Creating Paging for a Repeater Control

A common question is "How do I implement paging within a Repeater?" Although the beauty of the Repeater control is its flexibility, you're on your own for building most functions. ASP.NET 2.0 has included some new controls that provide paging, as does the DataGrid in ASP.NET 1.1. However, this tip shows you how to roll your own paging for a simple data viewer.

Advanced Basics: Creating A Breadcrumb Control

Hansel and Gretel had the right idea when "they followed the pebbles that glistened there like newly minted coins, showing them the way. " The deeper you get into the forest or into your data, the more likely you are going to need help to find your way back out again.

Advanced Basics: Creating a Five-Star Rating Control

I have to admit it; most of my Windows® Forms controls are an attempt to copy something that already exists. In my October 2004 column I showed you how to create a progress bar that mimicked the one shown during the Windows XP setup routine, and this month I'm at it again.

Creating a volume control slider/setting one template property based on another

So, what I want to do, is to make a volume control that looks like a right angle triangle with the 90 degree angle on the bottom right, and then when you click on it, the area to the left of the selected point is shown in a different color.  In other words, I've created a slider with the right background, what I can't do, is work out how to show the selected area by filling in the triangle.  I have worked out how to bind the height of my triangle on the left to the value of the control, but right now, the rate of rise is exactly half of what I need it to be.  I need to know how to change the template for the area to the left of the selection ( which is the repeat button ) so that the background is twice the height that it is right now.  No matter what size I make the slider, the area is always 1/2 the size it needs to be, so I am sure if I could get it to double inside my template, it would work fine. <ResourceDictionary xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation"     xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml">       <Style x:Key="SliderButtonStyle" TargetType="{x:Type RepeatButton}">         <Setter Property="SnapsToDevicePixels" Value="true"/>         <

Creating Custom ASP.NET Control for use on a SharePoint 2010 OOTB WebPart

I am currently trying to develop a custom asp.net control that can be deployed to SharePoint 2010 and then included on something like a New item form. I have been able to build the control as part of a webpart but it needs to be done as a stand alone control that can be used on various webparts including the out of the box webparts like the WebPartPages:DataFormWebPart. Are there any good examples of building a custom control, deploying it to SharePoint and then using SharePoint designer to add that control to an existing web part?

Error Creating Control - 'asp:UpdatePanelAnimationExtender' could not be set on property 'Animati

It doesn't seem to matter what I try to make the animation do, I keep getting this shown in the designer. No one else on google seems to be getting that problem either. Note: it doesn't cause debugging or runtime issues... in fact, the only negative thing it does is make it extremely annoying when I look at the designer... I'm going to have about 12 of these updatepanelanimations firing everytime the timer ticks too :(. MasterPage file has the toolkitscriptmanager on it. Here is my designer code for the page I'm having the issue on:<%@ Page Title="" Language="vb" AutoEventWireup="false" MasterPageFile="~/MasterPage.Master" CodeBehind="TimeLine.aspx.vb" Inherits="TimeLine.WebForm1" %> <%@ Register Assembly="AjaxControlToolkit" Namespace="AjaxControlToolkit" TagPrefix="asp" %> <asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="ContentPlaceHolder1" runat="server"> <asp:Timer ID="Timer1" runat="server" Interval="7000"> </asp:Timer> <asp:Panel ID="Panel1" runat="server" Height="285px" HorizontalAlign="Center" Width="970px" BackImageUrl="~/Images/Img.jpg"> <br />

Ajax Control Toolkit Error Creating Control

Error Creating Control - ToolkitScriptManager1Unknown server tag 'asp:ToolkitScriptManager'.Error Creating Control - ComboBox1Unknown server tag 'asp:ComboBox'.I encountered this error, very annoying becasue it would shut off design view rendering of ComboBoxes as well as entire parent containers like ListViews.  It took me a lot of efforts to hunt down the cause, which would seem very illogical if not weird.  So I am suspecting that it is just happening to me, but would appreciate if somebody could care to reproduce and see if it is actually a bug.Cause: HtmlHead title tag has textFix: Delete text in HtmlHead title tagSteps to reproduce and verify error:1. Creating mixed logo and text scrolling control

Hello I have a scrolling control that I use for text.   After a while, I switched to a picture combining the text messages and a logo in between.  So the process became: 1. Get message. 2. Get logo. 3. Create a picture of the text messages and the logo in between. 4. Scroll the picture. All was in the plain C# language.   My question is if I can do the same with WPF without creating a picture?   Thanks Eli

Error Creating Control - ConfigurationManager

I create a new control. At the new fuction, invoque a ConfigurationManager.GetSection method to obtain a property.

Public Sub New()

_style As ClassStyle = DirectCast(ConfigurationManager.GetSection("configurationSection"), ClassStyle)

End Sub

In a new webpage, insert the new control and obtain "Error Rendering Control - Object reference not set to an instance of an object". Debugging Visual Studio 2008, the method ConfigurationManager.GetSection("configurationSection") is Nothing.

Can't vs2008 resolve configuration section in design mode?

Sorry for my english.

Visual Studio 2010 - Design Mode Error - "Error Creating Control"

I am using Visual Studio 2010.  I was debugging a web application and an exception happened and VS 2010 froze.  I ended the VS 2010 in the task manager and when I went back to developing, I found on every form for every ASP.net control I get:

Error Creating Control -

Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component.

Also I am unable to edit  the form or add anything from the toolbox.

Any help on this matter will be appreciated.

Error Creating Control ReportViewer1

I recently downloaded Visual Web Developer Express 2010 and I am having difficulty with the report viewer control. I also downloaded the reportviewer 2010 redistibutable and added a reference to my site.  When I drag and drop from the toolbox in design view the controls error is: Failed to create designer "Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ReportViewer, Microsoft.Reportviewer.WebForms, version= culture=neutral PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a.  It works when I view it in the browser and the report renders fine but I don't have access to it in design mode.  Also, when I attempt to view a rdlc file it's the xml version instead of design mode.

I have a trial version of Visual Studio on another computer so I created a reportviewer website and opened this site with the Visual Web Developer Express 2010.  The web.config relating to the reportviewer is below.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.  There isn't much on the web to fix this problem.
