layout of controls added programmatically

hi guys,

I have a custom user control which consists of a placeholder and some buttons.

In this control i add x amount of labels, checkboxes, textboxes etc programmatically at the onload stage.

Problem is these controls that i add are being placed next to each other and wrap like text in a paragraph.

How can i control the layout of these controls so (for example) i only have 2 per line or 4 per line or make sure they are padded correctly.

Sorry for the simple question but i'm new to asp but learning very quickly.

Programmatically added linkbutton disappears from gridview on click

I have a gridview with several boundfields and 1 template field that contains a link button. When I click on this link button I want to change one of my bound fields from text to a link button on the affected row. This part works just fine. I click the existing link button and the text in the appropriate field is replaced with a link button. But when I click on the new link button it just disappears. I have been researching this all morning and I believe below are the pertinent facts:

  • I am using the gridview OnRowCommand to capture the link button click and take the appropriate action based on the CommandName
  • I am using the gridview OnRowDataBound to create and add the new link button
  • I am binding the gridview in !IsPostBack

Based off some other posts I read I think that binding the gridview in !IsPostBack is causing the new linkbutton to disappear. How can I fix this? Do I need to add the new linkbutton somewhere other than OnRowDataBound? Do I need to bind the grid somewhere other than !IsPostBack? Am I going about this completely the wrong way?

I am happy to post any of my code, I just was not sure what would be most helpful. I apologize if this has been answered elsewhere. I have found lots of posts with similar situations, but none of them had an answer that I could use.

The Interoperability services make it very easy to work with COM Capable Applications such as Word and Excel. This article reveals using Excel from a managed application. Excel is the spreadsheet component of Microsoft Office 2000. The majority of Excel programmatic functionality is exposed through Automation via the type library Excel9.olb. The intention of this article is to express that a managed application can interrelate with Excel as a COM server.

Reduce ASP.NET Page size and complexity using JQuery

This is my first post on asp.net blog. ASP.NET Ajax and JQuery are two different ajax framework. In this post I will show, how we can enhance gridview using ASP.NET Ajax and JQuery. I also compare the implementation of these frameworks. In next posts i will explain more about JQuery and ASP.NET Ajax and also tell you "How to combine the power of both framework". My Future post will related to ASP.NET and related frameworks.

How to programmatically add controls to Windows forms at run time by using Visual C#

Create a Windows Forms Application
Start Visual Studio .NET or Visual Studio 2005 or a later version, and create a new Visual C# Windows Application project named WinControls. Form1 is added to the project by default.

using the linqDataSource control programmatically (dynamically)

my scenario is this: I want to use the linqDataSource control to bind data to a gridview for it's efficient built-in paging and sorting features *but* I don't want the data to be bound until the user has input various search parameters, so I need to bind the data from a button click event. Also, the search options will be somewhat complex in that there will be several optional search parameters, via various dropdowns and textboxes, so I can't just declaratively/statically setup all the WHERE parameters on the linqDataSource (at least I'm assuming I can't, or that it may result in poor performance if I do and just assign default values like the everything wildcard '%' for the cases the user doesn't use a particular search parameter). Given that brief description, here is an example of what I'm doing, but with only one WHERE parameter for simplicity, the real code will be adding anywhere from 1 to about 12 WHERE parameters depending on how the user sets the search options in the GUI.

the linqDataSource on the aspx page:

<asp:LinqDataSource ID="ldsMain" runat="server"
        Select="new (field1, field2, field3, etc..)"

Detect Browser Screen Size??

Hi Everyone,  I need to detect the size of the user's screen for mobile devices (especially the BlackBerry). I've read a lot of pages that seem to refer me to the Request.Browser object, but I'm finding that this object doesn't have the correct values. For example, I have a BlackBerry and when I use the Request.Browser to get the screen size, it tells me it is 640x480. Well, I know it's not that big since an image of 300px wide just barely fits. Also, when I run on my desktop browser, it also says my screen is 640x480. I can assure you, it is not 640x480! ha!

  How does anyone reliably get the browser's screen size?? Do I have to revert to some kind of JavaScript? If so, where can I read more about it? Will it be any more reliable? Someone must have an idea about this. Thanks in advance!!

Obtain mobile device screen size

I am trying to get the screenHeight and width:

 // Get MobileCapabilities from current Request.Browser
        MobileCapabilities currentCapabilities = (MobileCapabilities)Request.Browser;
        // get a property of the browser
        Response.Write(currentCapabilities.ScreenPixelsHeight +  " <br>");
        Response.Write(currentCapabilities.ScreenPixelsWidth  + " <br>");

 but this is always show that the Height is 480 & the width is 640

I am trying on HTC with Opera Mobile 9.5

Any Advice?

Advanced Basics: Set Word Document Properties Programmatically

At the beginning of another lovely day of writing courseware in mad pursuit of unrealistic deadlines, I received a frantic call from a business partner. He was at the end of a long consulting project and had several hundred Microsoft® Word documents, all of which required their document properties to be set identically, except the Title property of the document, which was to be based on the document file name, minus the .

Win32 Resources: Using C++ to Programmatically Retrieve a Global Cursor's Shape and ID

Getting global cursor information is useful when developing software that drives or gathers information about other UI-based applications, including information about a remote machine. This article describes a way to programmatically identify the current cursor's ID and bitmap at any point in time. The first technique described is based on polling for information and shows how to get the handle of the current global cursor. This handle will then allow you to get information about the cursor. You can also monitor WinEvents for changes to the global cursor.
