Removing the very top bar menu from SharePoint

Posted By: Posted Date: September 15, 2010 Points: 0 Category :SharePoint
Hello, We recently upgraded to SharePoint Enterprises 2010 and I am the main person in charge of the layout of the site. I only started working with SharePoint for internet sites about 2 months ago, so I'm still very new to it. I'm trying to remove the very top bar of our new SharePoint 2010 site and I'm not sure if it's even possible, and if it is I'm not sure where to start with it. The bar that has "site actions," "Browse", "Page," etc...my boss doesn't like it there so I'm trying to at least hide it from users. I know I still need it to make changes and edit pages, but is it possible to remove it for users? And if it is, how would I do that? All I'm familiar with right now as far as the layout of the site is making changes to the v4master page. If it 's not possible to remove it, is there a way that I can make it smaller (not as thick, because it takes up too much of the page)? Thanks in advance for any info you can provide!

Removing forms from the List Item Menu with SharePoint Designer

In SharePoint Designer 2010, if one removes one of the default forms (say "EditForm.aspx"), how does he also remove the "Edit" option from the List Item Menu? The default forms are not represented in the "Custom Actions" pane when looking at the form settings page in SharePoint Designer. The background is that we have created a custom form that is really add, edit and view combined into one. We need to eliminate two of the pages and only link to the one that is left.

Can I open the "new" menu in a SharePoint Document Library using Dragon NaturallySpeaking?

When a user, who uses Dragon NaturallySpeaking, says "new" when viewing a Document Library the default content type is selected and the associated application (e.g. Microsoft Word) is launched. This scenario is okay for Content Type selection since the Microsoft Office applications will prompt for the metadata once the file is saved.

If the user needs to create new folders in the Document Library however they need to expand the "new" dropdown menu.

What is the best way for someone using Dragon NaturallySpeaking to expand the "new" menu for a Document Library in SharePoint?

Add edit drop down menu so I can edit pdf files in SharePoint

I have a pdf file that I'd like to open and edit. The pdf file just opens, and doesn't ask if it should be opened as a read only or edit option. My colleague is able to select edit mode as a drill down, but I can't figure out how to add this functionality into my document library... does anyone have a solution?

No "Site Actions" Menu Available in Sharepoint 2007

I installed Sharepoint Designer 2007 on my home pc. It does not have the "Site Actions" menu. I originally created my Web site (I upload files via FTP) using MS Frontpage. How do I change the theme created in MS Frontpage? Or, how do I find the "Site Actions" menu?

Any help will be appreciated.

Customize SharePoint Library Menu Items

Hi, In a library with file, the menu items available for any file is: View Properties, Edit Properties, Manage Permissions, Edit in <ApplicationName>, Delete, Send To, Check Out, Workflows, Alert Me . Now, I want to get rid of Edit Properties, Manage Permissions, Edit in <ApplicationName>, Delete, Check Out . Added to this is the need to remove the option in the Actions menu that states "Open With Windows Explorer " and finally the "Upload " menu is to go out. Any JScript for this or a file I need to edit to get this result? I need this because the business wants it out, its bordering on security. Add "New Calendar" to the site actions menu in SharePoint 2010

I really like how SharePoint 2010 uses Silverlight to allow users to create a new Document Library from the Site Actions menu. I would like to alter the v4.master page and add a new menu item to the Site Actions menu that allows the user to create a new Calendar. How do I alter the code below to make a new menu item that will create an events list? <SharePoint:MenuItemTemplate runat="server" id="MenuItem_CreateDocLib" Text="<%$Resources:wss,siteactions_createdoclib%>" Description="<%$Resources:wss,siteactions_createdoclibdesc%>" ImageUrl="/_layouts/images/NewDocLibHH.png" MenuGroupId="200" Sequence="220" UseShortId="true" ClientOnClickScriptContainingPrefixedUrl="if (LaunchCreateHandler('DocLib')) { GoToPage('~site/_layouts/new.aspx?FeatureId={00bfea71-e717-4e80-aa17-d0c71b360101}&ListTemplate=101') }" PermissionsString="ManageLists" PermissionMode="Any" VisibilityFeatureId="00BFEA71-E717-4E80-AA17-D0C71B360101" />

SharePoint - Hide items in 'Site Actions' menu

I would like to hide a number of items currently listed in the 'Site Actions' menu of a publishing site I've created.

In this feature would I be able to also specify which 'Site Actions' items to hide?

Hide public view of list on left menu - no SD - Sharepoint 2003

Hi folks,

I'm working in a crippled sharepoint environment - basically our multinational company has given us a Sharepoint with a Teamsite template and no tools to get the best out of it.

I have created a site with a list containing 3 public views. 2 of these views are for the "the workers" to input and view data. The 3rd view has all items, and is for management information for a select number of users. These users do not use the view directly, it is picked up by an Excel spreadsheet.

The 3rd view in it's completeness is sensitive information, and we would like to remove the view from the views menu on the left hand side. I suspect that this may be possible using javascript code, in a CEWP. I am making this assumption because this article seems to be doing something similar:

I am not familiar with javascript or the objects referred to, although I have used javascript previously to amend column widths in a view.

Any suggestions?
