Database design for treeview and content

How can I estimate overall size of blob data?

Is it possible to use an SQL backup from a sharepoint Version 2 SP3 database to restore the content on a new server farm and attach to a new web applicaiton. NOTE: This is WSS 2.0. In WSS 3.0 this is a very simple task, but it is not the same in WSS 2.0 (the add content database option CANNOT be used to attach to an existing content database like it does in WSS 3.0). The options I have found appear to say you need the configuration database from the old server then it can be done. I am migrating from an outsourced deployment, so I do not have access to that. Plan B is to do a sharepoint STSADM backup. THis seems to be a more likey way to do it.

Guys, This is the farm configuration: 1. SQL Server 2005 back end server 2. WSS 3.0 / MOSS 2007 WFE Server 3. WSS 3.0 / MOSS 2007 Index/WFE Server All servers are showing the version: 12.0.0.6327 in 'Servers in Farm' in C.A. When attempting to add a new content database, the following error is thrown in the web UI: The specified SPConfigurationDatabase Name=SharePoint_Config-New Parent=SPDatabaseServiceInstance has been upgraded to a newer version of SharePoint. Please upgrade this SharePoint application server before attempting to access this object. Furthermore the following is posted to the application event log on the WFE hosting central admin: Database 'SharePoint_Config-New' on SQL Server instance 'XXXXXXXX' is not empty and does not match current database schema. There is nothing of further interest in the trace log, just the same error as above. No errors on the SQL server either. Also no updates have been installed, and content databases HAVE been created since the last updates were installed 2 years ago. Can anyone suggest anything before I raise a call with MS?  I have constructed a simple database schema with one vendor.now i would like to add multiple vendors who can/may provide similar products. so i am looking for a design that lists products,there attributes and can be filtered on respective Product Sizes,Brand,Colour easily.    

Hi,   Setps I did.... 1. Created Site collection with url http://server.80/Site1 2. taken the back up of dev server site collection and trying to restore with this new site collection 3. But, i restored in http://server.80/ How to get the content databse back up of http://server.80/  Pls its very urgent......................   Thanks in Adv..................

  I just made an experiment: created new web app created new site collection put there a doclib1 with 5 Gb of pdf documents checked size of content db in sql studio - it was 5.5 Gb with 300 Mb available (free, but reserved space, that can be redeemed with shrink operation) Then i deleted doclib1 Then i cleaned recycle bin (2 level), so on this stage the data is totally deleted on site level with no restoration options Checked the db - 5.5 Gb (which is normal) with 800 Mb available. Why 800 Mb and not 5 Gb ? Why i can redeem only 500 Mb in the end ? Are sharepoint content dbs are even made for redeeming space after some of its contents are deleted ?

Hi all, I'm having this problem.... Scenario: C# 2010, WPF, SQL Compact 3.5 SP2. I'm working at a wpf window which loads records from a SQL Compact DB and shows data in textboxes. At runtime everything works perfectly but since this morning (working on it last 2 days) i'm not able to edit the window at DesignTime. As soon as I open the window with the wpf editor I got the error (translating from Italian): "Impossible to find the database. Check the database path. [Data Source = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE\thedbfile.sdf]" Now, in settings and app.config I have the connection string which is something like Data Source=|DataDirectory|\thedbfile.sdf I don't understand why and where NOW (only since this afternoon) at Design Time VS look that path for the database, while at RunTime it's ok. Again, I'm using Datasets, and I can preview data, ecc., as said everything is ok except the edit of the window which crash with this error.... thanks

is there a guideline for better performance for system database data location log location, like tempdb location etc. also better location for user databases/data and log.

Hi All, Problem i have taken backup of Old site content database procedure see below 1) first i changed the database to read only mode (Opened SQL Server2005-->selected DB--> properties--> Option-->Database Read-Only=True) 2) taken backup of database from the task--Backup(new.bak) 3) Copied the taken backup to new server and restored (Opened SQL Server2005 --> Right Click on Database Folder--> Restore Dataase) In To database: ihave given DB name From Device: i have selected database from the location where i have saved. click ok.  It has restored successfully 4) I have created a new webapplication and removed its content database from central admin. 5) with the help of stsadm command i restored the above db to this webapplication. then iam getting below error: HTTP/1.1 404 Connection: close Date: Tue, 14 Sep 2010 06:20:08 GMT Server: Microsoft-IIS/6.0 X-Powered-By: ASP.NET MicrosoftSharePointTeamServices: 12.0.0.6421 i have refered the below url for restoring http://metahat.blogspot.com/2008/11/backup-restoring-sharepoint-2007-site.html Please help. Currently i doing dental appointment website for my lessons, and i having problem in database design. The major of the database is for appointment booking and view information.

The flow

Admin doing the registration for patient, admin, dentist.

Patient login > view dentist > view appointment > make appointment   or view treatment comment

Dentist login > insert patient treatment comment   /   view appointment

Admin > view appointment > Delete appointment and others stuff like report

While creating the dental user table, should i include the dentist into dental user table?Should i create 1 more table for registration ?

I having problem in linking all the table ..Kindly if you could help me in giving suggestion / ideas. Thank you.
