Posted By:      Posted Date: September 16, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
Hi, There are around 10 divisional sites and home page in my MOSS 2007 configured with Search feature. The divisional users complained that all the documents are visible to all users, which is not supposed to be. How to restrict the Search based on the user access? Regards Sanra

Display files (where we dont have access to) in Search Results- Sharepoint 2007

Is there a way in which we can make the sharepoint search result display- files where we dont have access to ?

The requirement is that-

There are many files stored in document libraries which are either "Shared" or "Confidential"

Now normally The Confidential documents are not displayed in the search result of sharepoint search. (Since access to those files are denied)

Is There a way in which we make these files appear in the search result ? However when the user clicks on the URL/Title of the file the "Access Denied Page" is displayed (If the user doesnt have access).

This is because we dont want the files (Which are declared confidential) to be re-created.

SharePoint Portal Server 2001: Search and Access Disparate Data Repositories in Your Enterprise

The knowledge worker is greatly empowered if she is able to access information across the enterprise from a central access point. With the SharePoint Portal Server 2001 Search Service you can catalogue information stored in Exchange public folders, on the Web, in the file system, and even in Lotus Notes databases. This article discusses the use of ActiveX Data Objects and the Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning protocol for creating search solutions based on SharePoint Portal Server 2001.

Video: Enhancing the SharePoint 2010 Search User Interface

SharePoint has opened the search UI so that you are now able to extend the out-of-the-box search Web parts. Search also provides many places for you to create custom code to produce a rich search experience for your users. (Length: 2:04)

SharePoint Search returns wrong date

Hi i am running a Sharepoint 2010 enterprise search indexing a file folder structure with emails(.eml) and attachments(.doc(x), pdf, xls(x), ...). The search results shows a date like first full index time or something like that, but not the date of file creation or any other attributes of the file. My questions: - what may be the reason of the wrong date? - is there a possibility use another attribute for displaying that is more relevante? Please help Kind regards Werner Durrer

Creating and sharing new sharepoint site to internet, limiting user access

I am a new hire into an existing business as I.T. I know the networking, I know the computers. The owner now wants me to learn Sharepoint among some other things. They currently use WSS 3.0. I have been reading up on this for the last month. I think I am ready to extend the current site to make it an Internet site so the employees can login. Some other things we would like to do I have read up on and it looks like they can be done, things such as inventory tracking in collaboration with QuickBooks and creating a website / portal for clients to have a unique login on and can see the status of their jobs in custom SharePoint lists. As far as I can tell the clients need an AD account. However, apart from that I am not sure what to do. A little background.  The company has multiple clients, and we ship things out daily to those clients.  We use Sharepoint to track the status of the jobs as they progress through the stages ultimately going to delivery. There is one common page that lists all the jobs by all clients that is updated constantly. We would like to allow multiple (different) clients/logins and have a page customized for each client.  For example, you are a client and go to www.companyname.com/sharepointsite.html.  From there you would get to a portal page with a login. Once logged in you will be presented with the Shar

SharePoint Search Server 2010 Express returns no search results for non-admin users

This is going to sound crazy, but anyway... bare with me... I have a SharePoint Search Server 2010 Express (RTM) installed with a crawl account (call it sharepoint_crawl) which has full read permission to an entire site collection of 100,000 documents. I have logged in with this account to make sure it has read access to everything, and it does. I run a full crawl of all documents and allow it to finish. If I try and search the content for an extremely common term (i.e. 50,000+ hits) I get no results. However, if I log in with a site collection admin I do get search results. There are no indexing errors or query errors in either log files or event log. Everything looks like it is working correctly - just no results for non-admins Anyone tripped on this? I have recreated the crawl account and perform a full re-index with the same results. What gets me is that the crawl account does have read permission to the content it is indexing, the content is indexed correctly, but the crawl account cannot get results back. It is as if security-trimming is removing everything. Any ideas?

