restore Sharepoint WSS 3.0

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 16, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I have a Sharepoint site up for document control here and need to test some disaster recovery procedures. My scenerio is to build a new Sql server, a new WSS server and restore the 3 Sharepoint DB's to the new server and more or less be up and running. I have tried this and am not able to over right the DB's created by the new installation of WSS 3.0 but am able to add the rstored WSS_content DB but not access the sharepoint site. What am I missing or doing wrong?

SharePoint Version 2.0 (WSS 2.0 SP3) Content Database restore to new farm

Is it possible to use an SQL backup from a sharepoint Version 2 SP3 database to restore the content on a new server farm and attach to a new web applicaiton. NOTE: This is WSS 2.0. In WSS 3.0 this is a very simple task, but it is not the same in WSS 2.0 (the add content database option CANNOT be used to attach to an existing content database like it does in WSS 3.0). The options I have found appear to say you need the configuration database from the old server then it can be done. I am migrating from an outsourced deployment, so I do not have access to that. Plan B is to do a sharepoint STSADM backup. THis seems to be a more likey way to do it.

Custom Web Part Problem After SharePoint Restore

Hi, I've recently moved our sharepoint site and databases (using Microsoft Internal Database) to another standalone server. I did a catastrophic backup and then restored it on the destination server successfully via the central Administration page. I have also copied our custom web part library dll to 'c:\windows\assembly' directory and 'C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\80\bin' directory. I also copied over the old web.config file to 'C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\80'. However, I still seem to be missing something as I get the error below while loading the site. I haven't been able to find a solution so hoping someone has seen it before here. Has anyone seen this happen before? Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks. Cannot Restore Backup from Sharepoint Server 2007 to Sharepoint Server 2010 Trial Version

After installing the trial version of Sharepointn 2010 I wanted to restore my Sharepoint 2007 sites to it but received the following error:  "The site collection could not be restored. If this problem persists, please make sure the content databases are available and have sufficient free space." I went on to create a new content database in sharepoint 2010 but it still did not work. The old database i.e the one used by the sharepoint 2007 server is SQL 2005. During the installation of the sharepoint 2010 version I selected SQl Server Express for the database. Is there any specifics for migrating from MOSS 2007 to sharepoint 2010? Thanks for helping

version dependency while backup restore of SharePoint 2007 Site Collections

hi all

I am aware of a version dependency on the stsadm -o backup/restore operation.

But will the same dependency exist for a content DB backup restore..

i.e. for example will we able to restore a content DB backup taken from a server with version say 12.0.0.7777 to a server with say 12.0.0.6666 assuming that the versions of SQL is the same in both cases.

Will the version difference in SQL create issues

Thanks in advance

Backup and Restore Sharepoint 2010 to new server

I have a Sharepoint 2010 server running SQL Express. (SERVER A)     I have an identically configured Sharepoint 2010 server running SQL Express (SERVER B).   I want to migrate the data from SERVER A to SERVER B.   Does anyone out there have a step by step guide for this?

sharepoint 3.0 service, database backup restore

I am using stsadm to run daily backup of the server, but would like to run hourly database backup, not sure if it works to restore database and log for sharepoint service 3.0, the db is on sql 2005 embedded edition. does any one know or has any suggestions to backup WSS3.0 hourly?

I tried the backup restore feature in the admin site, didn't get it work when last time the server crashes, so right now only use stsadm backup / restore.

Restore sharepoint sites after reinstalling IIS

Hi,

I've MOSS 2007 installed on a single server and some sharepoint sites are created. Due to some problems IIS has been uninstalled and re-installed again. Now how to get the sharepoint sites back ? Please help.

Thanks in advance,

Can I back up a site from SharePoint 2010 server and restore it on a SharePoint 2010 Foundation serv

Hi,

I had a simple site in a SharePoint 2010 server, and I backed it up. That server is not available anymore, and all I have available is a SharePoint 2010 Foundation server. Can I restore on that server? I got an error message saying that the versions of "SharePoint Foundation" on the two servers are different. Note that only one of the servers (the destination server) was running SharePoint Foundation, the other one had full SharePoint 2010.

I don't think I am using any features that are not part of SharePoint Foundation... it's an extremely simple site. Just a list with custom list forms edited in SharePoint Designer.

Thanks!

Leon.

SharePoint 2010 Unable to restore differential backup

Sharepoint 2010 farm and SQL server are two separate 2008 R2 servers.  Ran full backup in the administration site and ran a differential of part of the site.  Cannot restore the differential.  It is looking for the full.

Here is the error message:

Object WSS_Content_PubSrv failed in event OnRestore. For more information, see the spbackup.log or sprestore.log file located in the backup directory.
SPException: The restore operation cannot locate the backup file F:\MSSQL\Backup\WSS_Content\SQL_WSS_Content_PubSrv_Full_201104111900.safe. Verify that the file exists and then run the operation again.

I tried mapped F to the F drive on the SQL server but it still fails.  I have full rights and the service account has read rights to that directory on the SQL server.   Share is full rights
