Cannot connect to SSRS from SSMS

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 15, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I have an SSRS 2008R2 server with Forms Authentication (ie a custom security module). It's all setup, configured, running, and I can report on it fine. What I can't do is use SSMS to connect to the SSRS to configure ROLES etc. It reports: The username or password is not valid or you do not have permission to access this server. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.UI.RSClient) If I click on additional information I can see: Program Location:    at Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.UI.RSClient.RSClientConnection.CreateConnection()    at Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.UI.RSClient.RSConnectionInfo.GetRSConnectionObject(Boolean ensureOpenConnection)    at Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.UI.RSClient.RSConnectionInfo.RSTypeImpl.ProceedWithConnection(UIConnectionInfo ci)    at Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.UI.ConnectionDlg.RSType.Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.UI.ConnectionDlg.IServerType.ProceedWithConnection(UIConnectionInfo ci)    at Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.UI.ConnectionDlg.Connector.ConnectionThreadUser()   And if I look in the report server logs, I can see the following error:   library!ReportServer_0-10!eb0!09/15/2010-17:41:28:: e ERROR: Throwing Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.SecureConnectionRequiredException: , Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.SecureConnectionRequiredException:

Can connect via SSMS but not SQLCMD/OSQL

I can connect to my SQL 2008 Express Edition server using SSMS.  I cannot connect using OSQL or SQLCMD and my application is having sporadic connection issues.  When I attempt to connect via OSQL, the following error is returned: Error: 18452, Severity: 14, State: 1.  Login failed.  The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with windows authentication. The following are errors present in the SQL errorlog:  Error: 17806, Severity: 20, State: 2.  SSPI handshake failed with error code 0x8009030c while establishing a connection iwth integrated security; the connection has been closed. [CLIENT: <local machine>] Error: 18452, Severity: 14, State: 1.  Login failed.  The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with windows authentication. I see an error in the application event log: Event 6037, LsaSrv  The program sqlservr.exe, with the assigned process ID 1788, could not authenticate locally by using the target name MSSQLSvc/{srvnm}.{workgrp}.net:{SQLinstancenm}.  The target name used is not valid.  A target anme should refer to one of the local computer names, for example, the DNS host name.  Try a different target name. Has anyone else experienced this issue - what else can I look into?

SSRS 2008 - report manager: System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server

I have an instance of Reporting Services 2008 running on Windows 2003 server.  So, the webservice URL is running on port 801, and runs fine (I can browse reports from that directory, and upload / deploy new reports and overwrite existing reports. Report manager is set to use port 800 (IIS is also on that machine running port 80).  When I attempt to connect to report manager, I get the following error, with a link to "Home" in report manager (which brings me back to the existing error page):    Unable to connect to the remote server  In the logfiles for reporting services, the following error is there: " System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server ---> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.   Any ideas? Windows Firewall is NOT running on this machine.   Thanks, Chrisrjp

Cannot connect to SSRS Report Manager

Hi,

I have recently installed SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer on my Windows 7 Pro PC. I installed a named instance called ARGENTOSQL. I want to connect to my Report Manager and have been following the instructions in the following article (which worked for me previously when doing the same thing on my laptop running Windows 7 Home and SQL Server 2008 Developer):

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb630430.aspx

Unfortunately, despite running Internet Explorer as Administrator, adding http://MyPC to trusted sites, navigating to the Report Manager URL http://MyPC:80/Reports_ARGENTOSQL, then (when prompted) entering my Windows user authentication (user account Ian - an administrator account on my local machine), I cannot shake the following error message displayed in the browser:

User 'Ian-HP\Ian' does not have required permissions. Verify that sufficient permissions have been granted and Windows User Account Control (UAC) restrictions have been addressed.

If there are any experts out there reading this who know what's causing this or can provide me with a list of things to check/do, I will be very grateful.  :-)

Ian.

Best Practice for connect SSRS Report Viewer Web part with custom filter web part (With Dropdown\Lis

To make a filter provider web part, I implemented the interface ITransformableFilterValues.
Implemented the various properties of the ITransformableFilterValues interface
and method that creates an instance of our filter provider.

