SharePoint questions with regards to Intranet and Extranet configurations

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 15, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
Hello, I am new to SharePoint configurations and am currently looking at implementing it for our Intranet and then later on down the line, maybe 1-2 years, making it also an Extranet for our clients.  I have a few questions to ask regarding this. 1.  Can a SharePoint Intranet and Extranet run on the same server? 2.  If so, what are the security risks to having the server exposed to the internet as well as the internal network, what are the solutions? 3.  If I use the free version of SharePoint 2010 (Foundation) What are the costs for Intranet client access licenses? and Extranet client access licenses? 4.  Can the SharePoint application run on a separate server from the database? Any help with these questions is greatly appreciated as well as any additional concerns I should have for this implementation. Thanks, Mike

Integrate extranet Infopath with sharepoint intranet sites.

We ahve an extranet where customers can login to the corporate website and upload some documents to the sharepoint site though one custom dotnet application. In the same I need to create on custom page (custom aspx page) where users can directly enter their information on Infopath form (browser based), it should be submitted to the intranet sharepoint form library. Once the form is submitted to the form library I need to show the same form's link on the aspx page (custom aspx page developed for the customers). Users (customers/Out side people) should able to modify the form anytime and submit the same to the for mlibrary. Can anyo0ne suggest the right apporoach to accomplish this? Thanks in advance.

SharePoint: SharePoint Portal Server Makes Your Intranet More Manageable and Easier to Navigate

Most large organizations have mounds of disjointed information in a variety of formats spread out across an enterprise. To make the most efficient use of that information, it must be readily accessible, easy to identify, and simple to navigate. SharePoint Portal Server 2001 unifies information by allowing members of any organization to create, share, and publish documents from a single access point. This article covers the services in SPS that can help an organization improve workflow and information management.

Sharepoint 2010 masterpage editing questions

Hi, I have a Sharepoint design which I am trying to customise in SP2010. I can't make a new masterpage but I can copy an existing one. Why? I copied default.master. Do I need to keep any of the existing elements like Site Actions? Because this needs to exist if I choose to edit the site page. But of course for a read only user this won't display (is a shame this gets in the way of the design though). Please advise and provide any other useful tips. Thanks

query w.r.t to SharePoint 2010 Performance Planning & Extranet Topology

  1.      Which extranet topology to go with in case of exposing Intranet to Remote Employees / Partners ?   My understanding:   There are 3 extranet topologies : Edge Firewall , Back to Back , Split back to back   If Scenario is : a)      Only Employees needs to access Intranet from Home ,we can go for Edge Firewall b)      If partners & Employees , both needs to access Intranet ( it will have some partner sites ) , then we can go for Back to Back OR Split back to back .   Questions: ·         Is Understanding correct ? ·         Is there any factor which can help in making a decision between Back to Back Or Split back to back ?   2.      As part of sizing , I read that we should capture following information -          What should be maximum acceptable CPU utilization in production servers ? ( Example : 70%) -          What will be the concurrent number of users accessing portal during peak hour of a day ? ( Example 1000 users from total of 18000 users ) -          How many request per second are done to portal

Same server farm administrator domain account for both Intranet and Internet Sharepoint site?

Hello,   We are planning to setup 2 streams of architecture for both Intranet and Internet web sites. Just wondering whether there is any best practices/security concerns if we are using the same domain account as the Server Farm Administrator for both Intranet and Internet platform?   Thanks,

SharePoint AAM - Help - Publish Sharepoint with UAG to Internet and Intranet with Similar Url

I am trying to Publish Sharepoint with UAG to Internet and the desired url is https://abc.contoso.com and the internal people want to access with http://abc.contoso.com. I have my AAM in Sharepoint similar to this, which i read from Sharepoint UAG msdn documentation. The Internet people access the site using https to reach UAG which inturn request http to Sharepoint server. with the above AAM setup, the internal people will not be able to access the site using http://abc.contoso.com as there is no AAM mapping for it. i am not able to add AAM mapping as it says internal URL already in the collection. Can you please help how to make this setup , thanks Joe

Web parts function in intranet but not extranet

I have a sharepoint site that works perfectly from the inside. Every web part does exactly what it's supposed to do. Recently, I extended it to an extranet that uses https.  If I connect to the https site from inside my network, everything still works, even though all the links and paths change to reflect the different zone.  If I connect from my home computer, I am still able to connect, but none of my performancepoint reports or scorecards show up, and my external list just keeps spinning the green progress ball thing indefinitely.  I would imagine this is a permissions issue. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

what are the best ways to create extranet in sharepoint?

Users being prompted continuously for UN/PW when accessing SharePoint Intranet Site

From time to time, we have internal users who are continuously prompted to re-enter their network username and password when accessing any content or data on the SharePoint company intranet.  We use Acitve Directory authentication. Is this a network issue or something with SP? (We're using SP2007)

anonymous users vs intranet users in sharepoint 2010 internet facing sites

We have sharepoint 2010 internet facing sites where inside custom master page we have security trimmed control which hides site actions for general users.

Now we have anonymous access enabled. So any body can access this site.

Now even if user is author or from intranet , he can not see site actions as we do not have any sign in link.

How to automatically show site actions to users from intranet and with proper rights and hide siteactions to anonymous users?

Sharepoint 3.0 questions Domain name routing to sharepoint site

Wondering if you can help me.  I am setting up a sharepoint site on Server 2008 for my the small company I work for.  Its pretty new to me but I have done things like this in the past.

The domain the server and PC's are in is called ICCSOL.com.  Now I want people to be able to type in ICCSOL.com in their browsers and for it point  to the Sharepoint home page.

At the moment it goes to a page saying "It works"

My sharepoint site install automatically gave it port number 41658.  So it http://iccserver01:41658/default.aspx

I want ICCSol.com to direct to http://iccserver01:41658/default.aspx

Can anyone help me?  Its probably a simple thing to do but I just cant figure it out.

Many thanks in advance.

Which questions don't go to SharePoint 2010 forums

(work in progress)

This is to some extent based on a post that was necessary in the earlier SharePoint forums.

Here's a list of topic areas that have no place in the SharePoint 2010 forums

1. Questions on earlier SharePoint versions (STS; SPS 2001; WSS 2.0; SPS 2003; WSS 3.0; MOSS 2007).

These continue to go to the original SharePoint forums here:

2. Questions on Project Server 2010.

There is now (November 2009) a Project Server 2010 forum here

In time additional Project Server 2010 forums may be added in which case they will be listed here

3. Questions
