Cannot uninstall SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer from Vista 32 bit SP2

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 16, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
Hi, I installed SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer and I now wish to go back to an earlier configuration (2008) but I cannot uninstall it. I do have Visual Studio 2008 and 2010 installed (with their instance of SQLEXPRESS), is this blocking the total removal of SQL Server 2008 or is their another issue here? The uninstall reports that all worked fine. Thanks for your help, Bex

SQL Server 2008 Uninstall

I am running SQL Server 2008 on VISTA. I am having problems with SSIS components tha need to run in 32-bit.  It was recommended to unistall 2008 and re-install 2005.  However, trying to uninstall 2008 is causing my machine to freeze half-way through the process.  Before I tried to unistall I tried to repair and it also caused my screen to freeze (I issued a hard-shut down of my machine).  Now I am not sure what is happending.  How can I fix this?

Error with Visual Web Developer 2008 Express and MS SQL 2005 Express in Vista

I have created a database in SQL 2005 Express and am trying to connect to it in  Visual Web Developer 2008 Express. When I try to connect to a database and click on the Test Connection button, I get that the test connection succeded. However, when I click on OK, I get the following message:     Unable to add data connection.     Could not load file or assembly     Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Sdk.Sfc, Version=,     Culture=Neutral, PublicKeyToken='89845dcd8080cc91', or one of its     dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. I have turned on the IIS 7.0 functionality and am still recieving this error message. Please help. Thanks.

Testing setup of SQL Server 2008 R2 developer

The "Windows Package Manager" has the error "Operation failed with 0x80070643" and "Fatal error during installation." I have tried a few basic approaches to the installation problem, including downloading the ISO image to a different computer.  I have burned the ISO image onto four different DVDs using different media and two computers but only succeeded in verifying the burned media is Ok.  I have verified the SHA1 key with the two installation ISO images that were downloaded.  I have tried repairing the installation, but that generated a different kind of error message, "Error 1316.A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file E:\1033_ENU_LP\x64\setup\SSCERuntime_x86-enu.msi".  And then there is the "SQL Server 2008 R2 Setup has stopped working" message indicating "Windows is checking for a solution to the problem...". How fatal are the errors being encountered?  Is everything Ok?  How can I test that SQL Server 2008 R2 is fully functional?  T.69.72.

SQL Server 2008 Installation / Uninstall failed: Error 1603

Hello! I've been trying to install the SQL Server 2008 CTP 5.0 on a Windows Server 2008. The installation failed and left the shared components installed but the database engine was missing. So I tried to roll back the installation and stumbled upon the problem again. Now I can't install or uninstall any SQL Server (I tried 2005 as well) without these results. This is the file *Sql_Cpu32_1_ComponentUpdateSetup.log === Verbose logging started: 01.01.2001  20:30:03  Build type: SHIP UNICODE 4.00.6001.00  Calling process: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\setup100.exe ===MSI (c) (30:CC) [20:30:03:671]: Resetting cached policy valuesMSI (c) (30:CC) [20:30:03:671]: Machine policy value 'Debug' is 0MSI (c) (30:CC) [20:30:03:671]: ******* RunEngine:           ******* Product: {8151C56C-5426-481C-96AF-F221FE1A10F2}           ******* Action:            ******* CommandLine: **********MSI (c) (30:CC) [20:30:03:687]: Client-side and UI is none or basic: Running entire install on the server.MSI (c) (30:CC) [20:30:03:687]: Grabbed execution mutex.MSI (c) (30:CC) [20:30:04:062]: Cloaking enabled.MSI (c) (30:CC) [20:30:04:062]: Attempting to enable all disabled privileges before calling Install on ServerMSI (c) (30:CC) [20:30:04:125]: Incrementing counter to disable shutdown. Cannont connect to New Installation of SQL SERVER 2008 from New Vista Ultimate machine(s)

I have a new SQL Server 2008 Development edition installation on a Newly setup Server running Windows Server 2008 Enterprise edition.  The server is mainly a file server and is not setup as a domain controller.  Since my test environment is fairly basic (server and two Vista Ultimate machines) I thought the connection through data sources on the client machines would be straight forward.  But it isn't working.  I can see the server, ping the server, etc. but when I try and connect the client through a system DNS it will not connect using SQL Server authentication using a loginId.  (since it isn't on a domain, I can't use Windows NT Authentication).   The error is SQL Error 10060 and SQL Error 17.  (connection failed and SQL Server does not exist or access denied)  Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated. Tried everything, cannot install SQL Server 2008 Developer on Windows 7 Professional

I have a legal, purchased copy of Windows 7 on my X86 computer. I have downloaded through my university a copy of SQL Server 2008 (through MSDNAA). I have tried every single post for four days to no avail to get this installed, and it is crucial for my SQL class (obviously).

Everything I do leads to ".NET Framework 3.5 SP1 installation failed. .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 must be installed."
To my understanding, .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 is installed by default in Windows 7. This is confirmed by the lack of installer on Microsoft websites for Windows 7, the ability to install other software such as Google Chrome that requires .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, and the availability of .NET Framework 3.5.1 in the Windows Programs and Features.

I have tried installing SQL Server 2008 SP1, which installed successfully, as recommended by Microsoft and then running the setup program using the /PCUSource=c:\SP1 method to have it recognize the SP1, to no avail.

I made sure that all features of .NET Framework 3.5.1 were enabled in Windows Programs and Features.

Windows 7 is completely up to date.

I have tried installing Visual Studio 2008 (which successfully installed), but SQL Server would not install afterwards.
