General question steps to configure mysites in SharePoint 2010

I am trying to configure the mysite web application, so I have created a DNS record "mysite" and created a web application for the mysite and created a mysite host site collection on it. Now I have read somewhere that u have to create managed paths for the profile and the mysite, which actually corresponds with the name of the DNS record/mysite webapp. For some reason when i am opening the mysite, i get a url something like http://my/my. What am i doing wrong? Can somebody just give me a step by step approach on how to configure Mysites in MOSS 2010?I am a SharePoint Infrastructure Engineer, focussed on Administration and Installation of SharePoint Server environments.

Sharepoint 2010 Mysites

We are looking to implement sharepoint 2010 in the coming months, and are wanting to use the mysite feature as a entrance to all our corporate information, with a dashboard type setup with different features depending on your role within the organisation, soooooo my question is.

Is it possible to have multiple mysite templates setup for different user group so they recieve the relevant information, i.e a budget manager gets the budget snapin where as a standard user wont need this screen.

Many Thanks

sharepoint designer 2010 customize xslt "entire view" or "customize item"

Sharepoint 2010 features customize deployment(Upgrade)

Dear All

I am using site definition approach for development and so i have created features for each and everything , i.e for content types, master page and layout pages, variations,Lists instances etc.

When i deploy solution from VS 2010, it first retreat solution and so removing everything and again in next steps add and activates each and everything.

In package, if i take some selected feature E.g Lists Features then it deploys only that but before it retract steps removes everything.

So in this case only Lists available in Site.

My question is : how i can customize deployent for some particular features ?

means if i just want to change only one column of list then only that feature need to updated on site and all other features should remain unchanged at all.

As i guess i can not remove retreat step from deployment steps as for add and activate solution retract is necessary

So kindly reply what is proper approach to upgrade only selected features and also if i am not on right track

SharePoint 2010 Customize Form Did Not Functioning

Using Infopath 2010 to customize a SharePoint 2010 list with columns using Managed Metadata

Hello All-

I would like to customize the "new" form on a SharePoint list that has some columns that use managed metadata term sets as options.  Unfortunately, when I do so, I get the message:

"InfoPath cannot generate a form template for the SharePoint list."

The following fields in the SHarePoint list are not supported because of their data type and will not be available in InfoPath Designer:

-MyColumnName (TaxonomyFieldTypeMulti)

This error message seems to be pretty self explanatory, but it boggles my mind that this would be the case.  Can I really not customize my list "new" form in Infopath if I am using columns with managed metadata?  Any workarounds?

Content Query Web Part Sharepoint 2010 AND Customize the data presentation

In fields to display you have a Title field. We will like to show two columns (Section Name and Status) in the title field, but only the fist one is displayed in the result. We use this syntax:

Column [Group];Column [Group]

When I use this formula

Section Name [Agresso R&D Base Columns] ; Status [Agresso R&D Base Columns ]

in the title field, the Section Name is displayed, and no Status, When I use this formula

Status [Agresso R&D Base Columns ]; Section Name [Agresso R&D Base Columns] ;

in the title field the Status field is displayed, and no section name. Is this a bug? or is it an other way to show both columns in the title field?

Fields to display Depending on the scope of your query, you can select one or more site or list columns whose values you want to show in the display slots for this style. To specify a column from a particular group, type the name of the group in square brackets after the column name, for example, Column [Group]. Be sure to separate each column you enter with a semi-colon.

How do I enable/add the ability to Customize my Theme in SharePoint 2010 if the section is missing?

I do not have the option to customize my theme on sites on my server.

How do I enable this?

How do I enable/add the ability to Customize my Theme in SharePoint 2010 if the section is missing?

Question: How do I enable/add the ability to Customize my Theme in SharePoint 2010 if the section is missing in one site collection on a server?

I'm doing all this on a staging server, not our production server.
I have a site collection that has been successfully moved from WSS 3.0 to SharePoint 2010 Server (Enterprise).
I ran the Visual Upgrade on all sites in the Site Collection, so that the v4 interface is being used.

When I edit the Theme (Site Actions / Site Settings: Look and Feel / Site Theme), I can only choose an existing one, and have no way to Customize it. The Customize Theme section simply isn't present.

Another new Site Collection (not an upgrade from WSS) on the same server correctly shows the Customize Theme section.
I checked all the features available and didn't see anything that stood out. (It's possible I missed it).

Customize Rich Text Editor in SharePoint 2010

I tried to customize the Rich Text Editor (HTML Editor, Content Editor) in SharePoint 2010. How can I replace the default styles with my own styles in the following Dropdowns of the editor:

  • Fonts
  • Styles
  • Markup Styles
  • Tabel

I tried also the PrefixStyleSheet-Property but I don't figured out the correct style definition - the Dropdows were empty.

<PublishingWebControls:RichHtmlField id="Content" FieldName="PublishingPageContent" runat="server" PrefixStyleSheet="PageContentStyle"/>

I found some informations but nothing works.

Customize Ranking Calculation in SharePoint 2010 search results

We migrated the sharepoint application from 2007 to 2010. We use FullTextSqlQuery class to perform search operation on search service. The same query gives the rank numbers in the range of hundreds (< 1000) whereas the application migrated to sharepoint 2010 gives the result in the form of large rank numbers in the range of millions. These rank numbers are displayed to the user on the web application. For consistency reasons, what is the best possible way to get the rank numbers in sharepoint 2010 same as of sharepoint 2007 ???

Six easy ways to customize your site using Web Parts in SharePoint

Becoming familiar with Web Part customization techniques gives you a range of page-customization choices. For example, you can customize your site's home page so that it displays the specific information that your team needs. You can rearrange the list items on the home page, add lists, and even change the images on the home page. As you become more familiar with Web Part Page customization techniques, you can build interactive Web Part Pages that makes the data in lists more dynamic and useful, and you can add new Web Parts that provide access to external data and Web services.
