Edit Item Link

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 15, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
Does anyone know if it's possible to create a hyperlink that would be identical to the "Edit Item" button when you're displaying a list item?   I want to get rid of the toolbar all together and just have a hyperlink for editing the current item.  I could just take the address that the Edit Item button leads to, but it goes to the specific Item ID.  I want to make it so that hyperlink changes to the Item ID of the list item that's currently being viewed. Does that make sense?  Any help is appreciated!

Content Query Webpart to show edit item link field in SPS2010

I have a Content Query Webpart in SharePoint 2010 that I would like to surface Documents grouped by content type. I wish to show the edit form or view Properties link as part of the fields shown in the results. When the User clicks on this link, it should take him to the edit form or view Properties page for the document.

Any ideas?

Sharepoint 2010 - Lists not displaying Edit (Link to item) for Users with Edit Only access

I am using Sharepoint 2010.  I have several lists whose view includes the column "Edit (Link to Item)" in the default view.  I am the site admin so when I view the list the "Edit" column appears with the small "paper and pencil" icon and it works when clicked.

I needed some users to only be able to view and edit existing items (not add or delete).  So I have created a site level permissions that I copied from "Read" and only checked the "Edit Items  -  Edit items in lists, edit documents in document libraries, and customize Web Part Pages in document libraries" under Lists.

This new permission level does allow users to see the edit menu item on the standard "Title" hyperlink dropdown, but in the"Edit" column there isn't an icon or any clickable link to edit in the column.  Only from the menu.  Its as if the icon won't appear if I don't give them Add capability which is what I don't want.

 Thanks for any tips,

Edit Item link pointing to wrong list

I made a list from a template. The Edit Item link in this new listlist is pointing to the wrong list (one that doesn't exist any longer - the one the template was made from) and so I get a 404 page error.  I have modified the list properties in Designer to point to the correct list/listfile. Then when I try the edit link I get "an unexpected error has occurred."  Is there a way to correct this or am going to have to recreate the list and not use a template.  What is the point of using a template if it points to the wrong list?
There are no mistakes; every result tells you something of value about what your are trying to accomplish.

listview 3.5 bind dropdownlists edit item template VB.NET

I am trying to do this with many issues of data binding doubling the amount and not setting selectedValue on dropdownlist. I have read some posts and they help but I am missing a crucial piece. My problem is that my dropdownlist is doubling the amount of records for the dropdownlist. Instead of "YES;NO;SELECT A VALUE", I am getting "YES;NO;SELECT A VALUE;YES;NO;YES;NO". My database is correct with the UPDATE part but the rebind after update is failing horribly.

Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
        If IsPostBack Then
            If Session("ACTIVETAB").ToString() = Session("SUBCONTRACTSATABNO").ToString() Then
            End If
        End If
    End Sub

    Public Function loadlookups(ByVal id As String, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.ListViewItemEventArgs) As DataTable
        Select Case id
            Case "ddlCertReceived"
                dt = GetLookupTable("SubcontractsA", "Sub 1 Cert Received")
                Dim ddlCertReceived As DropDownList = _
                CType(e.Item.FindControl("ddlCertReceived"), DropDownList)
                ddlCertReceived.DataSource = dt
                ddlCertReceived.DataTextField = "lup_text"

link from one list item to another item in the same list?

I have a list in which it is possible for one item to be related to another list item in the same list.  I am trying make a column in the list which would contain a hyperlink to the related list item.  The primary column is called Bill Number, and the secondary column is Companion Bill Number .  The Companion Bill Number is the one I want to be a hyperlink to the list time in which that number is the primary Bill Number.  (hope that made sense!).

I thought I could create a hypertext link out of the Companion Bill Number dynamically in a workflow action that runs on item creation.  I tried this by using the string builder to create a string for the hypertext link that I set to a workflow variable.  It looks like this  <a href="listURL.aspx?ID=[%Bill:CompanionBill%]">[%Bill:CompanionBill%].  Then in another action in the same workflow I tried to set the CompanionBill column to the variable value.

What I ended up with was, instead of the number as a hyperlink, the text in the column reads as [%Bill:CompanionBill%].  I'm thinking this is failing because of the workflow process doesn't have the value of CompanionBill at the time I am asking it to set the variable value.

Any ideas on how I might make this dynamic link creation work?

