Issue Adding a new Lookup Field to an existing List Instance

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 16, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I have a code base that houses all of the column, content types, template, and list instance definitions. Am using the Update functionlaity a lot from version to version. Has been working well to this point. I just added two new columns (fields), one a Lookup and the other a Multi-Lookup. The fields are added fine on the update, columns look correct and the content type to which these were added also look fine. I can create a new List instance from the content type, and the new lookup columns are fine. The problem is this. Any existing list instances that were created from this same content type, now blow up when I try and access list items via the SP GUI. Something about a valid GUID, I dont't have the exect error anymore, but will repost it when I recreate the issue for the tenth time. I tried deleting the new lookup fields from this new list instance, thinking that I might be able to re-add them to fix the problem, but I get a new stack trace when I try and re-add them. Any hints on where I can start digging would be appreciated. I think I'll start with comparing the list instance schemas between an existing list and a newly created one.

lookup field list instance

hi,

Got and problem with and lookupfield I create some list instances, list definitions, content types with a lookupfields and all works fine  the list resovels the good list source guid so I can selected te values but when I try to save I get;

<nativehr>0x80070057</nativehr><nativestack></nativestack>Invalid data has been used to update the list item. The field you are trying to update may be read only.

When I manualy create a new list instance from the list definition everything works fine.
I'm guessing that the create list instances in the feature is causing the problem?

What am I doing wrong?

Workflow field not being added to list or views when adding a workflow

This problem just started happening in my entire site collection.  Anytime I associate a workflow to any list or doc lib the Workflow column that shows the status and links to the history is not beind added to the list or any views and is nowhere to be found.   Here's exactly what I'm doing:

1.  Go the List settings -> workflow settings -> add a workflow (for this example the OOB approval workflow)

2.  After adding I go to the List, the workflow column doesn't exist.

3.  I go to "modify view", and the workflow column is not listed in the available columns.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Feature Upgrade Functionality - Adding a new Content Type and List Instance

I've successfully used the upgrade functionality in SP 2010 to upgrade my list structures as needed. So far, these updates have been adding new fields to existing content types. Now, I have some new fields, content types and list instances to add, and am having trouble getting this accomplished. The scenario is this: - A new content type with a single custom field (also new), and a list instance for this new content type - A new field that is a lookup back to the new list instance defined above. This new field is added as an existing content type. - In my feature.xml, I have the Element Manifest specified with both new fields and an AddContentTypeField element for the new field being added to an existing content type:   <ApplyElementManifests> <ElementManifest Location="V1_04\Elements.xml"/> </ApplyElementManifests> <AddContentTypeField ContentTypeId="0x0100..." FieldId="{8028A1C8-1147-4DF7-B5C3-8A1F84A30360}" PushDown="TRUE"/> The result of running the update on this feature is: - My new field that is part of an existing content type is added - My new field that is part of a new content type/instance is added - My new content type and list instance is NOT created, therefore my lookup is broken Any idea why my new Content Type and List Instance is not being created? Do I need to specify there

Lookup field issue after restore

After restoring a site collection in MOSS 2007, lookup fields cannot link up with the parent list. May I know if this problem fixed in MOSS 2010? Besides, the list item GUID in MOSS 2007 are changed after restoring. Does this case still appear in MOSS 2010? Thanks!

Relation List Lookup Issue

Hi, I have 2 lists that are related. List 1 - costs ----- cost - Number quarter - Drop Down Created By - Default SP Field List 2 - people ----- person - User/Group AD Lookup team - drop down I am trying to link these 2 lists so I can retrieve the users team from the people list in a view for the costs. I have tried making it so the user has manually select their name for each cost (instead of using the Created By field), but when I try to make this value a lookup it doesn't allow me to select the person or team field from the people list? Does a lookup only allow you to lookup text values and is there a work around? Many Thanks, Michael

Adding Items to existing list using CAML

Does anyone know how to add list items (not files) to a SharePoint list using CAML?  I know how to do this in code but I was curious if it was possible in CAML. We can add files using the Module element quite easily and so I thought, why not list items?  It is possible to add list items to a new list using the Data element, but I am trying to add items to a list created earlier by another feature.

