Conditional formatting on a joined subview using SharePoint Designer 2007 does not work

I have 2 SharePoint lists, one is a parent task list and the other a child task lists.  In SharePoint Designer 2007 I have created a combined datasource from these 2 lists.  From there I created a new ASPX page inserting the parent list as a dataview and the child as a subview.  So far so good, all is functioning as you would expect.    Now I need to apply conditional formatting to cells and rows in both the parent and child lists.  I can create a very simple condition on a row or cell of the parent list such as "If ID Equals '2988' format the background color as green" but no conditional formatting appears for the row where ID = 2988.  Incidentally, if I change the condition to "not equals 2988" the background changes to green. The line in the code view of Designer appears as follows:  <xsl:if test="../../../Rows/Row/@ID = '2988'">background-color: #00FF00;</xsl:if> I've seen this question asked here and in blogs but never answered.  If anyone has a solution, I would love to know what it is. Thanks; Dave  UPDATE:  it doesn't seem to matter if you add the additional fields as a joined subview or not.  If I add 2 data views, both using the linked data source which is configured to JOIN the contents of the data sources the conditional formatt

Access Denied while using Sharepoint designer 2007 to create a work flow

I am using Sharepoint Designer 2007 to create a work flow that sends emails to different people in a group depending on status of a record. For example, when some one reports a problem, an email is posted to concerned person and as soon as he/she checks the problem and updates the status an email is sent to next department and so on. Starting the work flow creation wizard is no problem but as soon as I press 'Finish' to create workflow I get 'Access Denied' message box. Any Ideas? I am using WSS 3.0 on 2003 Server.

Sharepoint Designer - Conditional Formatting Problem


I've been creating some basic conditional formatting scenarios using Designer ... but I'm very new to this and need help with two topics that I can't get to work.

Problem 1:

When my condition criteria is met I want to display a graphic in the background, but the left of the actual text for that column. 

Example: I have a list of orders and when the priority column says rush, I want to display a small graphic to the left of the text for that column and shift the text to the right by the width of the 40 pixel graphic.  I've looked through all the different settings in the "modify style" dialog box and have used trial and error, but the darn graphic keeps displaying behind the text only. UGH!  I've been working on this for 2 hours now and can't figure it out. 

Can someone tell me what parameters to set so the text is shifted to the right 40 pixels so the background that is left justified is visible?


Problem 2:  

In this case, I can't figure out how to write the formula to tell   If  [DUE DATE] is less then 5 days from today I want the background cell to change color. I know how to change the color, but can't figure out the formula for the life of me.  Can someone give me the formula?

How to aggregate with a joined subview in Sharepoint Designer



I have a data view web part which uses a "Linked Sources" as Datasource. I have created a master table, then created the joined subview inside the data view web part as usual. Instead of showing the detail data in the subview, I just showed the number of rows as this is what I am interested in.

The master table is grouped by a specific column, so here is a representation of what I have:

 FIELD_X   FIELD_Z   NUMBER(count of rows in the subview)
FOOTER_A (count of rows in the master table)

 FIELD_X etc...

the count of rows in the subview is given by the following:

Now, in the footer I want to show the total count of rows of the subview , not the count of rows of the master table. How can I get the count of rows of the subview based on the grouping of the master table?

More specifically the problem is that the subview cannot be directly link to the group header; it can be joined to a field in the master table which must then be filtered based on the group header.


Trying to send email using Sharepoint Designer 2007 workflow and email enabled list


I have a a list that recieves email. I have few fields that shows me the originator: "E-Mail From" and "E-Mail Sender".

I am trying to create a workflow that will generate an auto reply to the originator but the SPD fails to recognize the email address in these two fields. It's either truncating part of it or uses the html ( href=mailto:Demo@DemoSomething.com) in the To field.

