Problems with MSDASQL when working with linked server from t-sql

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 15, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Good day. I have a big problem when working with linked server to PostgreSQL from t-sql. ------------------------------------------- Windows Server 2003 SP2 x64 Updating OLE DB-Provider for ODBC WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB948459-v2-x64 SQL Server 2008 R2 Ent x64 (10.50.1734)  x64 ODBC Provider for Postgres ------------------------------------------- Created system dsn on PostgreSQL. Created a linked server using this dsn through MSDASQL provider. Settings MSDASQL provider by default (only Allow inprocess = true). Selects the linked server works fine. If I try to insert a table on a linked server: insert PG_SERVER.BASE.[public].codepost select top 50000 p1, p2, p3, p4, p5 from #qwe then inserting a small number of lines (up to 10000) of the form 'test', 'test', 'test', 'test', 'test'  it works, but more of a script hangs with different wait types (oledb, preemptive_com_release ...) and does not help even kill process, only restart sql server service. How to solve this problem?

Linked server from SQL Server 2008 R2 to SQL Server 2005 not working

I'm trying to create a linked server from SQL Server r2 to SQL Server 2005 (both 64 bit Enterprise) using the following script

 EXEC master.dbo.sp_addlinkedserver
 @server = N'TestLS'
 ,@srvproduct=''
 ,@provider='SQLOLEDB.1'
 ,@datasrc=N'dw_prod'
 ,@provstr='Integrated Security=SSPI;';

 GO

SELECT
    *
 FROM
    [TestLS].[I_OLAP].[dbo].[FACT_AUDIT]
I verified that the Kerberos is working.

When I try to run a four part query as below it gives me the error

Msg 18456, Level 14, State 1, Line 1
Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'.
OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI10" for linked server "TestLS" returned message "Invalid connection string attribute".

If I try to set up the linked server against localhost (i.e. SQL 2008 R2, it works just fine).

Thanks,

Distributed transaction using linked server not working in SQL Server 2008 64 bit

Hi. I have had an issue trying to get distributed transactions to work in SQL Server 2008 using a linked server. The error message I get is

OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI10" for linked server "pod1" returned message "No transaction is active.".
Msg 7391, Level 16, State 2, Line 3
The operation could not be performed because OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI10" for linked server "pod1" was unable to begin a distributed transaction.

My Environment:

Windows Server 2008 Enterprise 64 bit, SQL Server 2008 Enterprise 64 bit

Problem occurs with multiple different builds of SQL Server 2008 - I have been able to reproduce the problem with 10.0.1600.0, 10.0.1779.0 (CU 2), as well as 10.0.2531 (SP1)

I am aware that other people have had this issue and have reviewed all existing posts. I have verified that the MSDTC is configured correctly on both machines. I have also used DTCTester to verify that DTC is working correctly on all machines in question. None of the mentioned resolutions has solved this problem for me.

I am not seeing this problem occur on my 32 bit test machines - it is only occurring if at least one of the two machines is 64 bit.

Not working on Windows Server 2008

Hi,

I had the CSS friendly adapters working great on our old server (windows server 2003 - 32bit) and now we have moved to a 64 bit environment and now I can not get the CSS friendly adapters to work.

We are using SharePoint 2007.

Is there another work thru for 64bit environment.

I notice windows server 2008 has a directory  C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64 would I be using the browser file in this directory???

Please help!

Office Sharepoint Server Search not working but Windows Server Search is.

I am having an annoying Issue with the Sharepoint 2007 Enterprise search functionality. I cannot get the Search Centre to work, the out of the box webparts crash the page except the Searchbox when the others are closed. The event viewer shows up numerous Errors (Office Sharepoint Server - EventID 7080) returns with and the same when trying to add a search related web part (e.g. core.results, federated etc). EventID 6398 - Timer is a regular as is 7080. Details below.

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified).

Remote connections are connected, I am not 100% on the Instance name, (how would I go about checking this?)

Also I cannot access the link to SharedServices1 - Open Shared Services Admin site (not clickable), guess it's permissions but I seem to have full site permissions, I think I need SSP-Admin to make more edits to the Search, maybe this is related :s

Both Search Servers are runnig, I have tried everything I can think of to fix this and allow the Search Centre to work.

I am running Sharepoint 2007 on SQL Server 2008.

Linked Server to access Excel 2007

Hi

I'm tried SELECT * INTO XXX FROM OPENROWSET alongwith Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0.

Apparently the query requires the sql account to have SYSADMIN privileges.

Considering that SYSADMIN should not be provided to a database account on a Production Server, I tried using the Linked Server method.

