User Defined Functions in Microsoft SQL Server

User Defined Functions are compact pieces of Transact SQL code, which can accept parameters, and return either a value, or a table. They are saved as individual work units, and are created using standard SQL commands. Data transformation and reference value retrieval are common uses for functions. LEFT, the built in function for getting the left part of a string, and GETDATE, used for obtaining the current date and time, are two examples of function use. User Defined Functions enable the developer or DBA to create functions of their own, and save them inside SQL Server.

This is frustrating, and I don't know how to solve it.

I have a strange problem. I am adding a LinqDatasource object, and set the context:

        protected void LinqDataSource_ContextCreating(object sender, LinqDataSourceContextEventArgs e)
            e.ObjectInstance = new KaruselaDataContext(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["ConnectionString"].ConnectionString);

Then I get this error:
The type 'System.Data.Linq.DataContext' is defined in an assembly that is not referenced. You must add a reference to assembly 'System.Data.Linq, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089'.

On web.config I already have this:
<add assembly="System.Data.Linq, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089"/>

NOTE: The datacontext is in a different project (DLL proect) where I added a refernce to System.Data.Linq.

is there another way adding a refernce to a web project? or only though teh web.config?

Composite Control which contains arbitrary content defined in .aspx of parent and thier ViewState

I want to write own control which can contain other. And I want to define content of the control in the .aspx file where the control is defined. I have written such control. But now I have issue with ViewState of inner controls of my control. The following samle illustrates the issue: I defined two asp:DropDownList ID="ddl1" and ID="ddl2" One of them is inside of my control and other is outside. When posback is occurred asp:DropDownList ID="ddl1 loses state and becomes empty. How to say ASP.net to store state of inner controls defined by this way?

"Type ASP.x is not defined" error for dynamic user control when publishing updateable

I have a user control (ContainerCtrl) which programmatically instantiates another user control (SimpleCtrl) in OnLoad. It builds and runs fine, but when I publish it I get the error "error BC30002: Type 'ASP.SimpleCtrl' is not defined." (If I publish without the "updateable" option there's no error, but I need the site to be updateable.)

I assume this has to do with the particulars of how the assembly(ies) are built for the different compiler options. My question is, how can I get it to work properly for "updateable" publishing?

OleDBException: Too many fields defined

I'm trying to import an Excel file into a datatable.  It works fine most of the time.  However, I get this error when there are more than 255 columns in the Excel file.  The columns are empty (after about 6 or so), but since they've been formatted it sees them anyway.

My question is, is there any way around this?  Can I limit the amount of columns somehow?  Unfortunately, I can't just remove the columns in the Excel document, as this is being designed for users to upload documents, so I have to account for this possibility (even though most of the time there will be maximum 20 columns).

Here is the code I'm using:

                connectionString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" + _filePath + ";Extended Properties=""Excel 8.0;HDR=No;IMEX=1"";"

                    Dim da As New OleDbDataAdapter(cmd)

                End Try

Creating a table-valued function on a user defined type in SQL Server CLR

We would like to be able to create a table-valued function on a user defined type.  We would like the syntax in SQL to look like it works for the XML nodes function:   DECLARE @myXml XML = '<a><b>1</b><b>2</b><b>3</b></a>' ; SELECT  node.query('text()') FROM    @myXml.nodes('a/b') nodes (node) ;   In other words, in the FROM clause, we can access the "nodes" method of the xml variable and it returns a rowset. Thanks!

I have 3 triggers defined on an sqlserver2008 table and I can't find them with c#

I've got the code below and when I run it, it always says there are 0 triggers in table.Triggers.  I added some debugging code checkin the table.HasDeleteTrigger, etc. and from that, I get the exception: "To accomplish this action, set property HasDeleteTrigger." when I try to set it to bool hasDeleteTrigger. I can get stored procedures find, just not triggers. Below is my problem code: foreach (Database database in databaseCollection) { if (database.Name.Equals(catalogName)) { // first we need to delete triggers associated with all tables that begin // with our prefix. we can skip our the framework tables because those // don't have triggers on them // grab all tables, filter for non prefixed ones in foreach loop so we can delete triggers from non prefixed ones results.AddRange(from Table table in database.Tables select table.Name); foreach (var tableName in results) { var table = new Table(database, tableName, CrSyncDbSchemaName); table.Refresh(); bool hasDeleteTrigger = table.HasDeleteTrigger; bool hasAfterTrigger = table.HasAfterTrigger; bool hasInsertTrigger = table.HasInsertTrigger;

Sign outgoing body from client with custom endpoing behavior defined in code

I'm trying to sign (and sign only) the body of every outgoing message that uses this custom endpoint behavior.  When I first created this it was for signing a custom SOAP header.  We are moving away from that and going to just sign the body.  We have some applications that have 10+ web service references.  We don't want to touch the reference.cs for anything.  Below is the code I had before for signing the custom soap header.  I'm trying to modify it to just sign the body.  My modified code is below, and the error I get. Private Class CustomHeaderBehavior Implements ServiceModel.Description.IEndpointBehavior Public Sub New() End Sub Private Sub AddBindingParameters( _ ByVal endpoint As ServiceModel.Description.ServiceEndpoint, _ ByVal bindingParameters As ServiceModel.Channels.BindingParameterCollection) _ Implements ServiceModel.Description.IEndpointBehavior.AddBindingParameters Dim body As New Xml.XmlQualifiedName("Body", "http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/") Dim BodyMsgPartSpec As New ServiceModel.Security.MessagePartSpecification() BodyMsgPartSpec.IsBodyIncluded = True Dim requirements As ServiceModel.Security.ChannelProtectionRequirements = bindingParameters.Remove(Of ServiceModel.Security.ChannelProtectionRequirements)() requirements

The service cannot be started. This service has no endpoint defined....But it has!?!

Hi Foks,I'm following this tutorial on how to create RESTful services in WCF:http://www.codemeit.com/wcf/wcf-restful-pox-json-and-soap-coexist.htmlI would like to test the created service using the WCF Default Test Client, but when I run the application (F5) the service does not start and I get this message:"The service cannot be started. This service has no endpoint defined. Please add at least one endpoint for the service in config file and try again."However I do have endpoints defined for this service..I also have two other services running in the same application, which work fine:This is the relevant portion of my app.config:<behaviors>              <serviceBehaviors>                        <behavior name="WCF_Lib_Default.Service1Behavior">                   <serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="True"/>                   <serviceDebug includeExceptionDetailInFaults="False" />             &nbs

Best practice for user defined error messages in SQL Server 2005/2008 --Need help

My requirement is to setup a standard practice for our team in handling DB erros and also  user defined messages. We are handling exceptions using Raiseerror method with in Try and Catch blocks.  For user defined message, we are using Sp_addmessage to add our application specific error/warning messages with error codess>80000.  Ex: 80001 | Company name already exists. please check. Here is the sample code ********************************************************************* CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[usp_CompanyProfile_insert]  -- Add the parameters for the stored procedure here  (@company_name VARCHAR(50),  @company_code VARCHAR(3),  @user_id INT  ) AS BEGIN  -- SET NOCOUNT ON added to prevent extra result sets from  -- interfering with SELECT statements.  SET NOCOUNT ON;  BEGIN TRY -- Begin Try Block      -- Validate company name   IF EXISTS (SELECT company_id FROM companyprofile WHERE company_name = @company_name)    RAISERROR(90021, 16, 1)      INSERT INTO companyprofile (company_name,       company_code,       createdby)   VALUES(@company_name,     @company_code,     @user_id)    END TRY  -- End Try Block &
