I would open the GPU vs WPF issue again. First I have to specify I develop 2d application only, using, sometimes, custom pixelshaders.
As most of us knows, many graphic cards or integrated graphic chipset are declared completely compatible for WPF usage since they support
DX 9 or better and they support the famous rendering tier 2. Supporting rendering tier 2 means that most of rendering activities are off-loaded to GPU, as I understand. Fine! But I see that if I manipulate a 1000*1000px graphic element It could be demanding
for the GPU, in some cases more then real CPU usage. Infact, most of the time I develop applications that do not use the cpu but look almost slow...
Considering that an integrated intel graphic chipset (accelerated, of course) support rendering tier 2, is it the same of using nvidia ion
or a Radeon™ HD 5970?! As a consumer I could say it is hard to understand 2d performance of a hardware platform since producers using only 3D features to benchmark their products.
What do you think?
