dropdownlist filter listview

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 15, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net
I want to filter the table in my Listview (mvc2) using values from a dropdownlist shown at the top of the page. The values in the list are hard coded. Next to the dropdownlist I got a "Filter" button that calls the filter method on the controller   How can I pass the selected value from the list to the controller? for now I'm using a classic asp:dropdownlist<form runat="server" method="post"> <asp:DropDownList ID="dropdownlist1" runat="server"> <asp:ListItem>Item1</asp:ListItem> <asp:ListItem>Item2</asp:ListItem> <asp:ListItem>Item3</asp:ListItem> </asp:DropDownList> <input type="submit" value="Filter" onclick="this.form.action='/Home/Filter'" />   thank you

Dropdownlist in ListView

I have a transaction table with a field called product. There is a limited number of choices for product so I also have a product table. I am showing the transactions in a ListView with a dropdownlist for Product. The field Product can be blank (all works well then). The user can leave the field blank or they can choose from the dropdownlist. I am running into a problem with the dropdownlist in the Edit Template. No matter what the product is in the transaction file, I get a page error of "ddlEditProduct has a SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items". I have verified the product does exist in the product table.

My markup is:

<asp:DropDownList ID="ddlEditProduct" runat="server"
SelectedValue='<%# Bind("Product") %>' >
<asp:ListItem Selected="True"></asp:ListItem>

The only way i have gotten anything close to working is by removinf the % from both the filter and the default value.   here is relevant code   <asp:DropDownList ID="ddlShipDate" AutoPostBack="true" runat="server" Height="16px" Width="75px" DataSourceID="adsPopulateShipDate" DataTextField="dShipDate" DataTextFormatString="{0:MM/dd/yyyy}" DataValueField="dShipDate"> <asp:ListItem Text="All" Value="%"></asp:ListItem> </asp:DropDownList> Pleas enote i removed the append databound items=true<asp:AccessDataSource ID="AccessDataSource1" runat="server" DataFile="~/App_Data/JAGENT.mdb" SelectCommand="SELECT [cPronumber], [cCustomerRef], [dShipDate], [cOrigCity], [cOrigState], [dDeliveryDate], [cDestCity], [cDestState] FROM [BillingHistory] WHERE ([cCust

Filter a Listview

Hi, I have a listview with a paging control. All works fine but I added a dropdowncontrol to be used as filter. The dropdown has a distinct query to show type user profile (male/female/kid/unisex). I add a listitem "select" using prerender. prerender:Protected Sub DropDownList1_PreRender(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles DropDownList1.PreRender If (DropDownList1.Items.Count > 0) Then If (DropDownList1.Items(0).Text <> "All") Then DropDownList1.Items.Insert(0, New ListItem("All", "")) End If End If End Sub  Protected Sub DropDownList1_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles DropDownList1.SelectedIndexChanged ListView1.DataSource = SqlDataSource3 ListView1.DataBind() End Sub and sqldatasource3:<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource3" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:MyShopConnString %>" SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM [vw_Product] WHERE (([Cat] = @Cat) AND ([gebruiker] = @gebruiker) and visible=1)"> <SelectParameters> <asp:QueryStringParameter Name="Cat" QueryStringField="Category" Type="String" />

DISCLAIMER: I am very new to asp.net

I am working on a webform that allows users to access information from a database of algae species.  I have a drop down list of all algae genera for the user to chose from.  I would also like to have a check box that would allow the user to filter the drop down list so that it only shows diatom genera (diatoms are a type of algae).

Below is code that I thought should work, however checking the checkbox seems to have no effect :(

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

<script runat="server">
    Sub Page_Load()
        If chkDiatoms.Checked Then
            dsGenusList.FilterExpression = "is_diatom = 1"
            dsGenusList.FilterExpression = ""
        End If
    End Sub

<form runat="server">
<asp:CheckBox id="chkDiatoms" text="Diatoms Only" runat="server" AutoPostBack="True"/> <br>
<asp:DropDownList ID="ddlGenus" runat="server" dataSourceID="dsGenusList" dataTextField="genus"> </asp:DropDownList>

Filter dropdownlist based on previous selection

In my newform.aspx page in Helpdesk template (when I create a new service request), I have added a dropdownlist (lookup type) that list series of issues that user can select.

I would like to add another dropdownlist that further give more options based on the selection made on the first dropdownlist.

How can I drive this second list from the first one? Thanks.

