Unable to install SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services Service Pack 4 (KB2463332)

Rookie here. Using SQL for an eBay software program we have been running for two years. There were simple step by step instructions to install -- point being, I really dont understand this stuff.

Running Windows XP SP3.

Automatic Updates is trying to install the version shown in the Title of this message. It fails to install and gives me the error: SQL BPA command line has encountered a problem and needs to close.

I do not know where to access the error log. I will post if someone can tell me the correct one to find. In the following directory, C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\, there are directories for MSSQL.1, MSSQL.2 and MSSQL.3. Two of them show log directories with today's date.

Any and all help is very much appreciated.

Thank you!

SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 (KB955706) update is successful but repeats installin

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 (KB955706) (update 1 of 1) This update seems to be stuck in a loop of installing, each time it successfull installs acccording to automatic updates. Then says it requires installing again straight away. This has been happening for 10 days now. I have tried a manual update from the website rather than automatic updates, no change. Any ideas why? Have posted in Windows update which is where I think the problem lies but they have suggested I post here also.

Which SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack to Install?

I have Windows 2008 Small Business Server Standard Edition.  When I scan for updates I get two different SQL service packs showing up, with the same KB955706 number.  I'm wondering which I should install, or if both, what order to install them in?  The first one is labeled: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 The second one is labeled: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services Service Pack 3 For applications, I have Blackbaud The Financial Edge v7.78 (accounting package for clubs) installed that uses SQL Server 2005 Express Edition for its database engine.  The new upgrade for this software requires SP3 which is why I need to know which service pack to install.  Also, please let me know if there are any tricks to getting the service packs installed on 2008 SBS Standard Edition.  I know sometimes registry settings need to be changed for SQL service packs to be installed properly. Thank you for your help.

Hi could someone please help me. Im running the following software: SQL 2008 Express R2 with advanced services Visual Studios 2010 Ultimate   I am trying to using Sql in Visual studios to use full text indexing but I am attaching a database that already exists. My problem is that I can use the full text indexing? I had it working once but then when i tried to FREETEXT search through my table it said that I didn't have an index on that table when I know I do cause I went to make sure. I think that perhaps its referencing the wrong database because I cant seem to add the database into my project? SQL Server 2005 Express Edition - GUI to set permissions on stored procedures

Hi there, I have SQL Serve 2005 Express Edition (Build 2600: Service Pack 3) installed; I also have the Management Console installed. My problem is that I cannot set execute permission, or any other type of permissions on my stored procedures through the GUI, as the Property menu item is missing from the right click menu. I read somewhere that this happens when you have SP1, but as I stated above I have got SP3 installed... Any help?   Regards, D.

Uable to successfully install SQL Server 2005 (Express Edition) Service Pack 3 (KB955706)

After repeated attempts, I am unable to install the MSSQL Server 2005 (Express Edition) Service Pack 3 (KB955706).  From Live Update, the installation initializes but then reports that it was unable to install.  The first couple of times I received Error Code 0x65B, but that doesn't come up any longer. I have ACT! Database version 2007 (9.0) and it is unable to access the database to open it because it uses the MSSQL??  Also, there used to be an MSSQL icon below in my system tray, but that no longer appears.  When I reboot it will be on briefly, but then goes away.. MS Customer Support has attempted to help (Case ID SRX1135612820) but now tell me that this is beyond their expertise.  They had me try to reload MMSQL 2005 but no change. Please help! Thanks!!  Terry

Upgrade SQL 2005 standard Runtime edition to SQL 2005 standard edition full version

We have a MS SQL 2005 standard edition runtime license. The SQL Server Runtime license is a license that lets an independent software vendor (ISV) embed the complete SQL Server code into a solution for use only by the ISV application. The customers of the ISV cannot use this SQL Server product to run other applications or to develop new applications, databases, or tables. Now we want to add a new database to the SQL. We know that we have to buy a full version of SQL 2008 standard edition. But the question is: How can we add a new database to the existing SQL. Do we have to uninstall SQL runtime license and install the full version and migrate the existing databse or can we change the key and add new databases to the SQL server?

Your upgrade is blocked.. when adding components to SQL 2005 Standard Edition SP1

Name: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Tools Hello, I am having a problem when trying to add the Client Components to an existing installation of SQL 2005 Standard Edition SP1 running on Windows 2003 Standard. The server was originally built with SQL 2005 Standard Edition and had SP1 installed at a later date. I am using the CD that SQL was originally installed with which is not a service packed copy of SQL. The reason given when clicking the details button is as follows: Reason: Your upgrade is blocked. For more information about upgrade support, see the "Version and Edition Upgrades" and "Hardware and Software Requirements" topics in SQL Server 2005 Setup Help or SQL Server 2005 Books Online. Build version check: Your upgrade is blocked because the existing component is a later version than the version you are trying to upgrade to. To modify an existing SQL Server component, go to Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel, select the component you would like to modify, and then click Change/Remove. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards Steve

SQL Server 2005 Express (Advanced) warning msg. Requires 32-.bit ASP.net

Received the following warning error message while installing SQL Express Advanced. Now when I log onto Management Studio I was expecting to see Reporting Services but only have the database enginge and SQL Compact Edition. Do I need to download and install the 32-bit ASP.NET?  I'm on Windows 7 64-bit ASP.Net is Registered. Required 32-bit ASP.Net to install Microsoft Reporting Services 2005(32-bit).

accidentally installed 2005 express edition over the full edition

I accidentally chose to install Express when I was installing Visual Studio 2008. Now when Windows Update attempts to update Express Edition to SP3, I get a error code 7367. Following the link to the troubleshooting section doesn't help. I suspect Express was only partially installed, and so Update fails. Any ideas how to rectify this? Thanks, Colin

SQL 2008 eval expired, ran maintenance Edition upgrade but still can't start services

We unknowingly installed a MSDN evaluation copy of SQL 2008 on a production server.  The evaluation period expired and we're no longer able to access the database.  We have purchased SQL 2008 and have run the Maintenence Edition Upgrade, it completed successfully but the SQL services will not start, event logs for the various SQL services reference 'evaluation period has expired'.  We have modified the CommonFiles DWORD value to 3 in the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\100\ConfiguratioState key as noted in other posts and tried rerunning the the upgrade. We've also tried running the install on just the shared tools as referenced on another post, the install ran successfully but still not allowing the SQL services to start.

We don't want to lose our database if at all possible.  Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Upgrade from SQL Server 9.0.2047 (Express 2005 SP1 I believe) to SP3

I am running the version of SQL I listed in the title and like I said, I believe it is SQL Express 2005 SP1 and I just want to upgrade to SP3.  I tried installing it via Microsoft Update, but that failed without giving me any detail as to why.  When I try to run the SQL Exp 2005 SP3 installer (SQLEXPR.EXE) it just acts like it is going to install a new instance of it.

I saw a post about an unattended upgrade, but frankly I'm not very familiar with that and not really comfortable with doing it.  Is there not an installer I can run that will just upgrade to SP3?

Thanks to anyone who can provide some assistance for me, I appreciate it.

Developing Windows Services using Express Edition of C#

I've been trying to create a windows service using the express edition of C#. Unfortunately, there are no in-built templates for doing this (like in Pro, and all of the other editions).

Is there a way to download the templates? Or is it possible to program the service without using the helpers in the IDE. For example, I have managed to create a service by referencing the relevant DLL and inheriting the correct class, but I cannot create the installer class.

Has anyone else tried to create a service without using the IDE?

Also, just to clarify here, I do mean Windows Services and not webservices.
