Accessing the different controls inside a GridView control

how we can access a particular control which resides inside a GridView control. In this article I will show you how you can access different controls inside a GridView control. We will see how we can access a TextBox control, a DropDownList control and a ListBox control. If you are working with ASP.NET 1.X then you might want to check out my article Accessing Different Controls Inside a DataGrid.

Reuse a gridview within calendar control

Hello, I have a calendar control that will have events displayed within each cell.

I want to use a pre formatted gridview and simply bind the gridview with a dataset dynamically and display it within the cell of the specified day.

Is there a way to do that or do I have to dynamically build a gridview for every day that there is an event?

So here is the template gridview and datasource:

 <asp:SqlDataSource ID="sqlcalitemtemp" runat="server"
        ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:NNTrainingdbconnection %>"
        FilterExpression="Event_Date={0}"
        SelectCommand="SELECT NN_Fire_Events.Start_Time, NN_Fire_Events.End_Time, tblNN_Fire_Cli

RadioButtonList inside the GridView control

Hi, I have several rows inside the GridView control and each row contains a RadioButtonList control. I select the option c from the RadiobuttonList but when I press submit I always get the first index of the RadiobuttonList which is a). Hence, the RadiobutonList is not maintaining the selected positions. Any idea how to maintain the value.

Gridview with calendar control in VB

I have a gridview that has 20 columns in it. 3 of them are date fields. I am using templatefields but not edittemplates, only itemtemplates because the users want to update multiple rows and then update the data all at once. I have a panel with an update panel and a calendar on it and in the grid I have a popup extendar added to the textbox in the cell to make the calendar show but I can't get the value from the popup calendar back to the cell.

Does anybody have an example or is there a better way to do this?

Here is my templatefield:

<asp:TemplateField>
    <HeaderTemplate>
	<asp:Label runat="server" ID="lblInitialLabel" text="Initial Qual Date" Width="105px"></asp:Label>
    </HeaderTemplate>
    <ItemTemplate>
	<asp:TextBox runat="server" ID="txtInitialDate" text='<%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "initialqualdate")%>'
	 	BorderStyle="Solid" Width="80px" BorderWidth="1">
	</asp:TextBox>
	<AjaxToolKit:PopupControlExtender ID="PopupControlExtender1" runat="server" TargetControlID="txtInitialDate"
		PopupControlID="pnlCal" Position="Bottom" CommitProperty="value"

Custom control inside a GridView

Hi All,

I have created a custom pager control for implementing paging which has four link buttons, two textboxes and two buttons in it. I have derived that control from a Panel and have implmented the INamingContainer and IPostBackDataHandler interfaces.

Problem:
Every time I click on either LinkButtons or on buttons, the page gets posted back to the server and the LoadPostData method of IPostBackDataHandler gets called (as expected). But, the click event of the control that is cliked gets fired every alternate time.

E.g.: If I click on the LinkButton named 'First' for the first time, the click event handler will execute. Next time when I click on the same LinkButton, only the LoadPostData will get executed. Again, when I click on the same LinkButton, the event handler will execute properly. This pattern remains the same for all the buttons.

Please let me know if any one has encountered such a situation and what can be a solution to it.

Thanks,

Girish :)

Adding Dynamic Rows in ASP.NET GridView Control with TextBoxes and with Delete functionality

In my previous examples, I have demonstrated on how to add dynamic rows in GridView control with TextBoxes and how to save the values into the database. Now, seems that most of the developers are asking if how to add a delete functionality with it. So in this example, I'm going to show on how to delete a certain row in the dynamic GridView with TextBoxes.

In-Depth look at the GridView Control

In the last article we looked at few of the new controls available in Asp.net 2.0. We also talked about Grid View Control which has replaced the Asp.net 1.1 DataGrid control for good. In this article we will examine more features of the Grid View control. In this article we will see some of the common operations that can be performed using the GridView control. Apart from these operations there are many more functions that can be performed on the control and which we will see in the later articles

Using TemplateFields in the GridView Control

The GridView is composed of a set of fields that indicate what properties from the DataSource are to be included in the rendered output along with how the data will be displayed. The simplest field type is the BoundField, which displays a data value as text. Other field types display the data using alternate HTML elements. The CheckBoxField, for example, renders as a checkbox whose checked state depends on the value of a specified data field; the ImageField renders an image whose image source is based upon a specified data field. Hyperlinks and buttons whose state depends on an underlying data field value can be rendered using the HyperLinkField and ButtonField field types.

RadioButton inside GridView, How to get it work as normal

Did you tried before to drag a RadioButton control inside a Gridivew templatefield, and then you attempt to select these RadioButtons , you will notice that the behavior of RadioButton control will be changed and it will work just like the behavior of checkbox control! the user will be able to select more than one radiobutton in the grid!

Maintain HTML Radio Button Selection Inside GridView After Postback

Long time ago I wrote an article about getting the value of the selected RadioButtons inside the GridView control. The code did not addresssed the postback issue which means that the selected radio button was cleared after the postback occurs.