Paging not working with two controls- Dropdownlist & Listview

So I am using EW + Access database to create a page.

This page contains two controls. First control is Dropdownlist which databinds with second control Listview.

This listview has paging on becuse of multiple pages. If I don't use QueryStringField paging works but if I use QueryStringField paging doesn't work and it goes back to first option of Dropdownlist.

I need paging to access specific records.

Can anybody help me with this issue.

Thx in advance!!

Dropdownlist in ASP.Net 4.0 and ListView

 I had the following working in 3.5 but seems to be very different in 4.0.  Very simply I want to select the Value from a dropdownlist (description for the list is displayed) and then update the field in the table with the value (key - programming 101).

In my InsertItemTemplate section I added a dropdownlist instead of the defualt Textbox. In 3.5, I could just perform a databind on dropdownlist.Selected value.  I notice two things in 4.0 that are different:

1.  I define my dropdownlist (it's static so it is hardcoded) in the InsertItemTemplate but it is not defined in the code behind file (does not show up in intellisense either).

2.  If I define the dropdown outside the Listview COntrol (just for experimental sake), the dropdownlist does up but does not have the propert of Selectedvalue - a propert that cleary showed up in 3.5 which I used databind on - does not show up on the property list anymore.

Does anybody know how do perform such a basic function in 4.0?  Many thanks in advance.

ASP.NET 3.5 ListView with DropDownList in InsertItemTemplate

I tried to place a DropDownList in the InsertItemTemplate of a ListView, which is bound to a (LINQ) data source. Let's say the ListView shows countries and the DropDownList lists the continents.

The intuitional attempt was the following:

    <tr style="">
            <asp:TextBox ID="NameTextBox" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("Name") %>' />
            <asp:DropDownList ID="ddlContinent" runat="server"
               SelectedValue='<%# Bind("ContinentId&qu

Populates DropDownList in Listview

Hello There,

How can I populate a dropdownlist in an InsertItemTemplate in a ListView when it depends on another dropdownlist

i.e. First DropDownList has a list of continents, once this one is selected DropDownList2 should be populated with

the countries of the selected continent.

Mind, of course both DropDownLists are inside  the same InsertItemTemplate.

Filter a ReadOnlyCollection for binding a ListView

I have a ReadOnlyCollection<myobject> being generated in my business layer. I want to bind a ListView to it, but only show elements that have myobject.myvar = true. How can I do this?

Using a DropDownList within a ListView

I know how to bind a DropDownList to its own datasource, however I'm in a situation where the DDL doesn't need to be populated via a datasource (see below). However, I can't figure out how to select the value in the DDL based on the value of the item that the DDL appears in. In other words, if the value of the column 'Status' is '1', how do I select that specific value? Its it there a property of the DDL that I need to set or do I need to select the value via code behind using one of the ListViews events?

                            <asp:DropDownList ID="DropDownListStatus" runat="server" class="GenericControl" AutoPostBack="false" Width="100"
                                <asp:ListItem Value="0" Text="Not Completed" Selected="True" />
                                <asp:ListItem Value="1" Text="In Progress" />
                                <asp:ListItem Value="2" Text="Completed" />

Using ASP.NET 3.5's ListView and DataPager Controls: Displaying Data with the ListView

Prior to ASP.NET 3.5, developers who needed to display a set of records could choose between the GridView, DataList, and Repeater controls. The GridView provides rich data features, but has a very boxy layout; the DataList and Repeater allow for a more flexible layout, but lack the "point and click" data features found in the GridView, DetailsView, and FormView controls. The ListView bridges the gap between layout flexibility and built-in data features.

This article, the first in a series of articles on the ListView and DataPager controls, looks at the ListView's many available templates and illustrates how to display data. Read on to learn more!

jQuery: Styling DropDownList Alternating Items (Rows)

In the following example, I will show how you can style any asp:dropdownlist very easily.

The example demonstrates how you can change alternating row items background color, using the fadeTo() to add a nice touch in the dropdownlist. You can change alt rows with a couple lines.

Using jQuery to Filter Table Rows

The project is using the .net GridView control, so I had limited control over the output HTML code. Still, I think this code can work for most tables. One thing to notice: you should use the class "filterable" on your table or on one of its parents for the code to work.
First, we need a text box:

GridView Multiple Filter AJAX Control

This AJAX control enables the user to filter data within any column inside a GridView. The user can add multiple filters and can delete existing ones too.