Following is my code.

Exec sp_addlinkedserver 'AB2','Ace 12.0','Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0','\\202.46.215.35\sagarr\Test1\cpc\c2\AB2.xlsx',NULL,'Excel 12.0;IMEX=1'
Exec sp_addlinkedsrvlogin 'AB2','false',NULL,NULL,NULL
go
SELECT * INTO [CPCAB2.xlsx] FROM OPENQUERY([AB2] ,'SELECT * FROM [Sheet1$]')
Exec sp_dropserver 'AB2','droplogins'

Now i get the following error

Error.15247-User does not have permission to perform this action

My Excel file, Database and Windows Application run on separate machines.

i have provided the following privileges

GRANT ALTER ANY LOGIN TO sqlaccount
GRANT ALTER ANY LINKED SERVER TO sqlaccount

EXEC sp_configure 'show advanced options', 1
RECONFIGURE
EXEC sp_configure 'ad hoc distributed queries', 1

Problems building 32-bit .NETapplication that uses 64-bit COM server

I have a .NET application that uses a 3rd party 32bit DLL, so I need to build it using the x86 platform instead of 'Any CPU'. I also have a 64bit out-of-proc COM server that I reference the EXE directly in the project.  The project builds fine for 'Any CPU' but can't run on 64bit Windows because of the 32-bit dll.  This is expected.  But when I specify 'x86' the build fails and I get: TlbImp : error TI0000: A single valid machine type compatible with the input type library must be specified. C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Microsoft.Common.targets(1558,9): warning MSB3283: Cannot find wrapper assembly for type library "Engine_ATLServiceLib". Basically this tells me that it failed to build the Interop Dll for the COM server object.  First off I am puzzled that I get this message when a platform is specified, I would've expected this when I build for 'Any CPU'.  That aside, I am thinking the TlbImp needs a '/Win32' or something, but I can't see how to do this in the IDE based on the platform.  Furthermore I am wondering if the marshalling in said Interop dll will be correct when the 32bit managed code talks with the 64bit COM object. Does anybody know what to do here?

clr assembly in sql server - working directory? and exception question

Hello, I have a small assembly in sql server 2008... it's pretty simple, but in the very rare circumstance that it may throw an exception I am catching it and writting to a log file. something like: using (StreamWriter sr = new StreamWriter(@".\ErrorLog.txt", true)) { sr.WriteLine("{0:G} ===> {1}", DateTime. Now, ex.Message); } I believe that should write the file to the working directory... 1. what would the working directory be for sql server 2008? the binn directory? 2. what would happen if a clr assembly added to sql server throws an exception that is not handled by your clr code?

Problems migrating 32-bit SQCLR routine to 64-bit SQL Server

Greetings. I have written a 32-bit SQLCLR routine that uses the 10.2g Oracle.DataAccess library to draw Oracle data through SQLServer queries. (This tool was necessary due to issues we had with the Oracle native client). This has been in place and working without issue for about two years. This tool required the independent registration of about six (?) other system assemblies, which worked without incident (various warnings about using unsupported assemblies aside). We use permission_set = unsafe for all these DLL's. We are now in the process of migrating this tool to the newer 64-bit version of SQL Server 2008 on our Windows 2008 Server R2, and we have a problem. We took our list of base assemblies from the 32-bit installation and registered them against the Framework64 version of the same DLL's on the SQL Server 2008 box, and that step worked. We found that the Oracle.DataAccess library we had could not be registered in the 64-bit SQL Server because it was an x86-specific version. We then discovered that the 64-bit version of the Oracle.DataAccess library was available only in the 10.2.0.4 update patchset, which we obtained and installed. Unfortunately, adding the assembly now fails: When I attempt the CreateAssembly on the 64-bit Oracle.DataAccess.dll within the 64-bit instance of SQL Server, I now receive a new error, to-wit: "Assembly '

Linked server to access 2010

I keep getting an error when setting up a linked server in sql 2008 R2 x64 to a microsoft access database file (mdb or accdb file).  (The problem occurs on computers with either the 32-bit or 64-bit version of ms office installed).  What are the proper connection string settings?  (This is after right clicking linked servers in ssms and selecting "add new linked server")  The below settings don't work: Provider (from dropdown): Microsoft Office 12.0 Access Database ENgine OLE DB Provider Product name: Access Data source: C:\foopath\foo.mdb  --also doesn't work for foo.accdb Provider string: Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0 An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. For example: OLE DB provider 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' cannot be used for distributed queries because the provider is configured to run in single-threaded apa
