*In need of Help on Remote SQL Access*

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 16, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
Hi to all, I'm not sure if this is directed to the correct audience but shall ask my question anyways. Around 7 years ago back when I was working for an I.T company, I worked along side a bloke who was a bit of a wiz kid when it came to programming in VB (back then it was in VB6). He created a program for the use by our CEO whenever he was out on business, to retrieve information or files remotely using this program. The program in question retrieved information and/or files through a SQL database where it was stored. As I saw some of the code and my basic understanding at the time, the program on one end encrypted the data and then stored it in the SQL database via SQL Server 2000 I do believe, whether it be information or files. The program to retrieve any of this was installed on the CEOs laptop where even if he were overseas he was able to gain access to this files in a secure manner as the program on his laptop decrypted and transferred any information or files onto his computer whenever he wanted to do so. The list of files would be contained within a listbox control. Obviously this would be done through remote access to the SQL server but I am unsure how this was done (code wise). I am just as unsure how this would be done via VB.NET and whether it is easier to do these days. My question is How would this be done? I have SQL Server Express 2008 setup on my current de

Using Remote Data Access with SQL Server CE 2.0

Microsoft SQL Server CE edition is the database server built by Microsoft to run on mobile devices. Besides being a standalone database for mobile applications, SQL Server CE also allows you to connect to your desktop SQL Server 2000 and perform remote data access and merge replication. In this article, you will learn how to build a .NET Compact Framework mobile application using Visual Studio .NET 2003 and how it can perform remote data access using SQL Server CE 2.0.

For more information on .NET Compact Framework, see my previous article, "Developing Pocket PC Apps with SQL Server CE."
Features of SQL Server CE 2.0

Figure 1 shows the main components in SQL Server CE and its relationship to SQL Server 2000 (on the desktop).

Accessing file on remote server

I need help to achieve the following.
I have integrated the Single Sign On to my webapplication. Service Provider(SP) is developing in .net platform and windows server.Identity Provider (IdP) is configured in apache and linux server.
For authentication I am redirecting the user to IdP and authenticate at IdP and return back to my .net website. So I have user's database in IdP as a db file user.db (see the apache configuration below) for authenticating user.

System.Messaging - Error accessing properties of remote private queues - "UnsupportedFormatNameExcep

I'm having some difficulty accessing private queues on a remote machine, but no trouble using remote public queues or private queues on a local machine. Calling: System.Messaging.MessageQueue.GetPrivateQueuesByMachine("machine"); ..succesfully returns the array of private queues on the remote machine.  However, trying to access nearly all of the properties on these MessageQueue objects returns: MessageQueueErrorCode: UnsupportedFormatNameOperation Message:"The specified format name does not support the requested operation. For example, a direct queue format name cannot be deleted." I have no trouble accessing queues created identically on the local machine using GetPrivateQueuesByMachine("."), plus accessing public queues using GetPublicQueuesByMachine("machine") also returns MessageQueue objects that are useable. The FormatName returned appears to be valid, as you would expect from queues retreived via GetPrivateQueuesByMachine().  e.g: FormatName:Direct=OS:machine\\private$\\example ..so I think the error message returned may be somewhat spurious. The permissions on the queues all appear to be set correctly.  I had even attempted allowing "Full Control" to "Everyone" on these queues as an experiment, with the same results. Any ideas for other things I might try? p.s. I am running Windows XP SP2, using .NET 2.

Remote access to SQL-Server 2008 R2 on Windows Server 2008 denied

Hello, after successful installation of SQLServer 2008 R2 and providing my account as a 'sysadmin' I failed to access the server from a management studio of a SQL-Server 2005 release installation. The TCP/IP access is enabled and the server is configured to allow access from remote connections.  The error message reads a follows: ' A network-related or instance-specific error occured while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify ... (Provider: Named Pipes Provider, error 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)(Microsoft SQL Server, Error:2)' Accessing the SQL-Server by the management studio from the local host works fine but trying to acces by command line using the '-E' parameter fails. Is there any additional configuration on the operation system level needed to open a SQL-Server 2008 instance to be selected by other members of  domain groups from the non-local host? Thank you for the answer

The SDF file is located at http://www.testings.com/software (example) The SDF is named TEST.sdf   Conn_TEST.ConnectionString = "Data Source = " &PAth & "TEST.sdf" & " ; Password =" & PWD & "" Basically what I need is a simple example to make the connection string! The site requires a USER and a PWD Don't know if what I need is that simple, sorry for that, maybe it's a little bit more complex. Thanks in advance! Gus    Gus

The remote server returned an error: (550) File unavailable (e.g., file not found, no access).

