this might sound really strange..

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 14, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net
Hello guys, I hope this is the right forum to post this. Anyway,  before i replaced my HD with a new one, i backed up everything on an external HD. After installing windows XP, i installed VWD2008 and all was good, then i tried to install SQL server 2005. have no idea why a blue screen popped up. anyway i had no other solution rather than Restoring the System.After system restore, i found out that all of my aspx.cs files are GONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ALL OF THEM.and the strangest thing is that they were deleted from the external HD i had!i did a little research in google. i've found out that system restore might delete *.CS files as they were system files.Okay i might understand that. BUT.. why they were deleted from the external hard drive also?IM really confused.. u really dont care right now what caused this.. i just need help with getting all of my CS files backis there any way ? other than using Reflector software or any Recovery softwares, cuz it did not help at all. PLEASE. HELP ME ASAP!

UI Frontiers: Sound Generation in WPF Applications

A good case could be made that computers should not make noise except in response to a specific user command. We're going to ignore that and show you how to play custom sounds in a WPF application.

So you've got a burning desire to accompany your application's splash screen with a rousing chorus of "Funky Cold Medina" (that's Tone Loc for those of you who aren't children of the 80s). ASP.NET DateTime Conversion strange behaviour

I am working on ASP.NET web application where we are using javascript calendar to accept the date in textboxes. The date format is dd/mm/yyyy. The application is running in US and UK environments.

I am facing issues in US environment while storing the dates so I have added 2 keys in config file viz culture which will be either en-US or en-GB depending on the deployment location and baseCulture which will always be en-GB.

In the code, I have added a condition which checks if culture and baseCulture values are not matching then do the conversion of date in US format.

But I have found that the code converts the date from dd/mm/yyyy to mm/dd/yyyy when the key is baseCulture (en-GB) and it throws FormatException when key is culture (en-US).

I am bit confused by this behaviour. Is this normal? Can any one please explain more about this? Note: I am working on a machine which has en-US as language and culture

<add key="culture" value="en-US" />
<add key="baseCulture" value="en-GB" />
// This line works and converts the date from 26/08/2010 to 08/26/2010
// Here the baseCulture is en-GB.
DateTime dt = DateTime.Parse(txtCurrentDate,baseCulture)

// This line throws FormatException. culture

Very strange error reported in View (Might be a bug in VS2k8?)

As I say in the title of my post this "may" be a bug in VS2k8 Pro, I have seen these strange little things happen before but whenever you utter the word "bug" people tend to get defensive, so I say it "may" be ;)

Basically I have two List(Of MyOwnClass) and I am going to enumerate through these lists on my view.

I add the Import statement to the top of my view so that my custom class can be used on it.

I add a very simple loop,

                    <%For Each CPDCourse As Download In CType(ViewData("CPDAvailable"), List(Of Download))%>
                        <td style="width:100%">
                            <a href="<%=CPDCourse.URL%>">
                            <a href="<%=CPDCourse.URL%>">

strange web service error

I wrote a small little vb.net app that should connect to a MS search server 2010 web service.

I added the web reference, which worked fine, but whenever I run the code, I get this strange error:

I Googled it, but found very little info on it.

Can anyone make sense of it?

Wickedly Strange .Net WPF Performance Problem Dissapeers with Windows 7 Performance Monitor Open

Hello Everyone, I have been developing one large and complex WPF application for 13 months now, all is going well and especially tonight as I now have some sort of clue or hint to what I have been seing now for quite some time.  Here is the rundown. 1) Running on i5 processor with 4GB RAM and Windows 7 2) The application was developed all in .Net 4.0, WPF C#. 3) It is heavily GUI intensive and also uses Entity Framework Detached for Database Access. 4) Is multi-threaded / multi-tasking. I am a nutcase when it comes to testing.  Since my graphical application heavily depends upon performance and determinsm (please somebody don't start with the C++ vs .Net on here) and has been performing great FOR THE MOST PART.  Every once in a while, I see that the application runs into the weeds for 5 or 6 seconds and the interface is unresponsive.  I have this thing tuned finely too.  Well now toward the end of development I have finally had to face that bug so to speak.  I can force it by clicking spastically on my buttons causing an event storm and making the system update the GUI.  SO!  Great start, I can now cause the problem on a regular basis (for you youngsters that is actually a good thing)!  Alright, so I start with the easiest investigative tool, CNTRL - ALT - DEL into Windows 7 Performance Monitor.  As you can tell from