[aspnetwebparts.ConnectionProvider("AccountFilter", "ITransformableFilterValues", AllowsMultipleConnections = true)]
public ITransformableFilterValues SetConnectionInterface()
{
return this;
}

Is this a best practice .Please share your suggestion.

SSMS - Connect to Server dialog box - server history not showing

Hi,

When I invoke SSMS, the "Connect to Sever" dialog box comes up.  Under the "Server Name" dropdown, it only displays a maximun of history entries (previously used connections/servers).  On other machines, it shows 10-15 previously used servers.

Does anyone know what I need to do or what needs to be configured on my machine to allow it to store my history entries?  If I connect to a new server, then one of the existing gets dropped off.  Just got tired of entering server names here...

Thank you very much.

How to connect to a SharePoint List using SSRS 2010 R2?

On MSDN it states that you simply need to add the SharePoint List URL to the data source.  There are no exapmle to be found anywhere so I can't see what I"m doing wrong.

My Data Source looks like this: http://servername/Lists/SharePoint.DateModelProvision-Li/AllItems.aspx

Reporting Services is set up in Native Mode.

When I try and create a data set I get a 404 Not Found error.

Thanks for any help

SSMS and SQLCMD won't connect to valid SQL Instances

I have had Windows 7 for over a year now and a few months ago I was unable to connect to any SQL Server.  It worked at one time and I don't recall changing anything other than normal Windows updates.  What's really strange about this problem is that It just hangs.  If I put a valid SQL server it will hang and never throw an error.  NEVER.  It hangs indefinately.  If I put an invalid SQL server it will error out as it should.  I have spent 80 hours on this by now and am ready to re-install the operating system to see if it helps.  These are the things I have tried:

  • Uninstalling and re-installing SSMS
  • Used OSQL and SQLCMD to no avail
  • Disabling the firewall
  • Pinging the servers directly.  And I get a response.
  • Used the IP address of the server instead of the name
  • Disabling port 1433 on the firewall
  • I can create an ODBC connection to these instances
  • Begging and pleading with the PC

SSRS Properties greyed out in SSMS on Windows 2008

Hi all,

Have installed SQL 2008 on Windows 2008 and have come across a strange issue.

When connecting to the Report Server cvia SSMS to enable "My Reports" (for example) the Report Server Properties are greyed out and we cannot alter them. This occurs when logged on both locally & remotely to the Win 2008 server.

Interestingly, we have another (XP Pro) box with SQL 2008 on it. If we connect to the Win 2008 SQL report server from the XP machine's SSMS, then we have full control and can access and change the report server properties on the Win 2008 server.

The relevant domain accounts are in the Admin group on the Win 2008 server and the XP Server so we are confused as to why we cannot edit the Win 2008 report server properties locally.

Any thoughts?

Hard-coded SSRS datasource not working in SSMS

Hi... Using Report Designer to design a report inside SSMS..

Server A contains a database of database growth statistics for all servers...
I have a SSRS report to present this data, using a datasource of "Server A."

In preview mode, report works against all servers and database combinations.

But when I use the report in SSMS (I right-click database and select Custom Report).,
1. Running the report against a database on Server A works fine.
2. Any database on Servers B and C report they cannot find the stats database.

My report's local datasource specifically references Server A at design-time, but tracing reveals at run-time it looks to itself for the stats database.

How can I prevent a datasource from deviating from where I specified?

InfoPath 2010 cannot connect to SharePoint 2010

You have installed Office 2010 beta and you are trying to connect to SharePoint 2010 from InfoPath but you get an error

could somebody give me example how I can connect to database only once if I use many models in contr

I use in my ASP.NET MVC application repository pattern and I use in controller for example 3 models:

   namespace MvcApplication1.Controllers
   {
        public class HomepageController : Controller
        {
            private IWebsitesRepository _repository_websites = new WebsitesRepository();
            private IFirmRepository _repository_firm = new FirmRepository();
            private IPhotosRepository _repository_photos = new PhotosRepository();

           ...............
       }
   }

In WebsiteRepozitory, FirmRepository and PhotosRepository classes I have:

Database1Entities _entities = new Database1Entities();

So I have 3 connections to database ? Is it wrong ? How can I solve it ?
