Dropdownlist ListItems issue

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 14, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net
Hello All- I am loading Dropdownlist items from an xml file.  Items get loaded.  The load code is under Page load event. The problem is every time page postbacks, i lose the items ... not sure how I can retain in the DDL.  I check querystring value and select the listitem (selectedvalue=qs).  If querystring is missing I select the default first item.  If querystring is incorrect (not existing in list of DDL values) I use the default value.  I have been struggling with this code for long time now... Here's my code- if (!Page.IsPostBack) { LoadDropDownList(); try { DropDownListTemplates.SelectedValue = Request.QueryString["t"].ToString(); } catch (Exception) { DropDownListTemplates.SelectedIndex = -1; } } Is there a better way to load XML data in to dropdownlist other then looping selected records?

dropdownlist controls in gridview issue

 the below code creates drop down each time i add a category to the database table. however, i don't wish to have drop down created each time - how can i have all my data in one drop down? thanks...  <asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:CascadingDropDownTestConnectionString %>"  SelectCommand="SELECT [CategoryID], [CategoryName] FROM [Category]">  </asp:SqlDataSource>    <asp:GridView ID="GridView1" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="False" DataKeyNames="CategoryID"  DataSourceID="SqlDataSource1">  <Columns>  <asp:BoundField DataField="CategoryID" HeaderText="CategoryID" InsertVisible="False"  ReadOnly="True" SortExpression="CategoryID" />  <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Categories">  <ItemTemplate>  <asp:DropDownList ID="ddlCategories" AutoPostBack="true" DataTextField="CategoryName"  DataValueField="CategoryID" DataSourceID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server" AppendDataBoundItems="true"  SelectedValue='<%# Bind("CategoryID") %>' />  &

DropDownList issue

I wonder if anyone can help with this 'design' issue I have.

I have a drop down list which itself is part of a list as below:

Repeater item

Next repeater item

I use ajax panels as well as autopostback on the list so a user selects an item from any DDL and the event is triggered great

I've also added a little helper button for those without javascript enabled - all the button does is initiate a postback

So for those without javascript - they will see

Repeater item

    DDL button

Next reapeater item

    DDL button

Again this works fine, unless the user selects from bothe the drop down lists then presses one of the buttons, in which case both list change exvents are fired.  Is there a way I can stop the second event from firing once the first one is initiated - i.e resetting the selected index change flag for other events or do I need to selectively set the onindexchange call based on whether javascript is available or not?

Thanks in advance.

jQuery: Styling DropDownList Alternating Items (Rows)

In the following example, I will show how you can style any asp:dropdownlist very easily.

The example demonstrates how you can change alternating row items background color, using the fadeTo() to add a nice touch in the dropdownlist. You can change alt rows with a couple lines.

Working with DropDownList and ListBox Controls in ASP.NET

ASP.NET DropDownList Web Control, Part 1

Anybody with much experience in ASP has written an include file function for populating the contents of a SELECT dropdown list with entries from a database. Some of the more advanced users have even gone so far as to add caching to their function to reduce database hits for these rarely changing menu options. Naturally, these same techniques are going to be used with ASP.NET, but with a new programming object model. ASP.NET provides a web control, the DropDownList, which can be used for the same purposes as our custom built SELECT tag from Classic ASP.

Declaring a DropDownList in ASP .Net

A DropDownList is also commonly known as combo box. It can contain multiple data members, but unlike a normal list box the users can choose only one value from this control. Though the functionality of this DropDownList is much like a Single Row Select List Box, a DropDownList can save a lot of GUI space as it is rendered on a Single line and is expanded only when the user clicks on the Control

Multiple Column Dropdownlist for the ASP.NET DataGrid

Based on my previous control "Multiple Column DropDownList for ASP.NET", I received many emails asking for the same control to be used in the DataGrid for web applications. Here we go.. This control can be used as the regular MS DropDownList in the DataGrid and also as a regular dropdownlist. It has all the properties, like DataTextField, DataValueField, DataSource, SelectedIndex etc. The download file contains the samples both in VB.NET and C#. In this sample, I have used the Northwind database of SQL Server.

ASP.NET Multiple Selection DropDownList with AJAX HoverMenuExtender

Recently, I was looking for a multiple selection dropdownlist control for my new project. After spending some time researching for it, I decided to put together all my finding in one web user control. This web user control consists of an ASP.NET AJAX HoverMenuExtender, JavaScript, StyleSheet and CheckBoxListExCtrl . The final product will work with or without a MasterPage and you can drag and drop more than one instances of the control on to the page.

How to bind GridView and DropDownList controls using DataTable object

In .net framework 2.0, you can load a DataTable in memory by consuming a data source using a DataReader. In this version you will find the flexibility in accessing the DataReader means write access code once and use again and again using DataReader. To see the functionality of DataTable consider an example that is created using VS2005.

IsapiModule Error 500 Issue

I am about exhausted trying to figure out this error:

HTTP Error 500.0 - Internal Server Error

Description: The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred.

Error Code: 0x8007007b

Notification: ExecuteRequestHandler

Module: IsapiModule

Requested URL: http://localhost:80/ReportServer

Physical Path: c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\Reporting Services\ReportServer

When I enable Failed Request Tracing Rules and view the log output I am supposing that the actual problem is in the 2nd call where there are 2 backslashes before the actual filename in the specified path:

CALL_ISAPI_EXTENSION DllName="C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\\aspnet_isapi.dll"

MVC2 issue - Stuck. Trying to create a cms with nested partials

I am currently trying to display multiple items on a single page. I am not sure as to how to tackle this. What I have is a database table that has all the page data in. I have this run as a PagesController and this works fine. However what I would like to do is, if say the Products page is selected via the menu, I want to pull back not only the Products page html but also get all the products, and even be able to pull them through via category. I was trying to use a partial view, but I can't get it to work. The same would be for other pages, having partial views to display the other content, ie if Gallery is selected, the page html for Gallery shows and it then can push to a partial view that pulls all the gallery images from the gallery db table and so on.

Maybe I am tackling this the wrong way. I have the pages stored in the db to allow for a CMS system I have setup. Maybe I need to use models for all the other items(Products, Gallery, Videos and such) and use the partial for the page html?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am confused.