PredictCaseLikelihood - strange result for a simple dataset

Hi, I have a some numbers between 1 and 431 and I want to use PredictCaseLikelyHood to determine the chances that any new number is a valid member of the existing set. My current dataset looks like this: 1 1 1 2 3 3 3 3 4 5 5 6 7 8 10 10 10 10 11 11 12 13 15 15 20 20 20 20 20 20 20 20 20 20 20 22 25 25 25 25 27 30 30 30 30 35 40 40 42 45 45 50 50 50 50 50 50 50 50 50 50 50 58 60 73 80 80 89 90 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 116 140 155 155 200 431   I use clustering to train the model with no holdout set. And I use the Mining Model Prediction Tab to test the PredictCaseLikelihood (normalized) result with a singleton query. As expected, when I enter new numbers between 1 and 431 the returned probability by PredictCaseLikelihood is very high (approx 0.99), however, when I enter positive outliers like 2000, the likelihood is INCREASED to 1, and if I give 2500 and above the likelihood is NaN. Any idea what is causing this strange behaviour? Is my dataset not fit for clustering and in that case why? I use SSAS 2008.   Thanks for any advice, Jørgen

VERY strange behaviour of IE7 and 8!

Today is a day where nothing seems to work out as expected.I'm currently making the HTML and Javascript templates for our new Corporate Page.The thing works as expected in Firefox, Opera, Chrome and IE 6, but not in IE 7 and 8!The "thing" is a menu/submenu written by me in javascript.The way it looks in Firefox etc:The way it looks in IE 7 and 8:There is absolutely no explanation for the strange "rounded" edge on the right and the gradient going over it.The background is a semi-transparent optimized PNG without color profiles which shows up gray in IE 6 and transparent in the other browsers - as expected.On my other developer's computer, it shows up perfectly in both IE 7 and 8.What could possibly create this behaviour?----source:<div class="subMenusContainer"> <div class="subMenu" id="aboutUsMenu"> <a href="/Home/AboutAurora">About AURORA</a> <a href="/Home/AboutErichKrammer">Erich Krammer</a> <a href="/Home/AboutFoundation">AURORA Foundation</a> <a href="/Home/AboutPartners">Partners</a> <a href="/Home/AboutCareers">Careers</a> <a href="/Home/AboutContact">Contacts</a> </div> [snip] <div class="subMenu&q

Strange: Parser Error: Could not load type '_Default'.

i donot have any intentions till now of uploading my web project and just started working on MS VS9.0I made a simple Linq based project (CODE BEHIND used)AS i compiled it i got Parser Error: Could not load type '_Default'.I figured out 2 solutions for this(WHICH I CUDNT FIND IN MANY FORUMS). But nt sure...why doing them solves the problem.SOL 1)The easy way out is to uncheck "place the code in the seperate file" while adding an item.and then adding the statement <%@ Import Namespace="System.Linq" %> on top of ur aspx as in:<%@ Page Language="C#" %><%@ Import Namespace="System.Linq" %><!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">---FURTHER CODE----Sol2)If  we deal whith the CODE behind technique....and have already used "USING System.Linq; in the definition,I found a funny solution to the problem.In ur default page...the top line is<%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="Default.aspx.cs" Inherits="<namespace>.<class>" %>Now if i change the keyword from CodeBehind to CodeFile as in:<%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="Default.aspx.cs" Inherits="<namespace>.<class>

