Bind control to results from thread

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 15, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Windows Application
Hello,  I can't find best practice to my issue, I will appreciate any help from you – Please let me know what you think about it:  My application request data by threads. Each thread have those events: OnStarting – Fires just before the thread start its job. OnFound – Can be fire more than one for each thread. The result from thread can be received here OnFinish - Fires just after the job finish.  The scenario is something like that: Let's say I have WinForm contains RadioButton for "Search Type" and Button for "Start Search". The user choose the search type and press on "Start Search". According the search type the form knows to place new control like Grid or TextBox on the form. The result from thread (The thread do the searching job) should display in the appropriate control which opened for this specific search.  My question: What is the best practice to bind control to the result from thread ?   Options: 1.     Save Key=Value list for Thread=Control 2.     Create MyGrid / MyTextBox with even OnFill. The application will use OnFill as callback in the threads. 3.     Any other suggestion will be very welcome.   Thanks in advance !

Is it best to use Eval or Bind in a databound control?

I have a repeater I've databound with a generic arraylist from a LINQ query (.ToList() )  in the code behind.  I was using   <%# Bind("FirstName")%> but noticed  <%# Eval("FirstName")%> works just as well.    Is it better to use Eval or Bind?  or does it depend on the situation?

InvalidCastException when calling JavaScript from C# control using a second thread.

Original Issue: I need to be able to call functions in the JavaScript of an HTML page (not ASP.NET) from a C# object embedded in that page.  The c# object has to be .NET 2 level. So I created a C# DLL assembly in VS 2010 which contains a class called NoUIControlClass. set the target framework to .NET 2.0 and made sure to check "Make assembly COM-Visible".  I also signed the assembly so it would have a strong name so I could install it in the GAC.  So far so good. Here is the batch file I run after the project is built to register the control and place it into the GAC: copy "C:\Users\x\Documents\Visual Studio 2010\Projects\NoUIControl\NoUIControl\bin\Debug\NoUIControl.dll" C:\Exploration\NoUIControl C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\regasm NoUIControl.dll /unregister C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\regasm NoUIControl.dll NoUIControl.dll C:\"Program Files (x86)"\"Microsoft SDKs"\Windows\v7.0A\Bin\gacutil.exe /u NoUIControl.dll C:\"Program Files (x86)"\"Microsoft SDKs"\Windows\v7.0A\Bin\gacutil.exe /i NoUIControl.dll This works and all is good.  Next I've turned the security level in IE all the way down for intranet and trusted sites.  Just to make sure that doesn't get in the way.  Here is the HTML file I serve from the web server. <html> <head

MVVM: How to bind a page in a tab control with a viewmodel?

We practise MVVM pattern.
We have a main window which contains tab controls. Each tabItem contains a page.
Since the main window needs to share some data with one of page, so our MainWindowViewModel creates the instance a RunconditionViewModel.
Then we need to set the instance of RunconditionViewModel to one of page's DataContent (page called ControlPage.xaml).
How do we achieve that? see the code below.

In HDMainWindow.xaml,
<TabControl x:Name="tabControlMain" DockPanel.Dock="Left" MinHeight="200"  SelectedIndex="0" TabStripPlacement="Left" >
<TabItem Header="Run" Name="TabItemControlPage"> <Frame Name="FrameControlPage" Source="Features\Basic Control\ControlPage.xaml"></Frame> <!--<Frame Source="Features\Basic Control\LoginPage.xaml"></Frame>--> </TabItem> in App.xaml.cs,

protected override void OnStartup(StartupEventArgs e) { base.OnStartup(e); InitializeComponent(); HDMainWindow hd = new HDMainWindow(); HDMainWindowViewModel hwd = new HDMainWindowViewModel(); hd.DataContext = hwd; //if (hd.TabItemControlPage != null) // hd.TabItemControlPage.DataContext = hwd.RunConditionsViewModel; if (hd.FrameControl

Cross-Thread Exception at a WinForms control hosted by the WindowsFormsHost in WPF

I have a WPF Application and inside hosted existing WinForms controls.

