Custom Server Control Property not maintaining state

I have created a server control consisting of a TextArea and a div under it.  My goal is to create my own asp:TextArea type control.  the div is for a Character count of the text area and seems to work ok but i added a CharacterCountVisible property to the control that is always returning true.  See Proptery definition below

<Bindable(False), Category("Appearance"), DefaultValue("True"), Localizable(True)> Property CharacterCountVisible() As Boolean
        Return _CountBoxVisible
    End Get
    Set(ByVal value As Boolean)
        _CountBoxVisible = value
    End Set
End Property

Note the _CountBoxVisible variable is define inside the class as :

Dim _CountBoxVisible as Boolean = True

What I am trying to do is give the user/coder the option to show/utilize the char count feature.  Can make it disappear with textarea1.CharacterCountVisible = False but setting it to true will not make it display.

What am i missing

Server Control - Implement Postback

Hi all,

I am writing a server control and need to implement postback. It is a simple calendar control - it renders a textbox and a button using the override of RenderContents which pops up a asp:Calendar control in a new window (written separately to the control) which sets the value of the textbox with javascript.

I just want the TextBox to keep it's value on postback. I inherit from WebControl rather than from TextBox as I thought it would be nice to have a greater level of control but if inheriting from TextBox is better practice I'd be interested instead for guidance on how to add to the render rather than overwrite it altogether (to add a button).

I'm not in the habit of writing such general questions but what I haven't been able to find is some decent resources to put me on the right path.

I've been looking at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa720415(v=VS.71).aspx but can't get it working (I think I've implemented everything they say in the article, other than that I am using a different render method, but it doesn't change anything).

Does anyone have any simple examples or resources they could point me at to help?

Thanks in advance,

Custom server control Books and URLs

Hi all,
I am new to custom server control. I want to create my own grid like custom server control for my project. Please suggest me some good books and urls.

CollapsiblePanelExtender within custom server control

I am trying to use a collapsible panel extender within a custom server control.  I've used the extender elsewhere with no issues but when I try to add the control to  my panels collection of controls in my custom control, my page crashes.  Take it out and no error.  I'm adding other controls to the panel...literals, labels, etc.  This, however is the only ajax control I am using.  Is there something I need to do as far as registering the extender with the script manager (on the master page)?  Thanks....Brad

client side functionality in a custom server control using vb?

is it posible to add client side functionality to a custom server control in vb.net?

i am looking at msdn library and there is no code for vb :/ http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa719700%28v=VS.71%29.aspx

I fount this on MSDN Library Adding Client Capabilities to a Web Server Control

What i'm trying to do is to add some client functionality to my control, so that you can get or set some properties/values on client side. From the above link i see  that this is doable with Ajax Server Control, but i don't have it, i have Custom Server Control. Can i do this with Custom Server Control and how?

Thank you.

Embedded Javascript File in Custom Server Control

I am creating a custom server control, and I am wanting to include a JavaScript file in the dll file when the control is built. I have tried suggestions from the following websites:

But after following the directions, If I use firebug to see what errors show up, the JavaScript functions that are being called all say "goNext is not defined" which leads me to believe the JavaScript file is not being added correctly.

Some information on what my control looks like

I have the JavaScript File in a folder called Script. The namespace of the project is CustomControl, and the Name of the project is MaskedDateTextbox.

In my AssemblyInfo I have the following:

ssis deployment issue - Unable to load custom dll - due to change in Sql server installation

Hello all

I had a strange issue in testing my package, after it was deployed to a Test server.

The details of the server

Sql 2005 is installed, in the D:\ drive

I have used a package, where i use a custom DLL to read values. Hence, i added that DLL to the GAC. I was in the assumption that this should complete my proceess of deploying this package.

However once i executed the package, i got an error - Could not load the Helper object.

Unable to CAST "system.object"  to namaspace.class.Helper.

I reviewed the setting on my macihine, since as part of development inorder to reference the dll i added this to the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\SDK\Assemblies location so that i can reference this from BIDS. I checked that location in my test server, i was not present. This location was present in the D: drive ( i assume this was present since i installed my complete SQL Server in the D:\ ). I copied the dLL in that location and added it to GAC from that location. My package still failed with the same error.

To resolve this issue, i created the same path in the C:\ folder as C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\SDK\Assemblies

assemblies was newly created in C: and i added the dll to GAC from there. Now my package worked.