Templatefield CheckBox in gridview acting strange

I have an ASP.NET page that contains a gridview. I have to create columns dynamically based on a datatable, some field type info and some header texts. I do that by creating templates. It created the grid fine and all looks good, however when i click a checkbox and the checkedchanged event fires then something odd happens The first time i click its fine and i get the expected values in the event But the second time then the event gets fired with the values from the first time and then again with the values from the checkbox that i actually clicked.. The third time the event gets fired 3 times, first 2 times with the old values and the third with the correct value. And it just keeps going like that Furthermore Let us say i have 10 checkboxes that are checked when i uncheck one the checkedchanged event fires but if i check it again the event doesnt fire and also if i have unchecked 3 checkboxes(and get the extra events) then if i check one of them again i get 2 checked changed events fired for the ones that are still unchecked but no event gets fired for the box that i checked  so now im just baffled   See pastebin link below for code: http://pastebin.com/stcwqsYa

Strange Problem - SSIS Fails with "Syntax error, permission violation, or other nonspecific error".

Hello, I have a strange issue while I am deploying a package to one of the environment server. I have 2 XML Source, in the DataFlow, and one will extracted based on a value of variable that is passed from run time (package is executed from a Job) and other will be extracted all time. The next Step I have is a Execute SQL Task in ControlFlow wihich will execute after DataFlow. This has 2 input parameters and some SQL query that uses the param. Now this one fail on the target environment with below error: failed with the following error: "Syntax error, permission violation, or other nonspecific error". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly. I got the error when I did a SSIS Text File Log. Note: If I run the package in BIDS with the same XML files it work. Also when I deploy the package to my Dev Server it works. When I compare the Dev DB with the target environment DB - Both are same. The Service Acount has permission - as I can see the DataFlow task completed. Another Point: The XML Load Data Flow that executes based on the Variable Value does not execute on target environment, even if the value is passed as "True" (It is Boolean Type) But this variable is NOT an input for the Execute SQL task that fails. I am not sure w

Strange Authentication Behavior...

I have an installation of SSRS 2008 that is exhibiting some very odd behavior with regards to authentication and permissions. I have SSRS installed on a box called SERVER1 and I'm a local admin on the box and an Administrator on the SSRS instance. This box has an IP address of When I go to the Report Manager URL, I see everything I should (Home, Site Settings, etc.) I'm able to go in and set up security and create folders and everything. What's odd is that if I use the IP address instead of the server name in the Report Manager URL, I get to the home page but there is nothing displayed, only Home, My Subscriptions, and Help. There are no report folders visible and the options available to admins aren't visible. One thing that may shed some light on things: if I do a ping -a on the IP address, it resolves to the host name. If I ping the host name, I get back a reply from ::1: I have no idea why permissions would differ between a host name and an IP address if they're the same server?? Any insight would be appreciated!A. M. Robinson

Strange for loop problem

Hi, I have this problem with moving a number of documents stored in a SharePoint Document Libray progamatically.The Document library is called "CR" which stores Change Management word documents.  Within this document library there may or may not be a folder which stores attachments (other documents, pictures etc) associated with the CR Document. When a button is pressed this code should see if the CR document has a corresponding folder, and then iterate through each file in that folder and move it to another archive folder.The code I have is as follows:SPList crlist = CR.Web.Lists["CR"]; for (int i = 0; i < crlist.Folders.Count; i++) { if (crlist.Folders[i].Folder.Name == "CR " + CR["CR Number"]) { for (int ii = 0; ii < crlist.Folders[i].Folder.Files.Count; ii++) { crlist.Folders[i].Folder.Files[ii].MoveTo(folderlist.RootFolder.ServerRelativeUrl + "/" + year.ToString() + "/" + WorkflowItem.Title + "/" + crlist.Folders[i].Folder.Files[ii].Name); } } }CR is list item (codument) which this code is working on at the time.crList is the sharepoint docu