In WPF i'm using the 'Dispatcher' with the 'CheckAccess' method to check if invoke is required, in my old WinForms controls i use 'InvokeRequired'.

The problem is, that if one of the WinForms controls gets created but not yet shown (drawn) and the application gets to the line, where it has to invoke, the InvokeRequired property returns 'false' even the code is not running under the Main Thread and so it resumes in a Cross-Thread exception.

The strange thing is, that it works fine, when the control gets visible (drawn) before changing it (in my case by switching to the specific tabpage).

For me it seems as if the 'InvokeRequired' property doesn't work reliable when the WinForms control gets hostet by WPF.

It would be great, if someone has experience with this issue and could help me!

Bind a user control to another control

I Have a usercontrol that has a label, the content property of the label I would like to be bound from a slider in the MainWindow class, would this be done by a delegate and event or is there a binding I can apply to it in XAML?

TIA Mike

Is Dispatcher.BeginInvoke really NOT thread safe, while the old System.Windows.Forms.Control.BeginIn

System.Windows.Forms.Control.BeginInvoke is documented as thread safe (in fact, BeginInvoke , EndInvoke , Invoke , InvokeRequired , and CreateGraphics are).

But in WPF, Dispatcher.BeginInvoke is not documented as thread safe. Which would appear to me as a regression (and not really convenient, to be honest).

Was it only forgotten in MSDN documentation, or should I really use external locking to prevent the dispatcher to get lost in its messages and priorities?

Thanks. ;)

Unable to drag data source to control to bind

I have a simple test application following the directions from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd465159.aspx .  When I attempt to drag the data source onto the design surface I get the following error:

Cannot add the control to the design surface or bind to the control because the type TestApp.AdventureWorksEntities cannot be resolved.  Please try to build the project or add necessary assembly references.

The project as been built and the data source is in the same namespace.  I did a search for this error and the only hit I found was here, and mentioned Tools->Options->Extension Manager, 'Load per use extensions...'.  This option is checked.  I've tried unchecking and restarted with the same behavior.

Any ideas?

Datagrid view control producing duplicate data results when data is cached

I have a datagridview control that I'm using to display cache data to the end used on a web form. The issue that I'm having is that every time I re-run the application, and the cache data is re-generated... it loads duplicate data that's being displayed to the end user. I can't seem to figure out how to keep this from happening.

What I would like to have happen is that only unique data rows be returned and cached for the end user. Unless there are new data rows on the database that needs to be included in the cache data results...the previous data results should not be duplicated. I've tried to change a few properties on the datagridview control, but nothing seem to keep this from happening. I have included a copy of my code below. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

' Code that is used to cache data that's returned from database

Protected Sub PopulateNewhardwareSetInfo()

   Dim conn As SqlConnection = New SqlConnection(m_connectionString)

   Dim cmd As SqlCommand = New SqlCommand("Select * from HardwareSet", conn)

   Dim sqlDA As SqlDataAdapter = New SqlDataAdapter(cmd)

   sqlDA.FillSchema(m_ItrackerData, SchemaType.Source, "HardwareSet")

How to bind 2 binds, within one control

I currently have two label controls with two bindings:

<asp:Label ID="Label_CompetitionDate" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("Competition_DateFrom", "{0:d-MMM-yy}") %>' />&nbsp;&nbsp;:&nbsp;
                                    <asp:Label ID="Label_CompetitionType" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("CompetitionType_Value") %>' />

<asp:Label ID="Label_CompetitionDate" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("Competition_DateFrom", "{0:d-MMM-yy}") %>' />
<asp:Label ID="Label_CompetitionType" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("CompetitionType_Value") %>' />

What I'd like to do is bind the two values using one label. The reason being, I'd like to use this data in a HyperLink control and would like one link, not two, to the same content.

Many thanks
