 Hello mates,

I am hosting my ASP.NET application on a Windows 2003 Server.

To browse to my application one has to type the path :http://serverName/applicationName

I want users to only type  applicationName on the web adress area.I believe there is something to do with alias and CNAME on DNS records that can adress this.

Any help on how to go about doing this will be highly appreciated.

creating different sub page design template in sharepoint website

I know very little about sharepoint and have outsourced the design of a master page and sub page design for a new website using sharepoint. i received a site master file with all of the necessary images and the home page works just fine. However the file i received for the sub page design template was an ASPX file with the following instructions:

Here I enclosed the inner page layout file. You upload this file by using following instructions. you can change & edit the blue menu section in the master page itself. If I change into modifiable section you need to add the menu in each and every page, otherwise it will show as empty block. Please let me know your comments.

Steps for uploading inner page layout page.

1.Select the Site Actions button and click on Site Settings->Modify All site settings

Hiding and showing the columns depends upon the filter condition

H,   We developed around 70 ssrs reports for our new application.Its like,all the report names are menrioned in the left hand side and if we click it,.Net calls the SSRS reports and shows the filters in the top of Right hand side.   We will select some filters there and then 'GO', it will fetch records. The issue now is, assume we have 6 columns in the report and depends upon the selection in the filter area, the columns should vanish.is it possible?

Creating a new document in Document Library from custom menu item (in the ECB)

Hello! I created a custom menu item in the ECB for a document library. I'd like for this to create a new document from this menu item. Additionally, I'd like to create a workflow where the Title of the document from which the menu action originates is inserted into a custom textfield in the new document that is created. Is this possible using SharePoint Designer?

Attendance column not showing up as field when creating new calendar item

I have a SharePoint calendar, with a little over a dozen columns (I have also added a couple extra columns). When adding/editing calendar events, I notice that the Attendance column is not showing up as a field. If I look in SP Designer, I see the column, Attendance, but it shows a blank Content Type (whereas most all the other columns have a Content Type of Event). Can someone please talk me through this? Not only do I need the Attendance column to be a field for a calendar event, but I have the same calendar on many other sites, so hopefully I can update the Content Type for the Attendance column to Event and solve my problem. Please advise.

Showing/Hiding web parts

I am trying to show or hide web parts based on a set of rules. I'm not sure which programming language to use, whether I even need to use one (or if I can accomplish this through sharepoint), or where to put the code if I do need to use a programming language. I do however know how to program in general but not in tandem with sharepoint. My rules are similar to (show web part 2 if web part 1 has content equal to X). Please tell me what the best course of action to accomplish dynamically showing/hiding web parts would be.

I have looked into IRuntimeFilter and LimitedWebPart but I'm not sure if either of these is a good idea. Just looking for a little direction. Thanks.

Creating dynamic category menu integrate with back office.

Dear friends,

Im developing ecommerce website and i want to add category menu to my website. This category menu should have 2 levels for sub categories as well. I tried navigation controls in ASP.net. But still i cant understand how to create the navigation menu in order to integrate with back office. I understand that i can do this with XML file, But if i want to add new products categories or remove categories, XML file should update automatically according to that. I don't understand how to do that. In brief all i want is create category menu with subcategories and i want to control this from my back office.

i read this tutorial http://www.asp.net/web-forms/tutorials/tailspin-spyworks-part-3  But it doesnt shows subcategory menus.

Im new to asp.net. so please explain me what is the simplest way to create such menu,

need help in getting started with creating menu bar just like vistaprint has in their site!!

i want to implement a menu bar which will have options like, save, undo, redo, cut, copy, paste, delete, crop, resize, zoom, rotate, drag and drop elements within canvas. inshort, i want to implement a editor that will have all the options related to text and images like the ones mentioned above. i tried ckeditor but in my case as i want it like vistaprint it is not useful at all. So, decided to implement my own editor. But i was wondering where do i start for this??  is it possible to develop using asp.net + javascript? or sileverlight will be useful? or sharepoint?

Menu not showing up on the page.

I'm hoping someone here could help me figure what might be happening here. I'm trying to implement a menu system using CSSFriendly Adaptors.

To start with I referenced the CSSFriendly.dll into the Bin folder then added the menu.css and CSSmenu.css to the css folder. and used the following web.config file. Then I created a simple page with a menu control

The page loads with the menu system and all works great as it should.

<?xml version="1.0"?>

        <!--Sets path for JavaScript files for CSSAdapter-->
        <add key="CSSFriendly-JavaScript-Path" value=""/>

        <compilation debug="false" strict="false" explicit="true" />
                <clear />
                <add namespace="System" />
                <add namespace="System.Collections" />
                <add namespace="System.Collections.Specialized" />
                <add namespace="System.Configuration" />
                <add namespace="System.Text" />
                <add namespa

New menu not showing when content management enabled

As soon as I enabled content management on a custom list, the New menu dissapeared. Also on the home page under the list, "Add a new item" link also dissapeared. Is this by design.
How can I bring that feature back.

Hiding Menu Items with Role

I have been trying to figure this out for a couple days, but am getting really confused on the many different posts/articles I have read.

I am trying to hide certain menu items based on the users role.

I have a Menu and a SiteMapDataSource on a master page:

<asp:Menu ID="NavigationMenu" runat="server" CssClass="menu"
  EnableViewState="false" IncludeStyleBlock="false" Orientation="Horizontal"
                    <asp:MenuItem NavigateUrl="~/Homepage.aspx" Text="Home"></asp:MenuItem>
                    <asp:MenuItem NavigateUrl="~/Personal.aspx" Text="People"></asp:MenuItem>
                    <asp:MenuItem NavigateUrl="~/Reports.aspx" Text="Rep

Creating a drop down menu with a variable range of cells in excel using Visual Basic

I can create a drop down menu using a range of cells as follows:

    With Selection.Validation
        .Add Type:=xlValidateList, AlertStyle:=xlValidAlertStop, Operator:= _
        xlBetween, Formula1:="=$G$2:$G$10"
        .IgnoreBlank = True
        .InCellDropdown = True
        .InputTitle = ""
        .ErrorTitle = ""
        .InputMessage = ""
        .ErrorMessage = ""
        .ShowInput = True
        .ShowError = True
    End With

I would like to create the drop down with a range of cells using variables.  For instance, in the line which contains $G$2:$G$10, I would like to substitute something like range(cells(1,2),cells(x,2)) to allow me to change the length of the menu depending on how much data has been entered.  Does anyone know how I can do this?

Sub sites showing at top level on quick launch menu

After making a number of Teamsites, I am experimenting with Publishing sites.  I am experiencing odd behavior in the Quick Launch and don't know if this is a function of the Publishing template or one of the configurations I have tinkered with.  The problem is that when I make a new site in my collection, the site name is displayed in the quick launch in the same heirarchy as Sites, Lists, Documents, etc., instead of showing up UNDER the Sites category.  Can anyone advise please?

There are no mistakes; every result tells you something of value about what your are trying to accomplish.

Need help creating an admin tool to reset password without question/answer

I'm dealing with a scenario where a legitimate user doesn't have a clue about his password, secret question or the answer. So, I was trying to create an admin tool that would help me in situations like these where the admin should be able to type in username and reset the password without having to know/enter answer to secret question. I understand that I need to make some changes to the web.config for this to work. I thought I made all the changes but my ResetPassword() requests are still not working.

Here's my web.config settings for the provider.
