Memory Management issue while calling COM method from .Net component

Hi all,  The Com Component Method say(GetChildresponse) requires Byte pointer as input. From .Net Component, while calling GetChildResponse  I am creating IntPtr and passing it to Component.  I am only creating the pointer in my .Net Component but allocation of bytes(CoTaskMemAlloc) happens at COM Method. After populating the pointer buffer, I am transferring to memory buffer in .Net method and Free the memorry of the pointer using "Marshal.FreeCoTaskMem" method.  Still I am not sure, whether it is deallocating the memory since the Garbarge collector wont happen immediately.  We are hitting on performance issue while doing load testing and we suspect this might be due to memory allocation that is not getting deallocated properly. Any pointers would be helpful. Thanks, Nithya Sample Code: unsafe {   // Get the physical memory address ocpHeaderBufferPointer = new IntPtr((void*)&ocpHeaderBufferPointer); temporaryResponseBufferPointer = new IntPtr((void*)&temporaryResponseBufferPointer); }   try {   try {   // Call the GetResponse of the pass through ocpChannel   new OCPChannelDSClass().GetResponse((uint)transactionId, ocpHeaderBufferPointer, out ocpHeaderBufferSize, temporaryResponseBufferPointer, out temporaryResponseBufferSize, (uint)timeout); }   catch (Exception ex) { &nbs

Issue - A significant part of sql server memory has been paged out.

Hello Experts,

I am running a huge SSRS 2008 report and it gets rendered sometimes and sometimes it gives me an error,

"The report execution has expired or cannot be found. (rsExecutionNotFound)”.

When I see SQL Server log after this issue comes I see following message there;

"A significant part of sql server memory has been paged out. This may result in performance degradation. Duration: 300 seconds. Working set(KB): 97672, memory utilization 42%"

Please help me to know what is the issue and how to fix it.

how to free something to increase available Virtual memory sql 2000

Memory
MemoryLoad = 60%
Total Physical = 6141 MB
Available Physical = 2428 MB
Total Page File = 8006 MB
Available Page File = 3630 MB
Total Virtual = 2047 MB
Available Virtual = 6 MB

the reason for failure backup, connection is virtual address space run out, see the available virtual is 6MB, is this something to do with, if so can it be increased by freeing something instead of restart the sql?

Workflow Designer 4.0 Load() Performance Issue: possible memory leak?

Hello everybody,

I am trying to implement a workflow designer in a windows form application and use the same designer to view different workflows. However, I found the program became slower and slower after loading several workflows.

my steps are as follows:

1. create a wpf user control WFDesigner to package the workflowdesigner;

2. In the user control  WFDesigner , implement a InitiateDesigner method which create a new workflowDesigner instance each time called. I suppose the old workflowDesigner instance would be collected by GC;

3. create a winform application and install the user control created on step 2 to an element host, and put the element host on the form.

4. add two buttons for test: one will execute  WFDesigner.InitiateDesigner() once and the other will execute it 100 times.

Memory issue vith SQL2008 SP2 on a 64 bits W2008

Hi to all !

Sometimes, my production system crashes, and a "memory status" is displayed in my errorlog.

I suspect that a stored procedure could be responsible...

Is anybody can tell me what pool is concerned by the issue ?

There is no message before the memory status, and just after it, i have :

2010-10-27 16:40:26.46 spid117     Error: 701, Severity: 17, State: 123.
2010-10-27 16:40:26.46 spid117     There is insufficient system memory in resource pool 'internal' to run this query.

Thanks for help !

Memory issue

Hi Gurus,

we have a sql2005 installed on windows 2003 server with 4gb of RAM.

We have lot of transaction intensive procedures/functions running on every minute through sql agent. My 'Available Physical Memory' is going down hour by hour and after some point of time, the sql agent stops automatically due to memory pressure. I checked blocks and lock on the database server and failed to see anything of those kind.

Can I use dbcc commands to clear memory related cache?

This is driving me crazy and please help me to resolve this.

Best regards, Sengwa

sp4 Sql server 2000 version issue

I have two sql servers one with version 2000.8.00.2050 and another with 2000.8.00.2055.

