SharePoint 2007 Metadata In Outlook 2007

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 14, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
I have a few users that are looking for a better way to send documents to recipients outside the organization from SharePoint 2007.  The company's policy is to try to use Metadata rather than folders in the document libraries.  Unfortunately these custom columns are not displayed in Outlook 2007 and there are hundreds of files in each of the libraries.  This makes it a little challenging to locate the files to be attached to an email.  I see that there is an add-in from Colligo that may help but I'm wondering if there is another way without the purchase of add-ins or other products.  Any ideas?

Moving metadata and files together to Sharepoint 2007

Hello, The question is related to data migration (created using ASP application). I have metadata stored in SQL server 2008 and for each record there are few documents which are stored in windows file system(not in SQL server). I want to move to the metadata and the associated files to a SharePoint list ( the document should be stored as attachment, i think). Could you please suggest me a method to achieve this result?

Sharepoint Managed Metadata Services and Office 2007

Is there a patch or a workaround which would allow you to fill in metadata information pertaining to a column(which is a managed metadata type) from office 2007 client application. Currently it is greyed out and says Edit in server. Thanks KI am what i am

Publish Office 2007 documents with metadata to SharePoint 2010?

Hi. I have SharePoint 2010 Enterprise based Intranet solution. We are publishing office 2007 documents to various document libraries there. When uploading documents normally to the document library, I can enter managed metadata to the documents which are later sorted and filtered by this metadata. But how can I enter metadata at the point where I'm publishing the document(Publish->Document Management Server)? I can get the document management pane to show my metadata -column in word as a textbox after the document is published, but the textbox is colored grey and says that I should modify that data on the server i.e. from sharepoint.

Email InfoPath form located on secure SharePoint 2007 using Outlook

I have a 2007 InfoPath form that is stored on a secure 2007 SharePoint team site that needs to be emailed to outside users for feedback on a certain subject. The form is opened by a team member (with site access), sent to the reviewer to provide feedback (via Outlook 2007), and then submitted back to the team member for review and submission to the SharePoint site.

The issue I've encountered is that the outside user who receives the form in Outlook as the body of the email cannot enter information in any fields in order to provide feedback. The option to "include the form template with the email" is blocked in my InfoPath form options (I believe because the form location is a secured site). I have tried adding the users to permissions in just the library where the form is published to, but they still cannot enter any information.

Can someone provide me with a solution for this problem?

sharepoint 2010 task list to outlook 2007

I've connected to outlook a task list of sharepoint 2010.

Once connected I can see  only the activities assigned to one single user. All the activities assigned to multiple users are not reported

Does anyone know how to solve this bug?

Many thanks

Sharepoint 2010 and Outlook 2007 Problems!

I am using SP 2010 and have outlook 2007. I am using the calendar synch option and am easily able to synch the calendar from SP to Outlook. I was easily able to drag and drop all appointments at once from my outlook calendar to the SP calendar and they showed up on the SP site. Now I am unable to make any further changes on the SP calendar using Outlook that will show on the SP site. It will say it is "Send/Receive Status % complete" at the bottom of the Outlook screen, but when I look at the SP site, no changes are reflected. It will allow the opposite, if I make changes to the calendars on the SP site and then the changes will show on my Outlook SP calendars.

I have full permission in SP. Really confused why it let me synch at first FROM Outlook to the SP site, but no longer will.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Sharepoint Services 3.0 - hooking into outlook 2007 / 2010?

I'm looking at creating a Meeting Workplace using sharepoint services 3.0.

I'm reading a lot about calendars and how you can configure them to receive emails & update the calendar & such.

What I want to know is if it can be hooked into Outlook 2007 / 2010 so that it will either directly update my (and other members) calendars, or if it can be configured to broadcast the meeting request to the other members.

Sharepoint 2007 metadata hiding

I am using sharepoint 2007. I have some document library. I defined custom properties "Column1" and "Column2" for documents. I would like to have both of them included and visible in sharepoint document library portal. But I want to hide (remove exactly) the "Column2" property if document is saved outside. I tried to select "This column is Hidden" option whilst defining the Content list type column, but it only hidden the column in "Properties panel" inside eg. MS Word. It's still visible when I choose "Advanced Properties" option and "Custom" tab. I tried to remove "Column2" from Content Type definition, but it doesn't remove the "Column2" from "Custom" tab properties as well.

Is there any option to set in sharepoint 2007 that removes desired metadata (properties) from document while its saved outside sharepoint ? (more specyfic - is it possible to indicate Sharepoint 2007, which metadata properties should be included in document).

Please help and thank you in advance!

contents of certain XML elements/attributes as metadata for crawled items in SharePoint 2007

In SharePoint 2007, scenario is to use the contents of certain XML elements/attributes as metadata for crawled items. For example, make the title of a crawled item the content of an XML element.

Is there anything similar to xmlmapper in SharePoint 2007.

Accessing Sharepoint 2007 from Outlook 2007

I have linked some sharepoint folders in Outlook.  Now, I can see, browse, preview Sharepoints documents from Outlook. The only thing I cannot do but which was my primary need for doing this link is to be able to drag an email from my inbox to a linked folder, for classification purpose. When I'm hovering the document over the sharepoint folder(in the left folder pane in outook) a black X appears telling me I cannot. I do know that I have full access over that folder.

Any idea?

Thanks you.

SharePoint 2010 alert emails are displaying strange symbols in outlook 2007

After recently setting up alerts in SharePoint 2010, when receiving email alerts the format looks pretty screwed up.  We are using Exchange 2003 and Outlook 2007.  When setting up SharePoint outgoing email, the character set is 65001 (Unicode UTF-8).   Below is a picture of the email.  Anyone have any suggestions?

Show Sharepoint list tasks within the overarching To-do list in Outlook 2007

Is it possible to show Sharepoint list items in the overarching To-do list in Outlook 2007? (the one showing all tasks independent on which list it is in) I have no filters applied and can yet not see them.

Is this pending on some setting in Outlook?

Any help on this topic would be greatly appreciated!

reading sharepoint 2007 discussion board entries in outlook 2010 sometimes deletes or reposts them.

I get a huge fire alarm every month or two. Our users like to post and receive all the SharePoint lists from Outlook, but sometimes there will be mass reposts of old items, or deletion of mass items when they aren't even logged into SharePoint, or deletes a mass of discussion board entries when (again) the user isn't even in SharePoint nor deleted them from Outlook. I can't recreate the issue, and it seems completely at random. Any ideas what I can do to recreate, fix, or find out what is causing this?

This is a really big issue.

Its a MOSS 2007 server with Outlook 2010, and they are connected (Actions -> Connect with Outlook).

Write Custom WebParts for SharePoint 2007

The popularity of SharePoint Portal Server 2003 led Microsoft to tightly integrate the next SharePoint version, Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007, with its ASP.NET 2.0 WebPart framework. This tight integration enables the ASP.NET and SharePoint developer to do a number of things that previously weren't possible

SharePoint 2007 Workflows - Things to Consider Before You Start

SharePoint 2007 (MOSS) utilizes the Workflow Foundation (WF) to enable workflows on lists and content types. But before you start doing cartwheels there are few things you should know before you get started. The experiences I'll be discussing are not from book smarts but from building real MOSS solutions that are in production today.

Writing Custom Web Parts for SharePoint 2007

As I mentioned in an earlier blog post, SharePoint 2007 is built on top of ASP.NET 2.0, which means you can now use ASP.NET 2.0 features (Forms Authentication, Master Pages, Membership, Site Navigation, New Data Controls, etc) when building SharePoint sites. This is true for both the new Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 version (which will be a free download) as well as Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (which costs money).