Cannot enable Ribbon Edit Tab buttons and "connect" them to a list item in my custom webpart

I have one list with some custom fields and I want to develop a custom page. So, I created an ASPX page and added my custom webpart. This webpart has just a RichTextField, in edit mode, "linked" to one item of the list, like below: SPSite _SPSite = SPContext.Current.Site; SPWeb _SPWebProjects = _SPSite.OpenWeb("/Projects"); SPList _SPListProject = _SPWebProjects.GetList("/Projects/Lists/Project"); int _ID = Convert.ToInt32(this.Page.Request.QueryString["ID"]); RichTextField _RTF = new RichTextField(); _RTF.ID = "RTF"; _RTF.ControlMode = SPControlMode.Edit; _RTF.FieldName = "History"; _RTF.ItemContext = SPContext.GetContext(HttpContext.Current, _ID, _SPListProject.ID, _SPListProject.ParentWeb); _RTF.RenderContext = SPContext.GetContext(HttpContext.Current, _ID, _SPListProject.ID, _SPListProject.ParentWeb); this.Controls.Add(_RTF);   Then, I "turned on" the edit tab on the ribbon by doing the follow: protected override void OnPreRender(EventArgs e) { SPRibbon _CurrentRibbon = SPRibbon.GetCurrent(this.Page); _CurrentRibbon.TrimById("Ribbon.WebPartPage"); _CurrentRibbon.MakeTabAvailable("Ribbon.ListForm.Edit", string.Empty); _CurrentRibbon.MakeContextualGroupInitiallyVisible("Ribbon.ListForm.Edit", string.Empty); _CurrentRibbon.Minimized = false; _CurrentRi

Unable to Show Edit item Links in Data Form Web Part

I have a DFWP connected to custom list and the boxes to Show Edit Item Links, Show Delete item links and Show Insert Item links are grayed out so that they can not be checked. This works fine when I use a DFWP connected to a standard list (i.e., Contacts). Is there something special that needs to be done to activate this functionality?ThanksDean

Refresh Parent Page List after Edit Item Modal Dialog Save/Close

I am calling the Edit Item URL (EditForm.aspx?ID=x&IsDlg=1) via javascript code to bring up the Edit Item Modal Dialog. This works fine and dandy. But what callbackfunction should I invoke after the Save so that the parent list is refreshed? Is there a better way to do it than call reload on the entire parent frame? It almost looks like there should be a way to refresh just the list. Any help appreciated. Thanks, Jake.

OOTB Approval Workflow SharePoint 2010 - Blank "Requested By" field appears in Task Item edit/view f

I am having a simple OOTB  approval worflow associated to the simple document library. Task is created when an document is uploaded to the library.  When I click the task item in task list, I see a blank field "Requested By"  right below the "Status" column and I am unable to understand from where this field is coming and how to populate this field. Any help would be great...

How can I edit the link to the document in a Approval Task email?

With the 2010 out of the box Approval workflow, the emails and tasks work just great, however, when a user receives the email, the instructions look like this:

To complete this task:
2. Perform the specific activities required for this task.
3. Use the Open this task button to mark the task as completed. (If you cannot update this task, you might not have access to it.)

Currently, we are using a friendly url for our users, in order to access their SharePoint site.  The <LINKED DOCUMENT> when clicked on, gives them an error and doesn't take them to the actual document in the SharePoint site, because of the fact that we are using a different url name for the site.

If there any way I can edit this auto-generated email so that the links will always be to the friendly url of our SharePoint site with each document?

Thanks in advance!

EMail Link to task edit form

SharePoint - Item - Edit Properties - Access Denied Error

I have a SharePoint 2007 EE Site  (with patches up to version running on Windows Server 2008 & SQL Server 2008.
I ported an existing site from a different domain to this server by backing up/restoring the content database. The site is running fine.

I added a new sub-site and here is where I have the issue. If I create a document library, add a document, and then use the drop-down on the item to pick "edit properties" I bounce to the SP Error: Access Denied screen. My account is a site admin and has full access to the sub-site.
I can view the properties fine.

When I try to upload a document I get the access denied error message if some of the meta data properties are marked "required". The document is still uploaded. I also get the same error when I try to edit an item in a list.

I can view/edit the properties in Data sheet view fine. The libraries on the existing sites work fine. It only seems to be an issue on new sub-sites.

It almost seems like a permission problem generating the property edit forms. There is nothing in the SP log files.