I want to upgrade 2050 to 2055. How can I do that.? I thought it is matter of sp4. so I installed a file [SQL2000-KB884525-SP4-x86-ENU.EXE] from

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=8e2dfc8d-c20e-4446-99a9-b7f0213f8bc5&displaylang=en.

But this makes no difference to version.

Do I need to apply some hotfixes?

Thanks!

SQL 2000 server has an issue after an unidentifed event and began running at a snails pace.

One of our SQL 2000 servers has an issue after an unidentifed event and began running at a snails pace.

     I know SQL 2000 is no longer supported.

We are running IIS on the same server and no connection can be made to the SQL server on the same machine.

     Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'

     Specifed driver could not be loaded due to system error 5 (SQL Server).

A std query from outside the server works fine until a  Join is added then it runs forever.

A backup and restord did nothing as well as reindexing, shrinking and optimizing.

After restoring the database on another SQL 2000 server we compared the speeds.

Bad server 4:22 minutes good server less then 1 second.

Any sugguestions??????  r.morrison@gerresheimer.com

ODBC connection issue to SQL 2000 SP4. [TCP/IP Sockets]Specified SQL server not found

Server: Stand alone Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise x64 Edition Service Pack 2

The server has 4 quad-core processors with 32Gb RAM

SQL: 2 instances of SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition SP4 with cumulative update version: 8.00.2040

I am trying to connect to the named instance of SQL Server with an ODBC connection. I am a local admin on the server and a sysadmin on both the default instance and the named instance. I get the error message

Connection failed:
SQLState: '01000'
SQL Server Error: 11004
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]ConnectionOpen (Connect()).
Connection failed:
SQLState: '08001'
SQL Server Error: 6
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]Specified SQL server not found.

My users are trying to connect via SQL login and are also receiving the same error message.

The default instance is listening on port 1433. The named instance is listening on port 1464. There is no Windows firewall installed on the server.

The annoying thing is that if I click on the button called "Client Configuration" when using the "ODBC Data Source Administrator" dialogue wizard, and I un-tick the radio box called "Dynamically determine port", and hardcode the port 1464 into the dialogue box, everything works as it should do.

Overriding CreateParams issue in windows 2000

Hi there,

We currently have an application that 99% of the target machines are running windows XP and there is no issues at all. However there is a few target machines that are windows 2000 (get with the times I know lol) and we are having issues getting the application up and running on this platform. It always crashes when certain forms should show. We pin-pointed it down to this overriden property that we have in some forms to increase performance:

 protected override CreateParams CreateParams

        {

            get

            {

                CreateParams cp = base.CreateParams;

                cp.ExStyle |= 0x02000000;  // Turn on WS_EX_COMPOSITED

                return cp;

            }

        }

Now I know how to get round this, I could easily put in a hack to just return base.CreateParams if this version of windows we are running on is windows 2000 but that doesn't help me know why this is causing a problem. The machine has plenty m

How to detect and avoid memory and resources leaks in .NET application

Despite what a lot of people believe, it's easy to introduce memory and resources leaks in .NET applications. The Garbage Collector, or GC for close friends, is not a magician who would completely relieve you from taking care of your memory and resources consumption.

I'll explain in this article why memory leaks exist in .NET and how to avoid them. Don't worry, I won't focus here on the inner workings of the garbage collector and other advanced characteristics of memory and resources management in .NET.

IsapiModule Error 500 Issue

I am about exhausted trying to figure out this error:

HTTP Error 500.0 - Internal Server Error

Description: The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred.

Error Code: 0x8007007b

Notification: ExecuteRequestHandler

Module: IsapiModule

Requested URL: http://localhost:80/ReportServer

Physical Path: c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\Reporting Services\ReportServer

When I enable Failed Request Tracing Rules and view the log output I am supposing that the actual problem is in the 2nd call where there are 2 backslashes before the actual filename in the specified path:

ISAPI_START

CALL_ISAPI_EXTENSION DllName="C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\\aspnet_isapi.dll"
