Please Help Installing SQL Management Studio (not Express) w/ local SQL Server Express

I have recently formatted my hard drive and over the past few days I've been reloading my software.  I have installed on my machine SQL Server Express 2005 SP3.  I prefer to have SQL Express running on my development machine because that is what my customers primarily use.  I also have a full MSDN license, and I would need to install SQL Management Studio 2005.  However, when I download the SQL Server 2005 Developer ISO from MSDN, and run the setup file I get an error message that states: Installation of Microsoft SQL Server Native Client failed because a higher version already exists on the machine.  To proceed, uninstall the higher version and then run Microsoft SQL Server Native Client Setup. I would assume the problem is that the copy of SQL Server - Dev Edition that is available through my MSDN subscription is using an earlier version of SQL Server 2005 (most likely the version prior to SP1.)  I would just unistall SQL Server Express 2005 SP3 and reinstall it with out any service pack updates.  The problem is that I also see within my Add or Remove Programs list  four SQL Server 2008 R2 entries, that I believe were installed when I installed Visual Studio Pro 2010 (they are, Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Data-Tier Application Framework, Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Data-Tier Application Project, Microsoft SQL Server 20

Our Server configuration is windows 2008 R2 with 32 bit prcessor.

Before that i had install the same but SQL Server Management Studio icon is not showing, so I unstalled SQL and then trying to fresh installation.

Sql Server Management Studio Express 2005 keeps crashing

Apologies if this is not the right forum for my topic. I was wondering if anyone could help me with a problem I'm having with SSMSEE. Starting yesterday Management Studio Express kept on crashing whenever I tried to use it. When I first start it, everything looks fine but after opening a new query window the interface starts acting funny like some of the icons disappear and white space starts appearing on parts of the window or a rolling bar graphic appears at the top of window . When I try to run a query on the database I'm connected to the program crashes and the send error report dialog box appears. I've tried debugging the problem using visual studio but all I have is an error message:

An unhandled exception of type 'System.ArgumentException' occurred in Unknown Module.

Additional information: Parameter is not valid.

I've checked the event viewer and the application error records for this issue read:

EventType clr20r3, P1 ssmsee.exe, P2 2005.90.2047.0, P3 443f5ccf, P4 system.drawing, P5, P6 4333aeaf, P7 17e, P8 20, P9 system.argumentexception, P10 NIL.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Management Studio but the problem still persists. I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling .NET Framework 2.0 and it didn't help. I have googled for people who have encount

installing SQL Server 2005 on Windows 7 with Visual Studio 2010 already installed

Last year I had Vista on machine with Visual Studio 2008 and SQL Server 2005 running fine. Last week I decided to wipe the hard disk, install Windows 7 and make the move to Visual Studio 2010. I still need SQL Server 2005 to be able to test code for clients using this.

Anyway, Visual Studio 2010 Professional went on OK. This installed SQL Server 2008 Epxress.

I then try to install SQL Server 2005. I know that there is a compatibility problem, so following advice from other sources, I want to install it without running the server, then install SQL Server 2005 SP3. Then I should be up and running.

The problem is that even though I make sure the 'Start SQL Server' check box is UNchecked, part way through the installation it throws up an error saying it can't start the server and this part of the installation is unrolled.

I've tried running 'setup.exe SKUUPGRAGE=1' which gets rid of the only warning I was getting up to this point, but the setup seems to insist on running the server even though I tell it not to. So I don't get a chance to run SP3 on it.

I wonder if the problem is that SQL Server 2008 Epxress is already installed but can't see an easy way of uninstalling it. It doesn't appear as an uninstall option using the Visual Studio 2010 disk and if I look at uninstall programs I get the f

How to connect to local instance of SQL Server 2008 Management Studio Express ?

I just installed SQL Server 2008 Management studio Express on my Vista machine.

Having problems installing/setting up SQL Server 2008 Express/R2 for ASP.NET user management on deve

I'm a bit new to installing and configuring, well, just about anything regarding databases, so please bear with me. I'm currently building a couple of ASP.NET MVC 2 sites.  I'm following along with the MVCMusicStore tutorial, and am trying to set up user management using ASP.NET's configuration tool.  The problem is that ASP.NET can't 'see' the database. I have SQL Server 2008 installed on my laptop.  It's the version which is available on the Web Platform Installer (I believe it's Express).  When I try running the aspnet_sqlreg.exe program to set up my user management database, it can't tell that I'm running any version of SQL Server at all.  I get an exception about 'named pipes', and some other things I don't understand at the moment. Obviously, this is all a bit over my head.  Is there an idiot proof guide or tutorial available that describes, step-by-step, how to: 1. Install SQL Server 2008 on a development PC 2. How to configure it to be used by Visual Studio 2010 Professional 3. How to properly upload/modify the db on the production server with what's on the development PC Essentially, all the things that the ASP.NET tutorials gloss over.  Any suggestions, links to documentation, or other nudges in the right direction would be immensely appreciated.

SQL Server CE in Management studio express

Hello,I am trying to connect to sql server CE trough SQL Management studio express. But it seems like it only wants to connect to an SQL server express instance. Does SQL server CE needs to run as a server? because I can't seem to be able to just connect to a file. Does Anyone know how to connect to SQL CE?Thanks!Greetings,Mark

Can't connect to SQL 2005 Enterprise using Management Studio with Server Name (only (local) works

This is a test system, everything running locally & no domains. Win 2003 Ent. Server & SQL Server 2005 Enterprise. I can't log into SQL Server Management Studio using the server name & using either Windows Authentication or SQL login. If I change the name of the server in the drop-down list to "(local)", I connect just fine (both Windows & SQL security modes). Shared Memory, Named Pipes & TCP/IP enabled in both server & client. Remote connections allowed. I have IP adresses (both & external IP) in my hosts file pointing to the server name. Does SQL require a DNS server? This wouldn't be a problem except for the fact that I can't install SQL 2005 SP3 due to authentication failure since there's no way to enter (local) as the server name. SQL tools (management studio, SP install) seem to see the SQL server running but won't authenticate the user through any means other than setting server name to (local). This is driving me crazy!!!

SQL Server 2008 Management Studio - Summary Windows.

I am using SQL Server 2008 (10.0.1600), now came across an issue to display Summary Windows but unfortunately found that F7 (Keyboard shortcut to display summary window) is not working and even Summary windows is not available in View Menu of SQL Server Management Studio. Maybe it’s a minor issue but I failed to find solution. Thanks (in advance) for the help.

Error Attaching .mdf in SQL Server Management Studio Express

I originally had a database setup using SQL Server 2005 Express that was being accessed by a Point-of-Sale client. I would connect to the server using SQL Server Management Studio and everything worked fine. I was out of the office and someone using my machine uninstalled Management Studio. I reinstalled and tried to attach the .mdf file to the database. However I keep receiving this error: TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express ------------------------------ Attach database failed for Server 'FRONTDESK-PC\SQLEXPRESS'.  (Microsoft.SqlServer.Express.Smo) For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&ProdVer=9.00.2047.00&EvtSrc=Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.ExceptionTemplates.FailedOperationExceptionText&EvtID=Attach+database+Server&LinkId=20476 ------------------------------ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch.