How to Establish a Remote Web Site Connection in SharePoint Designer 2007


I am modifying a SharePoint site and so far so good.  Some of the objects were created using Visual Studio 2008 (C#).  I was able to modify these objects and implement them on the targete machine without issue.  The final step is to implement the ASPX pages that were modified using SharePoint Designer 2007.  These are aspx pages that are used to modify items in lists.  All the pages involved in this upgrade are customized.  I need to upgrade the target site with the modified version of these pages.  My intent is to copy the code from the page in the source site and past it into the same page on the target site.  I tried using the Remote Web Site connection tool in SharePoint Designer 2007 but received the following error message:

"Unable to open 'https://(site address)'.  Server Error:  Could not find a Web server at 'website'.  Please check to make sure that the Web server name is valid and your proxy settings are set correctly.  If you are sure that everything is correct, the Web server may be temporarily out of service."

I am not sure how to first check to see if the Web Server is temporarily out of service.  I would appreciate your input on how to verify this.

Background information of target machine:  WinServer 2008, IIS 7, Sharepoint (MOSS2007), site on port 80

Problem with SharePoint Designer 2007 and Custom List Forms


I created several forms (Create/Edit/View) for a SharePoint list, using Custom List Forms.  I'm using Content Types in the list to ensure that each item only has the necessary fields.  When I created the ASPX forms, and inserted the Custom List Forms, I selected the correct Content Type, and I got the right fields inserted in the form.

Now, for some reason I can't identify, every time I create a new form, and insert a Custom List Form, SPD is bringing ALL fields from the list, instead of just bringing the fields included in the selected Content Type.

I have tried many different things to solve the problem, including creating new lists/content types/forms, etc. but SPD is doing the same thing all the time.

Can somebody tell me what may have gone wrong in SPD or MOSS?


SharePoint Designer 2007 Workflow needs to initialize lookup field value and store it

This is for a governance tracking list. I have two tables: Roadmap and Roadmap Status In Roadmap, there are two fields of interest that are lookup fields to Roadmap Status:Title they are Status and OldStatus When an item is entered in Roadmap, I want to force the initial Status to "Submit" from Roadmap Status. I don't see any way in my workflow to to lookup that item in Roadmap Status and place the pointer (I'm assuming it is a GUID) into the field. The value is also stored in OldStatus to catch changes as I'm trying to force order of status in a few cases but not all. I'm doing it with a Lookup instead of Choice because the business tends to change the terminology they like and this way I don't change it in several places plus it allows them to change it in the list instead of someone changing the list field values. I've seen several places on the forum where people have a similar problem and Lambert Qin has given an answer but it never fits this scenario exactly. Do I have to go back to Choice columns? I only have Designer and would rather not have to learn another tool for a simple SharePoint implementation. Thanks for any help!

Sharepoint Designer 2007 Variable Data on a form

I am a lifetime COBOL programmer trying to make a new career in a Sharepoint world. I am working on a project where I have created a list of Employees.  Almost all of the employees on the list must update their status on a day-to-day basis. A view was created on this list using [ME] as the search criteria to only return the employee who is updating his own info. With Sharepoint Designer 2007 I created a custom form. I cut and pasted the code for the view that I described above and then created a series of buttons to allow the employee to choose a status. For each button, I built a workflow to do the specific updates to the employee's list line. I was able to set up an onclick event for each button to execute a Javascript function that would go to the webpage and start the workflow.  I got the actual workflow URLs from the Sharepoint Intranet webpage after I completed each one. Here is my problem (and it is probably my inexperience that has got me stumped); The URL that is fed to the Javascript function has a hard-coded number representing the ID field of the Employee list (that is what probably sets the "Current Item" in the workflow.  I can see that the listview from above the buttons has the ID field as one of its Fieldrefs.  How can I substitute some kind of ID variable in the set of parameters that is fed to the Javascript? 

Edit in Datasheet view does not work on one SharePoint 2007 farm, works on another.

The ability to edit in datasheet view on one of our environments no longer works.  I've tried different client machines on different builds and regardless of the install every library, list, etc. when attempting to edit in datasheet view shows as read only.  Our other environments those systems work as intended with those same clients. I've searched all over and haven't found anything that helped.  Any ideas?

