Installer to verify and install multiple versions of .NET (3.5 SP1 and 4.0)

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 14, 2010    Points: 0   Category :.NET Framework
I'm running VS2010 and have built an installer that checks for the .NET 4.0 dependency. If the installer can't find .NET 4.0, then it is installed from disk (my client machines are not connected to the internet). However, I also require .NET 3.5 SP1 to be installed. Although both .NET 4.0 and 3.5SP1 are both checked in the "Prerequisites" box within my installer. Only .NET 4.0 shows up in the Launch Conditions panel. Right clicking on the "Requirements on Target Machine" box shows a fly out with several options but the "add .NET Framework Launch Condition" is grayed out, because one already exists. Any ideas?

Error: Encountered multiple versions of the same assembly with GUID...try pre-importing...TlbImp

Hi!  Can someone tell me how I can troubleshoot the following error: "Encountered multiple versions of the same assembly with GUID...try pre-importing one of these assemblies".

The website developed in VS 2010 (.Net 3.5). This error is only received on my workstation.  Another person developing the site does not experience this issue at all.  Also, not sure if this matters, but on my workstation the 'Assembly Information...' dialog contains no values even though the 'AssemblyInfo.vb' file does specify values for the title, desc, etc.  The GUID being referenced in the error is the main project of the three projects within the solution.

I tried looking through the GAC, but do not see any references to the projects or DLLs in the VS solution and am not sure what else/where to look.

If I delete the copy of the solution on my local machine and pull down a copy from source control (AnkhSVN) the solution will build with no error.  Once I make any changes, such as adding a new aspx file, then the error is received.

I can provide any additional information needed.

Unable to install SQL Server 2005 SP2 - Unable to install Windows Installer MSI File

I have been trying to figure out how to fix this problem for the past couple of days and I was unable to find an answer to my specific problem in the forum. My OS is Windows XP Professional SP3 on MacBook Pro, using Parallels Desktop 4.0. Every single time Windows update tries to install SQL Server 2005 SP2, it fails. I am using Business Contact Manager with Outlook 2007 and SQL Server stops randomly and I am forced to restart the software. I am not sure if it is relevant to this specific problem but I thought I would make a note of this.I have downloaded SP2 and tried to install it locally but that did not work. Here is the error message I get:OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 (Build 2600)Package Language: 1033 (ENU)Package Platform: x86Package SP Level: 2Package Version: 3042Command-line parameters specified:     /quiet     /allinstancesCluster Installation: No**********************************************************************************Prerequisites Check & StatusSQLSupport: Passed**********************************************************************************Products Detected                         Language  Level  Patch Level       Platform  EditionExpress Database Services (MSSMLBIZ)      ENU       SP1    2005.090.2047.00  x86       EXPRESS**********************************************************************************Products Disqua

Question regarding having multiple versions of the .net framework

Hi guys,

Sorry if this sounds silly, but it's been getting to me for quite a while now.  I've been having some issues installing both .net framework 3.5 and 4.0 on my computer since I have certain software that either requires one or the other to run.  I've tried over and over again to install framework version 3.5 from your web site, but each time, the result is the same.  I always get the error that I mustconfigure the framework from the control panel.  Yet I see nothing about that in the control panel.  Maybe it would help you to know that I had first found .net framework through IIS when I went to put that in there, and so I've been trying to install it from there.  Every other framework version works fine except for version 3.5.  I unfortunately cannot provide any logs since my computer is currently with the Gordon college techs due to another issue, but any help on this would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Install Sql Server using WIX - Installer

So far I read as much material as I could get on the web, but I am no where near a complete solution. So, any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is the problem:
Using an installer, I need to create an installation package to install Sql Server 2005 Express along with our software. We are using WIX (open to any other suggestions) to create .MSI package.

I read this article, but could not figure out how.
Has anyone here installed Sql Server with WIX? What version WIX do I need? [I have Wix 3.5.0]

Let me know if the question is not clear, I'll add more info.

Any help would be great.

Want to install Sharepoint 2010 and RDS Gateway on same server, multiple questions

Background:  SMB environment, only have 4 servers.  Want to run SharePoint 2010 Foundation and RDS Web Access and RDS Gateway on same 08R2 server.

1. which one to install first, WSS or RDS?  Either one will install IIS and build and bind to the default website, so does it really matter which one goes first?  I seem to remember on old server installing TS WebApp and Gateway first, then WSS3, and TS WebAccess stopping until I added the host header to WSS.

