Cannont connect to New Installation of SQL SERVER 2008 from New Vista Ultimate machine(s)

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 15, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
I have a new SQL Server 2008 Development edition installation on a Newly setup Server running Windows Server 2008 Enterprise edition.  The server is mainly a file server and is not setup as a domain controller.  Since my test environment is fairly basic (server and two Vista Ultimate machines) I thought the connection through data sources on the client machines would be straight forward.  But it isn't working.  I can see the server, ping the server, etc. but when I try and connect the client through a system DNS it will not connect using SQL Server authentication using a loginId.  (since it isn't on a domain, I can't use Windows NT Authentication).   The error is SQL Error 10060 and SQL Error 17.  (connection failed and SQL Server does not exist or access denied)  Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated. Error installing SQL Server 2008 R2 on a Windows 7 Ultimate 32 machine

HI all, I'm installing the Developer edition of MS SQL Server 2008 R2 (downloaded today) on a Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit virtual machine (using VMWare Workstation 6.5).  Yesterday I had tried MS SQL Server 2008 R0 with the same results.  Both give an error about 30% into the installation process: "An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'VSLangProj80,Version="",PublicKeyToken="b03f5f7f11d50a3a",Culture="neutral",FileVersion="8.0.50727.1826"' When I click the OK button, the install rolls that last bit back and then continues.  Unfortunatly I didn't take a screenshot of the main install window, just the error window. Any ideas what this error means?  The install yesterday seemed to work, but I'm not through the R2 install yet.  The R0 install also failed to install the documentation for some reason (I left it running during the night) Note that I have VS2010 (original release plus downloaded updates) installed and then just some small stuff like Snagit and Skype on this VM.  I updated Windows 7 completely before I started installing R2 so it is completely up to date as of midnight! Error installing SQL Server 2008 R2 on Vista Ultimate x64

I installed IIS7 on a Vista Ultimate x64 machine and enabled all Application Development Features, all Common HTTP Features, and Request Filtering.  Now I'm trying to install SQL Server Express 2008 R2.  It proceeds for a while, but then stops short with Error Code 0x84B30002.  The detailed error message is below.  What solution is there to enable the installation? Thanks.

SQL Server Express 2008 vista x64 installation rpc problem

Hi Folks,

I am trying to install SQL Server 2008 Express in a brand new workstation with Vista Business x64 and I am keep on getting this error:

"The following error has ocurred: The RPC server is unavailable..."

At the same time this alert message is displayed:

"Windows has encountered a critical problem and will restart automatically in one minute. Please save your work now"

After a while (~1 minute) the computer reboots, but I am not able to log on as usual. I have to reboot manually the computer in "safe mode" first.

Trying to reduce the problem I reinstalled the OS and only run the recommended Windows updates. Other than that the computer is in the absolute initial state. (The firewall is not the problem since I already tried it after disabling it)

Any clue !!!!!

Unable to connect to SQL Server 2008 R2 Database without being admin of the machine

I am receiving the following error when I try to connect to my new SQL Server 2008 R2 machine:

Msg 18452, Level 14, State 1, Server <server name>, Line 1 Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication.

I'm running the following command to test the connection:

sqlcmd -S<Server Name> -E -Q"Select @@servername"

On the server I'm getting the following from the SQL Server logs

03/31/2011 20:31:58,Logon,Unknown,Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication. [CLIENT:]

03/31/2011 20:31:58,Logon,Unknown,Error: 18452<c/> Severity: 14<c/> State: 1.

03/31/2011 20:31:58,Logon,Unknown,SSPI handshake failed with error code 0x8009030c while establishing a connection with integrated security; the connection has been closed. [CLIENT:]

03/31/2011 20:31:58,Logon,Unknown,Error: 17806<c/> Severity: 20<c/> State: 2.

What is odd is if I put the domain user in as Admin of the machine then it connects just fine.  I have tried just about everything I can find and I just cannot get it to work. Anyone have any clues???

SQL Server 2008 - Installation Woe - .NET Framework 3.5 SP1

On a Windows 2003 R2 x64 server, I have been unable to install SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition x64. When running setup.exe, I almost instantaneously receive the following Microsoft SQL Server Setup error:"Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 installation has failed.SQL Server 2008 Setup requires .NET Framework to be installed."What does not make sense is that I successfully downloaded .NET Framework 3.5 from the Microsoft download site (published 8/11/2008) prior to the SQL Server 2008 installation attempt.http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=ab99342f-5d1a-413d-8319-81da479ab0d7&displaylang=enI do need to note that a few nights ago, prior to downloading the framework (3.5 SP1), I ran the SQL Server 2008 setup executable. I was prompted that in order to install SQL Server 2008, the setup program needed to first install .NET 3.5 SP1 and Windows Installer 4.5. I let the .NET 3.5 SP1 install run for about 1.5 to 2 hours and cancelled (now I wish I had just let it go).It is my understanding (correct me if I am wrong) that the SQL Server 2008 setup program initially checks for any pre-RTM versions of .NET 3.5 SP1 Framework. If one is found, it is then supposed to guide the user through both the installation of the .NET 3.5 SP1 Framework and Windows Installer 4.5. I have removed .NET 3.5 SP1 Framework (Add/Remove programs) and rebooted. However, upon runni

Can not connect to user instance of SQL Server 2008 Express with Advance Services in Visual Studio 2

I used SQL Server 2008 Express with Advanced Services (not SQL Server 2008 Express) in Visual Studio 2010 because it is the fast and easy way to developed and managed data-driven applications with powerful built-in reporting and full-text search functionality. I received Sql Server 2008 Service Pack 1 with Windows Update. It's ok if I connect to instance of SQL Server 2008 Express with Advance Services (with SP1) through SQL Server Management, but if I try to attach a database in Server Explorer (Visual Studio 2010), I get the following error: "Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed." I'm stuck at this point. Is there a fix or a workaround? I've already tried deleting the 'C:\Users\Administrtor\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Data\SQLEXPRESS' directory as mentioned in other posts, with no luck. The error.log at 'C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Data\SQLEXPRESS\error.log' has the following relevant entries: 2010-09-01 14:44:10.47 Server      Error: 17156, Severity: 16, State: 1. 2010-09-01 14:44:10.47 Server      initeventlog: Could not initiate the EventLog Service for the key '3677F6D3-17C7-4F', last error code is 2. 2010-09-01 14:44:10.47 Server &
