Access to heteregenous content?

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 14, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
We are trying to gauge whether Sharepoint 2010 search capabilities will work for a particular set of search requirements, which are these: 1. Data is scattered across a number of locations. 2. Some data is unstructured (text files, images, etc). 3. Some is stored in relational databases (oracle, sql server, sybase, mysql, etc) What our customer would like to be able to do is to do keyword searches across all of these data sources, both the structured and unstructured, and return the results in an OpenSearch compatible format. I think the unstructured data can be searched out of the box. My understanding with respect to the structured data is that SP 2010 can search it, with the provision that we would need to write one or more federated search connectors for the structured data sources and then connect SP 2010 to these connectors to do its search. In other words, it is not possible right now to tell SP 2010 out-of-the-box to crawl databases a, b, and c, and more specifically certain tables and columns in each of those databases, and make them available directly for search. My understanding is that those decisions and legwork would need to be done through the connector that we would write, and that SP 2010 could consolidate the results presented by each of the connectors. Is this correct?   thanks,   --dan

"Access is denied. Check that the Default Content Access Account has access to this content"

Our search is not working. The crawl log indicates following error: "Access is denied. Check that the Default Content Access Account has access to this content, or add a crawl rule to crawl this content. (The item was deleted because it was either not found or the crawler was denied access to it.)".

If I check the event viewer, it indicates following error: "Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE'. [CLIENT: <local machine>]"

My default content access account is another one than this NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE account. The content access account password is correct. Apparently this content access account is translated to the NETWORK SERVICE account upon a crawl. And this network service account doesn't has the appropriate rights on database level. How can I fix this?

master pages - how to access content page from master page?

Hello,I have a master page setup that is used throughout my site that is basically a header with a menu. I recently added a textbox and a button to this master page which is to be a quick search box that is available anywhere in the site. When a user enters text into the search box and hits the button, I need to load the actual content page which is used to search and show search results (which also uses this same master page), and have the text entered available so the search can be triggered automatically. Again, this search text box and button is now in my master page so it could be  triggered from anywhere in the app... it serves as a convenient way to do a basic search from anywhere in my app, without having to first navigate to the actual 'search page' that already exists.  You can also navigate to the actual search page, which uses the same master page, where there is many more search options.I'm thrown off by the master page arrangement, which I have not used until this project. What do I do?

Accordion control access in Javascript using Content page

Hi, I struggled with some javascript issues, and discovered that the problem seemes to come from a failed ajax control access.Here's my problem:I have a master page and a content page.In my content page, I have an accordion with 2 panes.1rst pane: a textbox and a validation button;                     I want the button to fire javascript function without reloading page (using "return false;");In my master page, I put my ToolkitScriptManager.In my content page, I put my script containing the functions.The problem is that it seems like I can't access the accordion control in my js functions, whereas I can access my textbox value...Here is my source:<%@ Page Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Default.master" Title="CLEOR RH | Home" CodeFile="Default.aspx.cs" Inherits="Default_aspx" %> <%@ Register Assembly="AjaxControlToolkit" Namespace="AjaxControlToolkit" TagPrefix="cc1" %> <asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="Main" runat="server"> <script type="text/javascript"> var step1 = false; function pageLoad() { var accCtrl = $find('AccordionCtrl_AccordionExtender');

Inconvenient SharePoint 2010 Content Query Web Part and Anonymous Access

Morning every one

I am hoping some one has found a work around regarding this.

I am using a JQuery random 'quote' generator (http://nextconnect.blogspot.com/2009/12/jquery-random-quote-viewer.html) in my site.I have enabled full anonymous access. My issue is that it still prompts you for the login in order to see the quote generator. I have tried the "ViewFormPagesLockDown" fix but it isn't even activated on my site. And now I am at a complete loss. I did some googling (Read 5 hours) and it seems that in Sharepoint 2010 doesn't have a work around for this and I am really hoping I am wrong.

Any ideas?

Have a great friday :)

Edit access denied on publishing site - content db upgrade

There was a problem a while back in MOSS that caused users with proper rights to get access denied messages when attempting to edit or create items... something to do with the PermMask field needing the RenderXMLUsingPattern attribute to be set to true.