2.  how to enable HTTPS access to both WSS and RDS WebAcess/Gateway?  this failed on a previous server, which I am now migrating to new hardware/OS.  RDS Web Access and Gateway use the default website.  I can make WSS work http with a host header, but not https.  on old server everytime I enabled an https AAM for my WSS site it stopped the TS Gateway service, but I only had one NIC on that server at the time.  My new server has four NIC's.  So, would a valid solution be to restrict the default website (RDS Web Access and Gateway) binding in IIS to one NIC and then restrict the WSS site to another?  I seem to remember adding a NIC to the old server and trying to change the default site binding from "all unassigned" to just one IP and TS Gateway stopped, but I could be imagining that, it's been a while.

Multiple .net framework versions

In my server i am observing multiple versions of .net framework.

Our server is sql server 2005.with .net framework 2.0.

But i am observing more versions like 3.0,3.5 also

Can anyone help me why these many versions are there.

And recently i got one error

Event id: 5000

event type clr20r3,P1 sacsclient.exe,P2,P34c0f1a1a,P4mscorlib,P5,P6471ebc5b,P716f8,P822,P9 system.invalidoperation exception,P10NIL.

Is this error due to above multiple versions .

SQL Server Compact Edition with Multiple connexion - SQL Server Express without install...

I have develop a Delphi tool that allow to manage enterprise timesheet.

This application is used by multiple different user in an enterprise.

The tool can run under SQL Server 2000,2005, 2008 (express or not).

In my SQL queries within my application, there is a lot of "INNER JOIN", "OUTER JOIN" that is quite universal.
But there is also some "ISNULL(?,!)", "CASE WHEN ... .THEN ... ELSE .. .END".

I want to have a "free trial" version of my tool.

I can't ask my users to install SQL Server (it is a free trial).

I am not able to use SQL Server Compact Edition because I need a multi-computer connexion (each different employes of a company access the tool).

I dont really like ACCESS because there is some standard not respected (varchar datatype do not exist, memo field is not easy to manipulate compare to varchar(2000), CASE WHEN dont work, I have to make weird query junction with parenthesis when there is multiple table, etc...etc...etc...).

My question : WHAT CAN I DO!  I dreamed of SQL Server Compact Edition allowing multiple concurrent connexion and handling tables.  Or SQL Server Express without install.

Is there a solution to this?

Do I need to keep multiple versions of the .NET Framework installed in my system?

I realize that this may sound like a bit of a dumb question, but here goes anyway...

Several months ago, I downloaded and installed the Visual Basic trial thinking that that was the program that I needed.  As it turns out I have decided farm this part of my project out to a professional, rather than spending countless hours frustrated with attempting to do it myself.  At the time that I installed Visual Basic I was asked to .NET Framework 2.0  I have since installed two updates, version 3.0 & 3.5.  These programs are quite memory intensive and take up a great deal of hard drive space!  I am currently running WinXP on my Intel-based MacBookPro under Bootcamp.  Unfortunately, the way that the original Bootcamp beta version partitioned my hard drive, it only allows for 32 GB of my hard disk to be allocated to running WinXP This includes any & all applications, documents, etc... that you would by definition have on your computer!  As it stands currently, the .NET Framework applications are occupying 0.5 gigabytes of my hard drive.

Do I need to keep version 2.0 as well as versions 3.0 and 3.5?  Also, since I had no longer using Visual Basic, do I even need to keep the .NET framework on my system at all?

Thank you so much for your help!!!

SQL Server Install Materials Cannot Access Windows Installer

We are getting the following error when trying to install SQL Server (2005 and 2008) software on a Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise machine:

"The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer in not correctly installed. Contact you support personnel for assistance."

We had installed SQL Server 2005 previously, but are now trying to install other components from the SQL Server installation materials.  We get the same error with the SQL Server 2005 and 2008 installers.

In our reasearch we've found references to corrupt or missing files and incorrect registry entries, and from the advice in those posts we have:

- Reregistered msi.dll
- Reregistered msiexec.exe
- Checked that the image path registry setting is correct
- Compared MD5 values for msi.dll and misexec.exe to those from a functioning server.
- imported registry settings from; Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\msisrver, from a properly functioning server

but have not been able to correct the issue.

Multiple database support with Entity Framework

One of the features introduced in Entity Framework is being database independent. Which mean each database provider can support Entity Framework by implementing its provider.

This feature allows you build applications independent from the underplaying database provider. In this post I'm going to show how to build an application that support multiple databases using same conceptual model made by Entity Framework.

Multiple Column Dropdownlist for the ASP.NET DataGrid

Based on my previous control "Multiple Column DropDownList for ASP.NET", I received many emails asking for the same control to be used in the DataGrid for web applications. Here we go.. This control can be used as the regular MS DropDownList in the DataGrid and also as a regular dropdownlist. It has all the properties, like DataTextField, DataValueField, DataSource, SelectedIndex etc. The download file contains the samples both in VB.NET and C#. In this sample, I have used the Northwind database of SQL Server.