Cross site lookup field value contains the parent list item id and the title field separated by ;# i

Actually we are using third party component for cross site lookup and facing the problem with cross site lookup field value. Its showing the correct value in default list view mode, but in "Edit in Datasheet" and "Export to Datasheet" view cross site lookup field value contains the parent list item id and the title field separated by ;#. I need the actual value in "Edit in Datasheet" and "Export to Datasheet" view as shown in default list value, i dont want that appended parent list item id and separated by ;#.

Is there any OutOfBox soluiton for this. Please suggest me for the same.

Thanks,
Rajanikanth

Designing lists: Quick key combination for adding a new list column field?

I'm simply looking for a way to quickly design lists, and I find it rather slow to use the mouse to go to the Add New Column button in the ribbon every time when I want to add a new list field.

The only column that can't be changed type of later seems to be the Calculated column. But for all others, you can still change them afterwards.

UpdateListItems to populate multivalue in the lookup field of the list

Hi,

I want to populate a column which is of type lookup.I used the web service provided by the sharepoint. This column should contain multiple values. For this I used the format ID;#lookupvalue. But the column is not getting populated.

The elbatch.InnerXML looks like IS

"<Method ID=\"2\" Cmd=\"New\"><Field Name=\"RFPRequirement\" Type=\"Lookup\">623</Field><Field Name=\"Product\" Type=\"Lookup\">232</Field><Field Name=\"Offering\" Type=\"Lookup\">49</Field><Field Name=\"Services\" Type=\"Lookup\">212;#B: Event Management Service;#215;#(B) Incident Management Service;#217;#(B) Proactive Problem Management Service</Field></Method>"

Also I tried separating only the IDs by ;#.The elbatch.innerxml is

"<Method ID=\"2\" Cmd=\&q

Data View Web Part, update to Data Source / adding new list to existing data source

Hi all,

I have four Lists with identical columns :

List 1
List 2
List 3
List 4

I had to merge them, hence i created a data source ( Linked Source ) and merged these lists in SPD. I have used a data view webpart to display some columns from the merged lists data source and everything was working fine.

But now i have a new List : List 5 which also has the same columns like the other four lists and i need to update the data soure such that it is merged list of 5 lists not 4.

i updated the datasource property of the linked source to merge this new list as well. However the contents of List 5 dont appear in the data view webpart.

Am i missing something here ?

I dont want recreate the data view web part from scratch eachtime , because in future there might be List 6 , List 7 as well ...

Workflow - Create New List Item with lookup field

I have an 'Item list' that has 'ItemName' as a string. The Workflow creates a new 'Task' when a new Item is created. The 'Task' has 'Item Name' as a lookup to that 'Item list'.

I want the Workflow to "Create New List Item" and fill in the 'ItemName' lookup (in Task) with the 'ItemName' string (in Item).

The workflow won't do it because they are different 'types'. Is there a way around this?

Infopath field promotion issue with lookup

Can anyone help.

I have code which generates a site (libraries, lists and data) and attaches a form library with my form on it.

Everything is working great form opens and saves at each stage of the process etc.

A note due to installing this form and lists etc in a subsite I create the lookup I need in code so I can link the relevent lists etc to each other.

I am now in the final stages of the development and want to promote out some of the form fields to sharepoint however when I do this and then try it on a different site collection to see if the whole solution will install the infopath promoted fields for lookup are always not clickable when viewing the content type.

This is really annoying and I can't be the first to run into this but I can't seem to find a solution to fix it.

Small edit,

The fields I am guessing are grey because I can't edit them as they are read only?

But my lookup on my deployed site are showing as Text fields rather than the Lookup I need so are only displaying the Id of the Lookup value instead of the name...

This is annoying.

Submitting data to a lookup field in a SharePoint list

I'm trying to submit values to a SharePoint list that contains text fields and lookup fields.  I'm doing this with a WebServiceConnection and an XML file.  When I execute the submit without the lookup field, it works perfectly.  When I execute the submit with the lookup field it doesn't error out but my list is not updated.  Can anyone help?
