Preventing the "This program might not have installed correctly" warning when (not) installing .NET

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 16, 2010    Points: 0   Category :.NET Framework
Hi all,I am trying to create an installer using Installshield 2009 Pro, which needs to include .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 (the full version or the web downloader, depending on the deployment method). I am using the built-in prerequisites and everything works fine on XP and Vista. However, on Windows7 the installation causes the "This program might not have installed correctly" warning to appear in installer versions that include the .NET Framework prerequisite; I need to prevent this.I understand that Windows7 already includes .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 (and that the .NET setup does not support Windows7), however I cannot find a way to prevent the prerequisite from attempting to install on that OS (the built-in checks seem not to prevent it, either). Either that, or the failure to install is what actually prompts the error message in the first place. So can anybody offer any guidance on how to prevent this warning on Windows7? So far the only choice I can think of is to have a separate installer for Windows7 that does not include the .NET prerequisite, however because it is a requirement for the CD version to include the full .NET installer rather than just the downloader, space is already at a premium. Thanks in advance.

Installing and Uninstalling Services

Installing and Uninstalling Services.Unlike most projects you create in Visual Studio .NET, Windows Service projects cannot be run directly from the development environment by pressing F5. This is because the service in the project must be installed before the project can run.

You can quickly install your service application by using a command line utility called InstallUtil.exe.

Installing both VS Pro 2008 and VWD2008

I work at an educational institution and in our computing labs we have Visual Studio Professional 2008 installed already. One of our academics has requested me to install Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition as they think it's easier for their beginner students to learn, but I've noticed it wants to install it in the same folder as our Visual Studio Professional install.

Can both be installed without the limited VWD interfering with the Professional version?

Installing a httpModule on IIS6

I am trying to install a httpModule on an IIS 6 web server. I have the same module working on an IIS 7 test box, but we still have a couple of IIS 6 boxes to support.

The module is:

  • c# .NET 2.0
  • registered in the GAC
  • added to the system level web.config (as we want this for all applications on the box). I followed the instructions from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms227673.aspx. I tried it with both short name (as in the web page) and the full strong name (like the other entries in the <httpModules> section.

So, I am at a loss as it does not appear to even being called and any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

2436 warning followed by 2424 error

We keep getting these two events EVERY 5 minutes in same order. Also we're experiencing slow response meaning that loading page from sharepoint sometimes just hangs for a while before even starts loading page to browser. Can this hanging be somehow related to these logs?

Notice that srv02:3812 is a Central Admin IIS web site ??  Config  db is on ms##ssee and content is on sql express.

I know about 2424 search service built in account issue and service is running under server admin account.

Any help would be appreciated.

Status "Installing" keeps stuck

Hi All..

I have a problem about status that is stucked.. I've read many forums that related to my problem, but still can't solved it yet :(

Here is my problem...

After 3 months I keep on uploading, removing, and uploading form, I have no problem.. Until today, when I want to upload my form, the status keeps on "Installing", instead of "Ready".
Then I removed my form using Timer Job Definitions, and I delete form.wsp. It works.
Afterwards, I try to upload form again, I have the same problem with stuck status. And then I delete again using same way.
I've tried more than 10 times, and the result still the same one.

Things that I've tried are:
- Reset IIS.
- Reset Application Pool.
- Check the services (e.g: Windows Sharepoint Services Administration, Search, Timer, Tracing) -- all are already started.
- Use "stsadm -o execadmsvcjobs"
- Reset Infopath Form ID
- Publish and change Infopath Form Name
- Command "net start SPTimerV3" and "net start SPAdmin"

Tried all things above, but still can't work. Status is still stuck.

Then, I try to upload other forms, but still have the same problem.

Please help me. I'm stuck already... :((

Is there anything I can do again?

Preventing Manual DataBindings from Being Stupid...

Okay, This is rather annoying, but the basic situation is that using the Control.DataBindings() collection is often VERY simple easy and effective.  However, there are circumstances that require tweaking. Case and point: Application Settings via the My.Settings class structure.  Now, I have a "Preferences" form which upon the load of my application the first time, it requires the user set certain settings (and will cancel out of the app if the aren't defined on the first load).  All of this works fine, but I have a minor little glitch revolving around the Binding.Parse event and the Binding.WriteValue() method. Basically, when the Preferences form loads, all the controls that are bound to a My.Settings property, are set to DataSourceUpdateMode.Never.  In the Form.Load event, I execute a Control.DataBindings(0).ReadValue() on each of the controls that are bound.  This propagates the form with the appropriate values from the My.Settings Class.  Now the user changes/edits/modifies etcetera the values of the controls on the form, and based upon the appropriate values the OK Button will become enabled. Two of the values are "Folder Locations" but are uniquely formatted in my case, using a "special folder" moniker, for Desktop, or My Documents, etc, etc, etc, so if the user browses for a folder or types one in manually, m

Having problems installing/setting up SQL Server 2008 Express/R2 for ASP.NET user management on deve

I'm a bit new to installing and configuring, well, just about anything regarding databases, so please bear with me. I'm currently building a couple of ASP.NET MVC 2 sites.  I'm following along with the MVCMusicStore tutorial, and am trying to set up user management using ASP.NET's configuration tool.  The problem is that ASP.NET can't 'see' the database. I have SQL Server 2008 installed on my laptop.  It's the version which is available on the Web Platform Installer (I believe it's Express).  When I try running the aspnet_sqlreg.exe program to set up my user management database, it can't tell that I'm running any version of SQL Server at all.  I get an exception about 'named pipes', and some other things I don't understand at the moment. Obviously, this is all a bit over my head.  Is there an idiot proof guide or tutorial available that describes, step-by-step, how to: 1. Install SQL Server 2008 on a development PC 2. How to configure it to be used by Visual Studio 2010 Professional 3. How to properly upload/modify the db on the production server with what's on the development PC Essentially, all the things that the ASP.NET tutorials gloss over.  Any suggestions, links to documentation, or other nudges in the right direction would be immensely appreciated.

Was installing SQL 2008 Enterprise last night via RDP. When I came in this morning, I was disconnect

When I opened a connection, the old connection was gone, perhaps a reboot? I am able to connect to the instance from the server and create a table  and query a DB.  I am however unable to connect to the Instance from my 2005 client. How can I tell the install was successful? Looking in the event logs and not seeing anything around the time it would have completed. Additionally: I checked and Remote connections is enabled. TCP and Pipes are enabled. SQL Browser is stopped, when attempt to access to start that I get an error: The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices asssociated with it [0X80070422] I can't telnet into 1433 on the server.. might be firewall. Do I really need to open that manually? My client is SQL 2005, I believe I've connect to sql 2008 DBs. Should I upgrade the client on my client? I attempted to stop and start the instance. when I started it I got this mess: Server stack trace:    at Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.UI.VSIntegration.ObjectExplorer.ObjectExplorer.FindObjectExplorerFrame()    at Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.UI.VSIntegration.ObjectExplorer.ObjectExplorer.GetObjectExplorer(Boolean activateWindow)    at Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.UI.VSIntegration.ObjectExplorer.ObjectExplorer.ShowError(Exception e)    at Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.UI.
