why is MDAC download only for x86 but sqlncli.msi download is for both x86 and x64 Windows-es?

Download the 2008 Feature Pack for Microsoft SQL Server 2008 [1] contains download:  Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Native Client X86 Package (sqlncli.msi) - 4549 KB X64 Package (sqlncli.msi) - 7963 KB IA64 Package (sqlncli.msi) - 11112 KB which I understood as downloads of SQL Server Native Client for both x64 (64-bit) Windows and x86 (32-bit) Windows. Why is corresponding MDAC download [2] only for x86 (32-bit) Windows (contain the prhrase "Available for x86-based computers only")? And why does not this feature pack[1], wuth separate links to stand-alone downloads,  also contain download for MDAC [2]? SQL*Server 2008 SP1 applied but still tries to download and install from Windows Update

I had previously posted this on the windows update forum and was advised here was more appropriate. I have installed SQL*Server Express 2008 on laptop with windows7 and appled the SP1 update. This shows as applied correctly when looking at programs/updates from control panel, update logs. The management console confirms version 10.1.2531 is running. Each time I use windows update  the service pack is listed as needing download / install - the same KB968369 is given as the reference. I have run this a couple of times but the update is shown as outstanding each time. Any ideas how to resolve this? Thanks Colin

the x64 version of sqlncli.msi installs 32-bit version, download versions of sqlncli.msci for x64

[1] states: "The x64 and Itanium versions of sqlncli.msi also install the 32-bit version of SQL Server Native Client. If your application targets a platform other than the one it was developed on, you can download versions of sqlncli.msi for x64, Itanium, and x86 from the Microsoft Download Center"  Can anybody translate this phrase into English-as-Foreign-Language? file download / Windows XP

Hi guys,

I have a simple web application which allows to download pdf files from server.   I use this function

    public void WriteFileToResponse(string filename, byte[] file)
        Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=" + filename + ".pdf");
        Response.ContentType = "application/pdf";      }
      catch (Exception ex)
        WriteErrorToResponse("Failed to send a file: " + filename + ". " + ex.Message);

It works fine at my machine with Windows 7. I can download the file and opened it in PDF reader no problem. The problem is when I install the application at a machine with Windows XP the file still can be downloaded but I cannot open it. PDF Reader complains that the file is corrupted.

I saved the file from code at the server and compared it with the downloaded file. The latter is slighly bigger.

So what do I miss? Does it have something to do with IIS 5? I have installed .Net 4.0 at the machine. Do I need something else?

Download and Share Visual Studio Color Schemes

The good news is that Visual Studio allows you to completely customize the editor background and text colors to whatever you want - allowing you to tweak them to create the experience that is "just right" for your eyes and personality. You can then optionally export/import your color scheme preferences to an XML file via the Tools->Import and Export Settings menu command.

File Download Problem

Hi everyone,

I am using a download handler to handle the downloading of files from my website.  I am using a slightly modified code from the Microsoft article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/812406

Everything is working fine and downloading, even with large files, but it does not show the file size for any of the files to download. Even if theyre really small.

Here is my code for the handler

public class DownloadHandler : IHttpHandler

        public void ProcessRequest(HttpContext context)
            string path = "";
                path = context.Server.UrlDecode(context.Request.QueryString["src"]).DecryptString();
            catch(Exception ex)
            System.IO.Stream iStream = null;

            byte[] buffer = new Byte[10000];

            int length;

            long dataToRead;

            string filename = System.IO.Path.GetFileName(path);

                iStream = new System.IO.FileStream(context.Server.MapPath("~/" + path), System.IO.FileMode.Open,
                            System.IO.FileAccess.Read, System.IO.FileShare.Read);
