SQL Server on a network workstation

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 16, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I recently installed Microsoft Expression Studio 2 and Visual Studio 2008 on my workstation for web development.  After the instalation my Network Server started displaying error messages that there were duplicate IP addresses being assigned. It was as though there was another server on the system trying to hand out IP adresses.  I disabled the SQL srvices on the workstation with MS config and the Server stopped getting erors.  Any ideas on how to run SQL on my workstation would be helpful.  If this can't be done, can I uninstall SQL from the workstation and still use the Expression Studio 2 package? Thanks :-)

SQL Server Network Interfaces Error 26 - while failing over SQL Server 2008 R2

Before I explain the issue I am facing, I would like to say that I did read the post at  http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sql_protocols/archive/2007/05/13/sql-network-interfaces-error-26-error-locating-server-instance-specified.aspx but in my case the problem is transient (lasts for approximately two minutes after a failover) so items 1-3 in the list of troubleshooting steps do not seem to make sense. As to 4 and 5, the named instances use non-default ports (2433 and 3433 respectively), so I do not know how to tailor the PortQry command for that. I tried  portqry.exe -n ServerA,2433-p UDP -e 1434 and  portqry.exe -n ServerA,2433 -p UDP -e 2434 and it failed both times with a "Failed to resolve name to IP address" while the server was up and serving database requests The same thing happened when I tried it with the failover server as well. ***The issue I am facing*** I am using Enterprise Library 4.1 to connect to a SQL Server 2008 R2 database with a mirror. My connection string itself is as below (with dummy values for all fields): "Data Source=ServerA;Failover Partner=ServerB;Initial Catalog=DBName;User ID=uid;Password=pwd;Connect Timeout=5" Sample .NET code is as below (with modifications to instantiate all variables locally to provide context): SqlDatabase db = new SqlDatabase(ConnectionString); SqlConnection cn = (SqlConnection)db

How to setup port forwarding for SharePoint server on home network

I have a SharePoint 2010 server running on my home network.  I want to be able to access the server from the internet and edit pages, create sites etc.  The web applications is running on a specific port (1234) not port 80. I've configured my router to forward port 1234 to the server's IP address and I can access the site fine from the internet using the routers IP address and adding the port number.  Viewing the site works fine but the problem is when I try to access a page in the _layouts folder for any of the sub sites I get a "File not found" error.  Also, if I go to a sub site and create a new site (no _layouts page required) it works but the new site is created directly under the root and not the sub site. It seems that the port forwarding from the router is messing up the context for the _layouts folder.  Is there any way around this? Thanks.

SQL Server 2008 Installtion Error : A network error ... SQLE86D.tmp.msi

local pipes vs. network pipes (to connect to SQL Server)

Choosing a Network Protocol (SQL Server 2008 R2) tells: "It is also important to clarify if you are talking about local pipes or network pipes. If the server application is running locally on the computer that is running an instance of SQL Server, the local Named Pipes protocol is an option. Local named pipes runs in kernel mode and is very fast" Well, it is not me who is talking in cited article, I believe so. Should it be understood that "If the server application is running locally on the computer that is running an instance of SQL Server" and configuring/choosing Named Pipes mean running "local Named Pipes"?

MSDTC - TransactionOption "Required" works from my XP Workstation but not from our 2008 Server

I have a SSIS package (2008) that has a sequence container with TransactionOption Required.  This is needed to ensure that multiple tasks commit or fail together.  It also has a custom transformation that establishes (acquires) connection objects. This package works great when run from my local XP workstation.  I can see the distributed transaction starting and committing in the SSIS output. The problem is that when I roll this package out to the server, it fails to acquire the connection, throwing an error at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Wrapper.IDTSConnectinoMAnager100.AcquireConnection(Object pTransaction).  I've verified that the security settings of MSDTC on this server are consistent....they are definitely set to allow inbound and outbound. Are there any issues with MSDTC on Windows Server 2008?  Is it possible that I'm getting an issue because my workstation is 32 bit but the server is 64 bit? Thanks -Mark

Cannot connect to SQL Server 2005 locally by Windows Authentication, but network connection is succe

Cannot connect to SQL Server 2005 locally by Windows Authentication DOMAIN \ myname. But network connection is successful.   But SQL Server Logins contain   BUILTIN \ Administrators, and                                                    BUILTIN \  Administrators contain DOMAIN \ Domain Admins, and                                                    DOMAIN \ Domain Admins contain DOMAIN \ myname.   Creating SQL Server Login with DOMAIN \ myname entail successful local connection.   Removing SQL Server Login with DOMAIN \ myname and creating SQL Server Login with DOMAIN \ Domain Admins do NOT entail successful connection. Cannot connect!                                     &

RijndaelManaged works on workstation, not on server

I have a project that uses the RijndaelManaged class for encryption/decryption.  It works fine on my workstation (xp 32-bit), but when it gets deployed to Windows 20008 Server (64-bit), it gives the following error:

"Specified key is not a valid size for this algorithm."