User cannot access Sharepoint site

I have a Windows Server 2008 64bit domain running Sharepoint 2010 and one user, and only one user, cannot access the default website.  I've added them to the users for the site and even given her full permissions.  She still cannot access it.  It comes up with Error: Access Denied.  You are currently logged in as and it gives the user name and an option to log in as a different user.David Kellett

Anonymouse user - Cannot search in SharePoint 2010

I've implemented anonymous access on a publishing portal running on SharePoint 2010.  The site is accessible but the minute I try to complete a search the user is challenged.Search is currently configured to use the native page (_layouts/OSSSearchResults.aspx) and I doubt that NTFS permissions is playing a role.http://technicallead.wordpress.com/

How to allow anonymous user to Search in SharePoint Foundation 2010?

I have created a SharePoint Foundation Web Application with Windows based Authentication and I have Allowed

Anonymous user to view Entire Web Site Access.I have used the Default Search which is Available in master page,

When i search the It does not allow search for Anonymous user to search. I really do not understand to fix this Problem .

I am new to SharePoint Foundation 2010.

Why does Windows Sharepoint Services Search want access to non-sharepoint databases.

I have installed a new instance of Sharepoint 2007 and am in the process of configuring all the farm services.  At the moment the farm consists of a sharepoint box and a separate sql server.  Here is the catch.  There are already some non-sharepoint databases on the sharepoint server.  The account under which Central Administration runs has dbcreator and securityadmin privileges in the database.  The Sharepoint_Config and SharePoint_AdminContent databases were created without any issues.

When I try to start the Windows Services Search, I get an "Unknown Error."  Looking in the event viewer gives the following error "The server principal "MyServerPrincipal" is not able to access the database "MyDatabase" under the current security context."  This is true, MyServerPrincipal does not have privileges to access MyDatabase, but why should it.  MyDatabase has nothing to do with sharepoint.

In an attempt to get past this issue, I gave MyServerPrincipal public access to MyDatabase, but that resulted in an additional error saying that it lacked INSERT privileges.  This is really worriesome.  Does anyone know why Sharepoint Search configuration would try to access the non-Sharepoint database?

Thanks a lot.

Access Denied while user logs out sharepoint 2010 FBA site

I've sharepoint 2010 site configured as forms based authentication having my custom membership provider.

On this site, i've a simple webparts that basically contains a asp.net login status control to allow users to login/logout. it works fine .. when user is not logged in it shows Login link that redirects users to the login page and when user is logged in, it shows Logout link.

but when i click logout link, user is not logged out completely. I get this error - Access denied and when i go back to the page (by clicking on the link provided on error page or just refresh the page) - the user is still logged in on the site !!

Here's the code snippet of my webpart:

This exact same functionality is working fine MOSS but it doesn't seem to work here !!

protected override void CreateChildControls()
LoginStatus loginStatus = new LoginStatus();
loginStatus.LoginText = "Log in";
loginStatus.LogoutText = "Log out";
loginStatus.LogoutAction = LogoutAction.RedirectToLoginPage;

SharePoint Search "access Denied"

I have a strange situation in relation to SharePoint search. I am using MSS 2010 Enterprise edition. The server farm consists of two web servers, an application server and of course a SQL cluster. I have a web application created that uses Claims based Authentication with NTLM as the Authentication type. The web and application servers are located in the DMZ while the database server is on the internal network. There is a proxy in place. The site is an internet site so anonymous is actually enable on the site.

When a crawl is executed I recieve an access denied. I get this no matter what account is used. I have already checked and verified the usual culprits:

  • yes, the loopback check has been disable (actually did the less secure option just to test)
  • I have validated the crawl account is added to the web application policy with "full read" access. I actually also added the crawl account as a site collection administrator
  • I was able to log into the site as the crawl account and browse all the content without any problems.
  • I have set the proxy configuration in the search administration, tried without bypass, with bypass, specifically listing the site.
  • I then changed the content account and tried with the Install account.

All have resulted in "access Denied&q

Sharepoint 2010 Manage User Profile Search

We have about 650 user profiles loaded and all seem to be pulling up correct with the sharepoint sites.  The profiles are available to the end user.  However when I try to search for any profiles in Central Administration -> Manage User Profiles, it only retrieves a few back (~10).   There are no profiles in the "Missing from import" section either.  I have tried all different types of criteria (domain\accountname, accountname, domain...)

Any help as to why I cannot pull up the profiles would be greatly appreciated!!

By the way..  the page displays that we have 650 user profiles as well.  "Total Number of Profiles: 650"
