SQL 2005 native driver and IDENTITY_INSERT

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 14, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
Greetings, We have a VB6 program using ODBC to  execute a couple of simple statements that turns the IDENTITY_INSERT ON for a table, inserts data, then turns IDENTITY_INSERT OFF. The code has executed without problems using the SQL Server driver that comes with Windows 2000/XP.  However when we set up an ODBC connection using SQL Server 2005 Native Driver, the IDENTITY_INSERT ON executes without error but the insert statement crashes with the error "Cannot insert explicit value for identity column in table 'TableName' when IDENTITY_INSERT is set to OFF" Does the SQL Server 2005 Native Driver handle this command differently?  And if so how can we get it to execute correctly?

How do I install SQL Server 2005 JDBC driver

I'm an new bie to "SQL Server 2005 JDBC Driver". I have downloaded SQL Server 2005 JDBC driver and extracted it to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server 2005 JDBC Driver\. Is the installation complete now? How can I use this driver from my application? If there is a step-by-step instruction on whether we need to run some scripts in SQL Server or to configure some system variables, it would be great. Thanks in advance for your time in this.Cheeeeerrzzzz! S@kthi http://blogs.msdn.com/sqlsakthi | http://twitter.com/PowerSakthi Mark as Answer if it helps. Microsoft SQL Server 2005 JDBC Driver

I'm getting the following exception when attempting to connect to SQL Server 2005 using Microsoft's new JDBC driver: com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: The TCP/IP connection to the host  has failed. java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect The help docs suggest checking connectivity using telnet. So attempting to connect via telnet to generates: Could not open connection to the host, on port 23: Connect failed. So I try to start telnet: net start telnet I get the following error message: The service cannot be started either because it is disabled or because it has no enables devices associated with it. Can anyone help? Thanks

Recommend the best JDBC driver and version to connect to SQL server 2005 sp2

SQL version details:Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.3050.00 (Intel X86) Standard Edition on Windows NT 5.2 (Build 3790: Service Pack 2) on a clustered server.

Are there any issues using:

JDBC driver: Microsoft SQL Server JDBC Driver 3.0.
JBOSS: JBoss 4.2.3 with JDK 6 ?

SQL Native Client for 2005

I need to have on some clients the SQL Native Client driver for ODBC links. I remember that it is downloadable as a free install. Where can I find this download, please? Do I download the driver with the same service pack respect of the SQL Server on the db server? If SQL Server is to 64 bit, do I download SQL Native client to 64 bit?

MSSQL 2005 JDBC driver multiple select statements in stored procedure

we have a stored procedure with multiple select in it.

Select a,b,c from table1

Select f,g,h  from table2

Select j,k,l  from table3

Sometimes select no 2 will not return any values.

when this happens  we get only 2 result sets using CallableStatement getMoreResults method.

it seems that if a select  doesn't return something it will  not have a corresponding resultset.

On 2000 (driver + server) version we got an empty resultset for this situation.

Is there  any  way to have the same behaivor with 2005 ?   We tryed with 1.2 and 2.0 jdbc driver.

SQL Server 2005 Try and Catch Exception Handling

I'm pretty excited to see that there is some real error handling for T-SQL code in SQL Server 2005. It's pretty painful to have your wonderfully architected .NET solution tainted by less-than-VBScript error handling for stored procedures in the database. The big difference being the addition of TRY..CATCH blocks. Let's take a look:

I have the a question am going about his correctly I have a database for categories, it has many fields and about 4000 records,  but with a Jquery autocomplete needing speed and the fact that I only need to return a key and category name. I did the following:  (oh just to note, MVC2, Ajax project)

            var getcat = storedb.Categories.ToList();

            foreach (var item in getcat)
                category.Add(new categorySearch { Category_GUID = item.Cat_GUID, Category_Name = item.Category_Name});

var result = from c in category

connection to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL server express 2005 to function properly.

I dont have the SQL EXPRESS installed instead I have SQL Standard Edition.

I have two SQL Server instances installed.

1- UserLT (this is sql 2000)
2- UserLT\SQL2005 (this is SQL 2005 named instance)

But when i try to add a database to my VS website project I get the following error:

Connection to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL server express 2005 to function properly. please verify the installation of the component or download from the URL: go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkId=4925

I went in Tools>Opetions>DataBase tools>Data Connection>Sql Server Instance Name (blank for default)

Reporting Services SQL 2005 .Net 4 compatibility?

I've been working on my first asp.net application and for the most part it's been pretty smooth.  Right now I'm having trouble getting reporting services working under SQL Server 2005.  I developed the site with Visual Studio 2010 and didn't think about any of the .Net 4.0 compatibility issues that have arisen.  I'm having no problems with the site communicating with SQL Server 2005 for the regular database stuff.  The only problem I'm having is with setting up Reporting Services.  I have the .Net 4.0 framework installed on the server, however Reporting Services is still using 2.x.  I'm not sure if this is a problem with SSRS or with IIS.  When i go to localhost/Reports it's reading my web.config for my application and throwing an error: "Parser Error Message: Unrecognized attribute 'targetFramework'."  This is referring to a line in my web.config where targetFramework is set to 4.0.

Software that I'm using:

  • Visual Studio 2010
  • SQL Server 2005 Standard
  • IIS 7.0
  • .Net 4.0

Any suggestions?