MOSS 2007 - SharePoint Designer Workflow failing when using group vs individual user

I am creating a simple workflow in SharePoint designer that will email a selected user when a list is modified.  I am applying the condition "if modified by" in Designer.  This condition works fine and the email is sent when I select a specific user myDomain\username.  It does not work when I attempt to associate a SharePoint group with the "if modified by" filter. In my example the list has only one SharePoint group associated with it, this is the only group with permissions for the list.  The group contains multiple users. The workflow is successful with the following scenario: if modified by myDomain\user1 or if modified by myDomain\user2 The workflow fails with the follwoing scenario: if modified by mySharePointGroupName  (which includes myDomain\user1 and myDomain\user2) This would be an ungodly if statement with a large membership SharePoint group.  This would also be a nightmare as people leave the organization and their account credentials are left in the large if statement in the workflow.  Looking for the modified condition when associated with a group seems like the logical way of doing this. I also tried "myDomain\domain users" which accounts for all user in my domain, this failed as well. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Applying conditional formatting to the 'AssignedTo' column does not work in a data view using Shar

This one is throwing me for a loop.  I've joined two lists using "Linked Sources" in SharePoint Designer.  On a new ASPX page I added a data view and added 3 columns (Title, Priority and AssignedTo) as a multi-Item view.   I can select a row and apply conditional formatting to the Title field (changing the background color if @title = 'Parent 1') and the changes are displayed in the design pane.   The only oddity there is that I have to go back and edit the condition in advanced mode, changing the XPath expression from ../../../Rows/Row/@Title = 'Parent 1' to @Title = 'Parent 1'  and then it seems to work just fine. Here's the problem.  I want the condition applied to the AssignedTo column (hide row if 'AssignedTo != 'John Doe')  If I create a condition to hide contents if the AssignedTo = 'John Doe' it creates the XPath expression ../../../Rows/Row/@AssignedTo = 'John Doe'.  When I save it, the row is still visible.  If I edit the XPath expression, changing it to @AssignedTo = 'John Doe' and save it the row is still visible.  The same is true if I simply try to change the background color, conditionally formatted  against the AssignedTo column. Does anyone have any ideas here?              

sharepoint designer work-flow, task attachment enable

Hi I want to creat a sharepoint approval work-flow, which is sequencial so i am devloping it using sharepoint designer, but my chalange is that when it create a task for first approvar it should have an attachment option with task so when first approvar approve and want to attach anything he/she can attach refrence, then it should go to second approval and he also able to check or make additional attachment and so on can any one let me know is it possible and if then how thanks in advance

No permission to open a list pages in Sharepoint Designer 2007


We have a sharepoint site with two main lists.

List 1: I could open the pages, make changes BUT cannot create workflows (for the site).
List 2: I could not even open it. I get the message
"You do not have permission to do this operation. Ask your web site administrator to change your permission and try again, or log on with user account that has this permission ...."

I am secondary server administrator and also have 'full control' of the site.

Any ideas?

Filter and Sort on fields in a joined dataview in SharePoint Designer


I need to create a data view that joins and displays data from two lists, and to sort and group on all of the fields displayed, not just fields from the main list.

I created linked datasource from two of my lists, joined them on a common field, and first inserted fields from the main list. Then I inserted fields from the other list as a Joined Subview,  which worked just fine, but now I need to be able to sort and filter on fields in that joined list, for which there doesn't seem to be an option.

Does anybody know whether it's possible and/or any workarounds/solutions for this? Basically, Is there a way to create a joined view of two lists where all fields are displayed in separate columns, and not in a table within a cell as in a case with joined subview?

Any comments are highly appreciated.


Sharepoint Designer 2007 shows Server timed out



When i try to open a sharepoint site (WSS 3.0) in Sharepoint Designer 2007. It shows a message "Server Timed out". Does anybody know why is it happening. Please help me.
