Export from SQL to Mainframe database

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 14, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
Situation: Need to import records from my SQL database to a mainframe database. I need to break my SQL export into multiple lines of fixed width code for one record. Is there a "software tool" or if someone already created an extract that I can modify to meet my requirements (fixed length, record number schema, line count per record) would be extremly helpful or do I need to write this from scratch? Example of export for one record: @@0001 AA080195 @@0002 3BB31SUBMIT# @@0003 3C131SUBMIT# PROVNUM PTACCOUNTNUM PATIENTLASTNA @@0004 3C2 @@0005 3C3 CLAIM# @@0006 3C4 @@0007 3C5 DATINJ @@0008 3C6 REFPHY# @@0009 3C7 HDXCD 01PA/REFID @@0010 3D101FRMDOSTO-DOSPST PROCDMD DXCOD0010001234SR @@0011 3D201@REMARKS FIELD - 40 CHARACTERS .......... @@0012 3T1 PERFPR# @@0013 3T20001234 @@0014 3XX000001000013 @@0015 ZZ Thanks for the assistance.

Export Visio Database Table Names to Excel

If you use the Enterprise Architect edition of Microsoft Visio for data modeling regularly, then there is a good chance that at some point you've wanted to export just the table names into Excel. You might want to do this to map logical ERD entities to physical data model tables, track project status by entity, or track overlap between database versions.

Migration / Export of Analysis Services 2000 database without affecting the source database

Hi! I´m am currently initating a migration of a 300GB Analysis Services database containing approx 50+ cubes. My issue is that the database is somewhat critical, and I just want to get a couple of answers and feedback before i press Go. My plan is to use the "Analysis Services Migration Wizard" to migrate the database to a new (test environment) server. Q1: I just want to migrate the structure, the metadata, is this what the migration wizard does? I don´t have 300GB disk space at the test server to accomodate all the data. We will start off with just a subset Q2: Since the data is 300GB+, it might take a very long time using the migration wizard. If that is the case, can I make a copy of the database in analysis manager 2000 and paste it with a different name, and the migrate this, empty, database? Would you see any trouble with this approach? Any other thoughts on this, somewhat massive, migration project? How would you do it? The most important this is that the old database cannot be touched, since this would mean a reprocess of 300GB data, on a server from the nineties... Cheers,

Export millions of records from database (Oracle) to excel

Hey guys, I'm running a query that brings millions of records and makes the server run out of memory. I'm thinking I should get the data in chunks. So I was wondering if someone could shed some light on this or point me to another place where I can read further.

Currently, I just implemented "paging". I can now pass a "page index" parameter and "page size". So I could call 1,000 times the stored procedure with a page size of 1,000 (for 1 million records). This might be an option, but I wanted to hear someone else's opinion on how to "stream" records from oracle to the web server and then to a file.

Export Database through WebMatrix

I have WebMatrix beta 2.  I made a WordPress site on my local box.  I published it using FTP (my hosting does not offer "web deploy").  Of course this means my "MySQL" database was not  published.  So I want to export it separately, and import it manually.  However, I can't find any option in Webmatrix that allows the database to be exported.

Can someone explain how that is done with Webmatrix?

Complete Database Export/Import

I have a question I am hoping someone can answer in a nutshell.  I work at a small company that has a 75GB SQL Server 2000 DB.  Data is written to and deleted from many of the 500 tables it contains.  Some of the largest tables contain over 21 million rows.  It is believed that this databse has never had any maintanence performed, such as index defrags or compaction of any sort.  I will admit I am more of a systems engineer and not a DBA, but my questions are as follows:

My supervisor believes that if we export/import the entire database (or copy and re-write?), then the data, and indexes will be re-written in a contiguous format and this will speed up read/write access.

I believe, that even if there is a way to export/import the data, or to recreate the DB schema and then basically re-create the DB, that this will not impove the performance or re-organize the indexes.  I suggested that we use DBCC DBREINDEX as a starting point since it has never had best practices implemented.

Any suggestions?

Multiple database support with Entity Framework

One of the features introduced in Entity Framework is being database independent. Which mean each database provider can support Entity Framework by implementing its provider.

This feature allows you build applications independent from the underplaying database provider. In this post I'm going to show how to build an application that support multiple databases using same conceptual model made by Entity Framework.
