.

Let's abstract away the source of the connection string using a class with a static property.

I thought this would be simple... Trying to create a login does an ajax check before submit

I have the standard .net login control that is working.  (Still learning .net after 15yrs of classic)

What I want to do is OnButtonClick run a javascript function (to do an ajax call to the db to check if login is valid or not) and if it returns true, then submit the form normally, else don't submit. The piece that I can't figure out, is how to correctly override the default click even to hit my JS routine and then submit the form properly afterwards.

Thanks ahead of time

connection string question from a newbie

when publishing  in the webmatrix dialogue it asks for "destination connection string" for my "database.mdf"

I was not sure what it was so I pasted this from my web.config file :

Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|\database.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True

it all published ok, but wont run, so I guess it has somthing to do with this connection string or some kind of configuration issue.

My question is this, What should go in the field for "Destination connection string"
