We are using SharePoint 2007 standard edition in configuration of 2 x WFE + 1 x SQL backend (cluster). Only one WFE is exposed for the users and the secound one is just use for "central admin" and search crawling.
Lately we found (and I'm not sure if this issue exist before) that in case of already published articles/news on SharePoint users who are the authors of them are finding issues when they are trying to edit and publish them again.
Few information about our news/article solution: Solution used by our users was built based on "publishing infrustructure delivered out of the box from SharePoint" and the only customization we did, was writing special web part, which is presenting list
of news/articles and letting user to create new news/article and during that creation process system is assigning special permission to created document = author is the only one who has option to edit this document (+contribute, +approve).
and the problem:
User is going to the main page and using our web part he is creating new article (as mentioned before during this process new document is created with use of sharepoint account (evaluated privilages), we braking permission inheritance chain, we adding +contribute,
+approve rights for the user who initiated creation process and on the end we are doing check-in and check-out of the document).
