Incoming email to SharePoint - what am I missing?

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 14, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
I am able to send email from the internet to my Exchange box yet unable to send to SharePoint libraries and lists.  I want users to send to the addresses of mylibrary@work.net, yet my Exchange domain and box name is domainex.domain.com and my SharePoint box is named domainsp.domain.com.   Here are my settings: SharePoint Box Name:   domainsp.domain.com Central Admin incoming mail settings:  server field is set to domainsp.domain.com, friendly email address is set to mylist@mywork.net Incoming mail settings on library: set to receive mail at libraryname@mywork.net Exchange Box Name:  domainex.domain.com Attended domain:   mywork.net Send connector address space: domainsp.domain.com (sharepoint box) Send connector smart host: domainsp.domain.com (sharepoint box) Mail contact: SMTP external address of libraryname@mywork.net   DNS MX record of mywork.net pointing to Exchange box   I'm sure something is wrong, but I'm not sure what! My bounceback email tells me that the mailbox of mylibrary@work.net is unavailable or not local.  Giving up on <ip address for exchange box>.   Please help!  I don't know what to do next!

Configure Incoming Email in SharePoint 2010 with a remote (public) SMTP Server

I have a standalone SharePoint 2010 Installation on my local network. Have configured the SMTP Services and a SMTP domain called "internalcompany.com". Created a hosts file entry also for that - now outlook is able to send emails to this domain; it reaches the drop folder and from there SharePoint picks it up and pushes to the document libraries. So far so good. But obviously this is not what I want to do: my www.company.com is my public domain and mail server is mail.company.com - how do I get the local SMTP point to this address - so that if someone sends an email to shareddocs@company.com (just like any other normal id), it comes to my local server and then SharePoint. How do I do this? Remember, my server is standalone and my network is not domain based and does not have exchange.Karthick

SharePoint 2010 Incoming Email cannot process email file attachment in email with less than sign < a

When sending an email which contains an email attachment such as "Hello <World>.msg" from Outlook to SharePoint 2010 email enabled list such as an "Announcements" list, no item is created in the list and the attached email and the orginal email are not saved.

The log file contains

09/23/2010 13:51:17.54  OWSTIMER.EXE (0x18FC)                    0x0B2C SharePoint Foundation          E-Mail                         6873 Warning  An error occurred while processing the incoming e-mail file C:\inetpub\mailroot\Drop\f17ce37101cb5b600000002a.eml. SharePoint 2010 Incoming Email cannot process file attachment with zero size.

When sending email with attachments to SharePoint list, if one of the file attached to the email is of size 0, then none of the files will be saved and NO new item will be created in the list.

The SPEmailHandler's ProcessAttachment method should check the length of the "contentStream". If the length is 0, it should return immediately.

As you can see in the ProcessAttachment method none of the arguments are validated before they are used. This an example of poor quality code.

It should do at least

if (contentStream == null || contentStream.Length == 0) return;

if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(fileName) || item == null) return;

private static void ProcessAttachment(Stream contentStream,

SharePoint 2010 Incoming Email Unique Files are Not Created.

SharePoint 2010 Incoming Email Unique Files are Not Created.

Description: In SharePoint 2010, when the document library is configured to receive incoming emails, the email attachments sent to document library should be saved as files. When files with same names received, the files should be saved with unique names.

Bug: The files with same names are dropped by SharePoint timer services. If the file with the name already exists in the document library, the newer file will not be saved.

Reason: In the SharePoint log, there is an error about "AddUniqueFile failed to create a file or folder. Filename: Dell Order 001.pdf Errorcode: -2130575305"

Checking the errorcode -2130575305, it is about "saveconflict", ErrorCode=-2130575305.

Content Query Web Part missing in SharePoint 2010

If you don't see content query web part listed in the web parts list, this is because you have not enabled "Search Server Web Parts" feature in site collection features. Enable this feature and content query web part will show in the list of web parts.

Trying to send email using Sharepoint Designer 2007 workflow and email enabled list

I have a a list that recieves email. I have few fields that shows me the originator: "E-Mail From" and "E-Mail Sender".

