Cannot Restore Backup from Sharepoint Server 2007 to Sharepoint Server 2010 Trial Version

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 16, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
After installing the trial version of Sharepointn 2010 I wanted to restore my Sharepoint 2007 sites to it but received the following error:  "The site collection could not be restored. If this problem persists, please make sure the content databases are available and have sufficient free space." I went on to create a new content database in sharepoint 2010 but it still did not work. The old database i.e the one used by the sharepoint 2007 server is SQL 2005. During the installation of the sharepoint 2010 version I selected SQl Server Express for the database. Is there any specifics for migrating from MOSS 2007 to sharepoint 2010? Thanks for helping

Upgrade from MOSS 2007 Trial to Sharepoint Server 2010

I have a client who setup MOSS 2007 Trial and are coming up on the expiration.  Instead of buying a key for MOSS 2007 they purchased Sharepoint 2010.  I'm having some problems upgrading because its the trial.  What are my options for upgrading/migrating over to Sharepoitn 2010?

Backup and Restore Sharepoint 2010 to new server

I have a Sharepoint 2010 server running SQL Express. (SERVER A)     I have an identically configured Sharepoint 2010 server running SQL Express (SERVER B).   I want to migrate the data from SERVER A to SERVER B.   Does anyone out there have a step by step guide for this?

How to reinstall trial version of Sharepoint Server 2010 on the same server

I installed Sharepoint 2010 on my Virtual Box VM. I was having some problems accessing the configuration database and hence the central administration website. I couldn't figure out what was the problem, so I decided to uninstall and then reinstall the trial version of SP 2010. But now it's not letting me do that as it says I cannot install the trial version on the same server. Its been only 2 weeks since I installed the SP 2010 trial version, how do I skip this. Please help

MOSS 2007 to SharePoint Server 2010 Hybrid Upgrade Approach on Windows Server 2003 x64

There's some guidance circulating about upgrading to 2010 with a mix of In-Place and Database Attach upgrade methods. My Central Admin and SharePoint Web App are on a 64 bit server, but it's running on Windows server 2003 x64 and not on Windows Server 2008 or 2008 R2. SharePoint Team Blog says Server 2008 or 2008 R2 is required for SP2010. If I want to do the hybrid upgrade approach, is it possible to first upgrade the OS to Server 2008 R2 on the server where my Central Admin and SP Web App runs?  Or will this break MOSS 2007?

version dependency while backup restore of SharePoint 2007 Site Collections

hi all

I am aware of a version dependency on the stsadm -o backup/restore operation.

But will the same dependency exist for a content DB backup restore..

i.e. for example will we able to restore a content DB backup taken from a server with version say to a server with say assuming that the versions of SQL is the same in both cases.

Will the version difference in SQL create issues

Thanks in advance

Upgrade from MOSS 2007 to SharePoint Server 2010 but with a catch...

... and the catch is that the MOSS 2007 Site Collection is contained in the SharePoint Central Administration v3 Web Application and therefore the SharePoint_AdminContent_... database which is used by Central Administration (not my doing btw).  Please let me know how to copy it to a new 2010 server farm and then upgrade just our sites and content while removing all of the 2007 Central Administration stuff.

Office 2010 working with SharePoint 2007 Server

We have recently started migrating users to Windows 7 Pro and Office 2010 RTM.  Upon our first try at opening a word or excel doc from a sharepoint site, we found that it gives us the option of Edit or Read Only (by the way, we are using IE8 as browser).  After clicking either option and clicking ok, the word or excel program launches, but all we end up with is just a blank shell of the program....no document or spreadsheet.  Any ideas ?  Is this a compatibility issue with Office 2010 and SharePoint 2007 ??

Can I back up a site from SharePoint 2010 server and restore it on a SharePoint 2010 Foundation serv

I had a simple site in a SharePoint 2010 server, and I backed it up. That server is not available anymore, and all I have available is a SharePoint 2010 Foundation server. Can I restore on that server? I got an error message saying that the versions of "SharePoint Foundation" on the two servers are different. Note that only one of the servers (the destination server) was running SharePoint Foundation, the other one had full SharePoint 2010.

I don't think I am using any features that are not part of SharePoint Foundation... it's an extremely simple site. Just a list with custom list forms edited in SharePoint Designer.

Error saving Office 2010 files opened from SharePoint Server 2007

I have recently started testing Office 2010 and have found only 1 major issue - I cannot save any Office 2010 files opened from a SharePoint Server 2007 location.  Upon save I receive an error message saying "Upload Failed. This file wan not uploaded because the specified path was not found on the server." and the file is captured in the Microsoft Upload Center.  Using the Upload Center action 'Open Web Site' opens the site without problem; however, a all subsequent resolve actions fail.  Any ideas?

Accessing SharePoint 2010 Data with Server-Side APIs

Accessing SharePoint data in server-side solutions is one of the most common tasks that you will perform as a SharePoint developer. SharePoint 2010 provides powerful server-side APIs that enable you to retrieve, add, edit, and delete SharePoint data programmatically. SharePoint 2010 also includes the new LINQ to SharePoint technology that enables you to work with SharePoint data efficiently and easily.

Deploying custom Web Parts on SharePoint 2007 production server

I would like to develop a custom SharePoint 2007 Web Part for a client. Currently I'm using Visual Studio to deploy my solution to a test environment (since it's a SharePoint Project I choose just Build -> Deploy from the menu). What are the appropriate steps to deploy it to the production server?

I'd like keep it simple and safe (i.e. use the principle of least privilege). Therefore (if possible) avoid using stsadm, achieve this through web interface, or avoid using administrative rights.

Also, can I specify the scope of my Web Part, i.e. choose on which Web Application or Site Collection will it be installed?
