Validate a People Picker control

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 14, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hi,I would like to validate a People Editor field. I have tried using the property Allow Empty, but unfortunatly it doesnt work. I have used a Required field validator. Luckily it works to some extent. But the problem starts if there is any postback happening on the page. After the postback, it takes the value to be empty even if there is an entry in the control.Could anyone help me if there is any perticular property to be enabled or any other solution to acheive the validations on People Editor Control Raj

Infopath 2010 How to activate the people picker control

I am creating a form where i am populating a people picker with the logged on user. This is fine but how can i then activate the control to get it to lookup the display name and account type.   I am using a rule to set the AccountID field to be the Username function available in rules. Then on the form you have to click on the tick icon to finish the lookup. This is the bit i want to automate.   I also have c# code running in the background so am happy using .NET code to do this.   Thanks   Paul

Problems with People-picker control in a large organisation.

We are experiencing very slow people searches, when trying to pick a user from a SP group containing 500 names. Some people this week have experienced errors after about 10 minutes of waiting. Background: I have a form where the users need to pick an Authoriser. The List of Authorisers is held in a Custom Sharepoint Group. Site column was then built to select people from that SP Group. The good news is the Lookup address book dialog shows the group members OK Unfortunately if the users do a search in this dialog, or from the main form, the server now takes (on average)  around 3 minutes 51s to find the user (from about 500 names), and sometimes fails completely - either with an error, or just returns control to the form with no result. Has Microsoft changed the algorythm for this search to search the entire AD? (I am working in a huge organisation with domains round the world, some are NT4). On a previous project (last year) a similar search only look 2 s! Any suggestions? Any recent Server packs that might impact this (possitively or negatively?) Thanks Ruth, UK

InfoPath 2010, People Picker Control - problem with sharepoint group targeting

Hello!

I have developed InfoPath 2010 web form with People Picker Control. I want to set sharepoint group which would be used in People Picker Control to search people. Ok, I set sharpoint site url and aftet that - select sharepoint group 'Test InfoPath group' I need. Everything works fine - I can select only people inside sharepoint group 'Test InfoPath group'.

Now I deploy my solutions (wsp package) on different site collection and sharepoint server installations. In this case People Picker Control can't find right sharepoint group 'Test InfoPath group'. Sometimes People Picker Control select another group, not that I have select in InfoPath Designer and sometimes People Picker Control select all users.

What's wrong with it and can I configure People Picker Control to select sharepoint group?

People Picker control used in ASP.Net wizard control. Loses values on Postback?

I am using a people picker control in a custom visual web part with Visual Studio 2010, Sharepoint 2010.

The people picker control is on an asp.net wizard control.

On the wizard step with the people picker control, after postback the people picker control has selected values.

But when clicking the next or previous buttons of the wizard control, the people picker control does not retain its selected values.

Microsoft.SharePoint.WebControls.PeopleEditor pe

pe.AllowTypeIn = true;
pe.AutoPostBack = true;
pe.AllowEmpty = true;
pe.MultiSelect = false;
pe.SharePointGroup = "My SP Group Name";
pe.SelectionSet = "SPGroup";
pe.ValidatorEnabled = true;
pe.CommaSeparatedAccounts = pe.CommaSeparatedAccounts;

Any suggestions?

People picker control is taking forever to return results

Hi,

We have been having this issue across all SharePoint Sites in our organization from around a week. The People picker (people search control) control that gets the data from the available user profiles is taking forever to finish. It used to work with first few letters of the person's name but now it is not returning any data for first few letters, it is giving result back only if I type the full name of the person and that too is taking more than 5min to return. How can I fix this issue? All users are getting frustrated as this is most commonly used control in all lists, doc libraries etc.,

Thanks in advance.

GDI+: A Primer on Building a Color Picker User Control with GDI+ in Visual Basic .NET or C#

Although most developers and APIs use the RGB scheme when working with colors, it's not the only available way to represent or select colors. For instance, the standard Windows color-selection dialog box allows you to work with the HSL color scheme in an indirect way. In this article, the author describes several color selection schemes, and uses GDI+ (via the System.Drawing namespace) to create a component that makes it possible for your own applications to provide a simpler, friendlier color chooser. Along the way, you'll get tips to help you use GDI+ in your own apps.

Jquery date picker in ASP.NET Web user control does not work

Hello, I have the most frustrating problem and being new to JQuery does make it more difficult. I have an ASP.NET web user control with an ASP.NET box which I want to apply a JQuery date picker to, then of course I have server side code which takes the date and processes it etc. The date picker will not work. I can achieve a working JQuery date picker with an ASP.NET textbox if there is no user control involved, or within the user control I use a html text box instead, but once I add runat="server" to the text box, it does not work. Is there a way I can achieve this? (the web user control will be wrapped in an update panel too which at the moment will work with the html control/web user control without the server side functionality)

<%@ Register TagPrefix="TE" TagName="JobHistory" Src="test.ascx"%>

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

<head runat="server">

Authentication for people picker

Hi All, People picker failed to track for the domain user. an error says "No Exact match was found"   I have look into many articles and one of it actually did solved my case. But i do not know what is the logic behind.   My web application's app pool is run under local account. When i try to create a site collection and people picker failed to match with domain user. I changed the app pool account(Identity) to a domain account to run the app pool. Then i try to create site collection, and people picker can match with the domain user. I do not know why. Can please brief me on the logic behind? Possible to trace for the domain user while the web app pool is running under local user account? This is a standalone farm but joined to a domain. Whole farm is using local user account to run the service. Thanks in advance.   Regards Jason

User display Name & People Picker

Hi, We wanted to use a web application without user profile service. We have added users their display name is always domain\username. Is it that without user profile service display names will not be updated. But my understanding is that people picker also returns display name. Is it something else we need to configure to get the displayname from the people picker itself.Satheesh
