Metadata: Create a Database Schema Repository with Meta Data Services in SQL Server 2000

SQL Server 2000 Meta Data Services is a repository technology that stores and manages metadata for SQL Server. Instead of building database schemas over and over, Meta Data Services allows you to freeze an entire schema for use in other projects. You can also use these schemas for training, testing, or debugging. In this article, the authors will review the various components of Meta Data Services and show how it can be programmed using a Visual Basic client, XML, and XSLT. They will also show you how to manage and manipulate your metadata by generating a simple database schema using a SQL Server repository.

System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Bulk load data was expected but not sent

Hi everyone We've had this error twice now from our C# code. Nothing is changing the columns, but I've noticed though that it appears to happen when two threads are attempting to bulk insert into the same table, generally millions of rows. The docs say that SqlBulkCopy.WriteToServer is not guaranteed to be thread-safe, but is this the problem here? It feels like it. I've seen some posts where people appeared to have experienced problems in similar circumstances (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/sqldatabaseengine/thread/85d51484-6381-46bc-bcce-63b58b362d2d). There is no identity column just a non-unique clustered index that is (spid) process keyed to each thread. Do I need to synchronise access to the table for WriteToServer - is this a known problem? Many thanks Reg --- System.Data.SqlClient. create procedure [User_Name].sp_myprocedure. Error since I use dbo schema

I am developing with VS2010. When I generate a store procedure (DATASET>RIGHT CLICK ADD>SELECT>NEW STORE PROCEDURE) for a data table of a dataset from VS2010, the enviroment generates this: IF EXISTS (SELECT * FROM sysobjects WHERE name = 'SelectQuery' AND user_name(uid) = 'DOMAIN\USER-LOGIN')  DROP PROCEDURE [DOMAIN\USER-LOGIN'].SelectQuery GO CREATE PROCEDURE [DOMAIN\USER-LOGIN'].SelectQuery AS  SET NOCOUNT ON; SELECT contract_id, product_id, contract_description FROM dbo.TContracts GO The creation of the procedure ends with erros since my schema is dbo. So far, I work around copying and pasting the store procedure changing the schema and starting again from the beginning: DATASET>RIGHT CLICK ADD>SELECT>FROM EXISTING STORE PROCEDURE. Is there any way to configure VS2100 to generate the scripts avoinding to prefix the supposed schema of my user. Many thanks.

The external column "CLIENT" (2639) has no mapping to the XML schema

Hi, I am having validation errors when moving between test and production servers.  I have a package which is reading and XML file and loading the data into staging tables.  The XML source is configured to use a variable for the file name (which is getting populated through a foreach loop.  The default value points to a file that was on the production server when the package was created).  The XSD is stored on a network share.  This all looks fine in test.  When I deploy it to production there are no validation errors, but when I run it, I get errors about the first few columns in the schema complaining: "The external column "<Column Name>" (2639) has no mapping to the XML schema" If I open the package while pointing to the production server, I can double click the XML Source and clear the errors.  I can then redeploy it and the package will run without issue in production.  However, if I open it back up and the package is again pointing to the test server, these metadata errors come up again.  I have rebuilt this component and the XSD a dozen times, thinking that the component was corrupted, but nothing seems to help.  I even rebuilt the entire dataflow.  Any ideas on to make this transition from test to production more smooth?  Is there a more reliable way that I can configure t

bcp or bulk insert - create table

I saw another entry on this, however it went unanswered.  I'll try again and maybe there is newer information/functionality now and hopefully it will help both of us.

I intended to use bcp as one component of an archival process.  However, during a test to recreate or insert into a new table I do not see any switches or options to tell bcp to create the table if it doesn't exist.  Since the formtat file contains the column descriptors, I would have expected bcp to provide the create table functionality (rather than having to know the orignal table format and hardcoding the create table definition into the recover or reload process).  An I overlooking something?  Is there some new functionality using XML format files that would do this?