Hi.   I have read the other threads regarding this but they do not solve my problem. All i am trying to do is upload a file from the webserver onto another server via FTP. But i get the above error and am at my wits end as to why.   below is the code:   Dim fs As New FileStream("H:\Visual Studio 2005\Websites\Website1\testfile.txt", FileMode.Open) Dim filecontents(fs.Length) As Byte fs.Read(filecontents, 0, fs.Length)   Dim remotePath As String = "ftp://elonwactd.uk.ml.com/apps/files/IPBHVGTRADE/QA5/in/testfile.txt" Dim ftp As FtpWebRequest = FtpWebRequest.Create(remotePath) ftp.Credentials = New System.Net.NetworkCredential("user1", "passwd1") ftp.KeepAlive = False ftp.UseBinary = True   ' (have tried UploadFile as well instead of UploadFileWithUniqueName) ftp.Method = WebRequestMethods.Ftp.UploadFileWithUniqueName     fs.Close()   ftp.GetRequestStream.Write(filecontents, 0, filecontents.Length) ftp.GetRequestStream.Close() ftp.GetResponse.Close()     Below is the stack trace that i get. [WebException: The remote server returned an error: (550) File unavailable (e.g., file not found, no access).]   System.Net.FtpWebRequest.SyncRequestCallback(Object obj) +321   System.Net.FtpWebRequest.RequestCallback(Object obj) +19   System.Net.CommandStream.Abort(Exception e) +163   System.Net.FtpWebRequest.FinishRequestStage(RequestStage stage) +45

Accessing memory of a remote process (x64) from application (x86) - and the other way

Hi everyone, My program access a remote process, e.g. to get the text of ListViewItem. It uses ReadProcessMemory, WriteProcessMemory, SendMessage, LV_ITEM via PInvoke. Below is a little codesnippet. This doesnt work, when i compile for x86 and the remote process is x64 (or the other way). I know that is because the size of IntPtr - and so of the LV_ITEM-Structure - is different. Is there any way, to access x86 and x64 remote processes from the same application?  Is there any way to find out if the remote process is x86 or x64 and make my call's with a suitable LV-Item Structure? thanks Torsten Codesnippet: LV_ITEM lvitem = new LV_ITEM(); // Allocate memory in the remote process's address space string s = string.Empty; IntPtr pszTextMemory = VirtualAllocEx(hProcess,IntPtr.Zero,  1024, (int)(AllocationType.MEM_RESERVE|AllocationType.MEM_COMMIT), (int)(AccessProtectionType.PAGE_READWRITE)); lvitem.pszText = pszTextMemory; ... IntPtr pLVItemMemory = VirtualAllocEx(hProcess, IntPtr.Zero,  Marshal.SizeOf(lvitem), (int)(AllocationType.MEM_RESERVE|AllocationType.MEM_COMMIT), (int)(AccessProtectionType.PAGE_READWRITE)); IntPtr lvItemPtr = Marshal.AllocHGlobal(Marshal.SizeOf(lvitem)); Marshal.StructureToPtr(lvitem,lvItemPtr,false); WriteProcessMemory(hProcess, pLVItemMemory, ref lvitem, Marshal.SizeOf(lvitem), ref written); SendMessage(hListView, LVM_GETITEM

Not able to access Class methods when deployed on a remote server?

I have a web service project. In the project I have a class named "Piper"In testing the web service in localhost mode in the VS IDE, I can access membersof the class, such as my method "Proceed" and property "Comber" The problem I am having is that when the web service is deployed to the serverin staging, or the deployment server, I am not able to access any methods of my class. Onlythe properties. This is very strange? As they are both public and I can access them when I run the project in local host in the IDE. Does anyone know what the problem might be?Here is a simplified example of my class. Public Class Piper Public Sub Proceed() End Sub Public Property Comber() As Boolean  Get   Return True  End Get  Set(ByVal value As Boolean)       _comber = value  End SetEnd Property End Class

how to access to a remote SQL server database?

hi everybody, I'm really a beginner with database and I don't know how can I access by example with SQL server management studio (express or not) to a remote sql database which is based on a remote server through internet. When I start SQL server management studio express I can put "name of the server" and authentication but I really don't know what to put here. Do I need to put a remote IP address? Does it work like that? Can i access to a remote database with SQL server management studio or I need something else? What I want to do is to begin, access to this database, and then, I would like to copy a table from this database to a local SQL server. Any help will be really appreciated! Thanks

When I choose the "Not Be Made" WITH THE SAME USER ID & PASSWORD, I get the mapping error.