In a publishing site that was content db upgraded to 2010, I'm seeing the same issue, but PermMask is fine.  The problem seems to be with the "Publishing Site with Workflow" site template, because if I create a new subsite in this collection and give a content management user group any level of rights to it, including full control, the error persists in the new subsite.  However, if I create a vanilla team site in the collection, there's no issue.  The site collection has also been backed up and restored in a test environment to isolate any farm- or server-related issues.  Edit: both environments are also patched to August CU.

Anyone find a way around this without resorting to demolition?

In the logs, I'm seeing the following lines (user actually has 0x7FFFFFFFFFFFFFFF):

PermissionMask check failed. asking for 0x00010000, have 0x00000000
PermissionMask check failed. asking for 0x4000000000000000, have 0xB008431061
PermissionMask check failed. asking for 0x00000005, have 0xB008431061
PermissionMask check failed. asking for 0x000000

Access denied when Searc Service Application tries to crawl Sharepoint content

I have just set up a new SP2010 environtment(3 servers: WFE, App, SQL).

When I try to get my Search Service Application to crawl my main SP site and my MySite location, I get the following error in the crawl log:

"Access is denied. Verify that either the Default Content Access Account has access to this repository, or add a crawl rule to crawl this repository. If the repository being crawled is a SharePoint repository, verify that the account you are using has "Full Read" permissions on the SharePoint Web Application being crawled."

Things I have checked:
I have ensured that the default access account has "Full Read" on the web application
-I set up crawl rules for both sources specifying a service account that has admin access to the content on those sites
-I logged in to the SP sites using the service account that the Service Application is using to crawl
-I even created a brand new search service application from scratch and got the exact same results

The only difference between this environment and my test environment, where search works just fine, is that this is the production environment and so it uses FQDN with a host header: http://portal.company.org.

MOSS 2007 - Access is denied. Check that the Default Content Access Account has access to this cont

Greetings folks,

I have MOSS 2007 running on Windows 2008 server.  I'm getting the following error when trying to crawl content.  "Access is denied. Check that the Default Content Access Account has access to this content, or add a crawl rule to crawl this content."  I have tried everything to correct this, and i'm about ready to pull my hair out.

Access denied on complete content database?

Hello, I have a strange problem. After some upgrading and windows updates, my sites can't be accessed any more. I get an access denied, no matter what account I use. All system / farm admin / site collection administrator accounts are locked out. I can however, access Central Administration. When I create a new site with the same account as site admin, I can access that site perfectly. It seems only the sites in that single content database are affected, and I have no idea why.

As far as I can see, there are no ULS or event log messages to go on. The site collection also isn't locked.

What could be the culprit?

SharePoint Tutorial - Content Types

SharePoint content types provide users with a way to manage and organize content in a more meaningful way. It's a reusable of settings you want to apply to a particular type of document in a library or item in a list.

Enabling Users to Maintain SharePoint Content

When SharePoint is installed as a corporate intranet, there is a considerable amount of effort involved in maintaining the content to keep the site relevant. As we discussed in the first few parts of this series, SharePoint has many built-in features to reduce the burden on the site administrator.

Some areas of the site usually contain less-dynamic information. Internal memos and corporate policies are common examples of this information. One option for this information is to post these documents in a document library. Documents in a library are often stored in a few different formats: Word, Acrobat (PDF), or HTML. Each of these formats has its drawbacks.

MVC architecture in ASP.Net using C# and Microsoft Data Access Application block

The Model-View-Controller (MVC) pattern separates the modeling of the domain, the presentation, and the actions based on user input into three separate classes [Burbeck92]:

Model. The model manages the behavior and data of the application domain, responds to requests for information about its state (usually from the view), and responds to instructions to change state (usually from the controller).

View. The view manages the display of information.

Controller. The controller interprets the mouse and keyboard inputs from the user, informing the model and/or the view to change as appropriate.

Application Vs. Content Pages in SharePoint

SharePoint has two types of ASPX pages. One type is the application page, also known as a _layout page. The other type of ASPX page is a content page, also known as a site page. Each of these page types is stored in a different location in SharePoint. When developers create custom ASPX pages, they must decide on the page type.