I am trying to create a workflow that will generate an auto reply to the originator but the SPD fails to recognize the email address in these two fields. It's either truncating part of it or uses the html ( href=mailto:Demo@DemoSomething.com) in the To field.

Thank you,

Sharepoint 2007 Email problem

I've used Sharepoint 2007 to create my website. Within my web pages I've included Forms in order to capture people's contact details, so that when they 'Submit' the form their details are emailed to my email account. The problem is that when I go to Form Properties and insert the email address to which I want the data sent, I receive this message: "This form cannot be configured to send results via email. The web site may be based at a disk-based location, or a location that has not been configured to send email. Contact your system admin or ISP for more info. Would you like to remove the email recipient Yes or No"

I am satisfied that the settings within the webhosting service are correct. Is this functionality available with Sharepoint 2007 or do I need to switch to alternative software.

Incoming Email Issue

I just installed Windows 7.  Often I get a notice indicating an incoming Email cannot be opened on my system.  I know some are safe since they include Microsoft, windows, friends, etc.  I must download each and add to my safe list.   Does anyone have a solution?

[Sharepoint 2007] How can i change the email of a sharepoint user ?

Hi all,

I have created a new sharepoint user.

1. First of all i have added a new user in active directory. However at that time i forgot to give an email address. Big mistake !

I cannot send mail from sharepoint workflow with the new user.

2. Therefore I updated the email addresd in active directory afterwards. But the change was not reflected in sharepoint.

I updated the mail in sharepoint adminsitrative user profile. But it did not make no difference in the user moss profile.

I followed the article in http://sharepointnotes.wordpress.com/2008/05/05/syncing-wss-and-moss-user-profile-properties-with-active-directory/

I did the following commands :

1. stsadm -o sync
2. stsadm -o sync -synctiming m:2
3. stsadm -o sync -deleteolddatabases 6
 stsadm -o sync

None of these commands updated the user properties mail for my new MOSS User.

I also rebooted the machine but my MOSS user email was not updated.

Also I used the tool at http://userprofilesync.codeplex.com/releases/view/13227
like the following :

tool>UserProfileSync.exe -url http://mysite -ssp http://mysite:37239/ssp/admin
I did not make any difference

What else can I try in order to update the email of my MOSS user ?

How to email documents from Sharepoint (WSS3.0)

Hi there,   I am very new to sharepoint so if this is a common / obvious question, please forgive me.   I have just set-up our company's internal website using sharepoint. Thankfully everyone loves it and we are getting great results from it.   I am however having the following problem:   I have created a document library that contains PDF versions of our company's catalogue. The idea was that staff members could access the catalogue, as well as send the PDF's to customers via email.   I was hoping that there was a way I could add the functionality to send these PDF's as opposed to sending a link (that the external customers cannot open). I realise that we could simply open the document and then email it from within the PDF reader, however I was hoping that there would be a more elegant solution.   Any help would be much appreciated.   Thanking you in anticipation.   Regards,   Warren

Problem with incoming mail to SharePoint Library - what is wrong with this?

I configured my incoming mail to a SharePoint 2010 library according to these instructions. http://intellects.in/2010/04/04/configuring-sharepoint-2010-document-libraries-with-exchange-server-2010-to-receive-mails-from-internalexternal-world/ I'm able to receive mail at the Exchange mailbox set up for the document library, but am unable to receive the document in the library itself.  I'm thinking it's because I have a problem with my naming - but I'm not sure how to solve it: I have a SharePoint box and an Exchange box. I've configured the SMTP virtual server with default domain of  server.domain.com .  I've also assigned it an alias of domain2.net I've configured incoming email in SharePoint Central Administration to use the address of mylist@domain2.net so that users can have a friendly url for sending documents to lists and libraries. I've created an Attended Domain in Exchange 2010 and set up an email address policy that speicifes all mailboxes receive an domain2.net address.  I have an MX record for the domain2.net address with a DNS server pointing to the Exchange box. I've created an SMTP Send Connector that points to the FQDN server.domain.com of my virtual server on my SharePoint box. With that connector, I've chosen to route mail through the same FQDN of server.domain.com , that of my SharePoint/IIS SMTP Virtual Server box. When I confi
