SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 (KB955706) update is successful but repeats installin

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 (KB955706) (update 1 of 1) This update seems to be stuck in a loop of installing, each time it successfull installs acccording to automatic updates. Then says it requires installing again straight away. This has been happening for 10 days now. I have tried a manual update from the website rather than automatic updates, no change. Any ideas why? Have posted in Windows update which is where I think the problem lies but they have suggested I post here also.

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 (KB955706) - will not download.install on W

This has all ready taken me hours and hours of my time with no success (after following the fixes mentioned on this site). I look forward to suggestions at to how to proceed that may actually work. Many thanks cdbc81

Which SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack to Install?

I have Windows 2008 Small Business Server Standard Edition.  When I scan for updates I get two different SQL service packs showing up, with the same KB955706 number.  I'm wondering which I should install, or if both, what order to install them in?  The first one is labeled: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 The second one is labeled: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services Service Pack 3 For applications, I have Blackbaud The Financial Edge v7.78 (accounting package for clubs) installed that uses SQL Server 2005 Express Edition for its database engine.  The new upgrade for this software requires SP3 which is why I need to know which service pack to install.  Also, please let me know if there are any tricks to getting the service packs installed on 2008 SBS Standard Edition.  I know sometimes registry settings need to be changed for SQL service packs to be installed properly. Thank you for your help.

Search Server Express 2010 - Access Denied when attempting to manage Search Service Application or P

I first noticed this error with the Search Service Application when I was no longer able to use the search portal, but have since noticed the issue with the PowerPoint Service Application.  When I navigate in Central Administration to either the "Farm Search Administration" or the "Manage service applications" pages and attempt to manage the "Search Service Application", I get this error: Error: Access Denied  Current User You are currently signed in as:  WHEELERS\MyUserName   Sign in as a different user    I have tried removing the service application and re-adding it, changing the application pool to running under an existing application pool as the farm administrator, as another application pool with the same identity as the primary web application, and as another application pool running under the SP-SearchService identity. The big recent change with SharePoint, aside from fixing the previous issue where I was incorrectly using CNAMEs with Kerberos, was to switch the main web application to claims authentication. That site correctly works with claims based authentication and Kerberos.

SQL Server 2008 R2 Installation and Service Pack 1 Question

I am migrating a SQL 2000 server to a SQL 2008 R2 server (on different physical servers) . When I ordered SQL Server 2008 the volume licensing allowed me to download sql server web 2008, sql server web 2008 R2 and sql server 2008 service pack 1. I don't know why I have three options to download. Don't I just need to just install the sql server 2008 Web R2? Are there any sql 2008 R2 service packs available?

Uable to successfully install SQL Server 2005 (Express Edition) Service Pack 3 (KB955706)

After repeated attempts, I am unable to install the MSSQL Server 2005 (Express Edition) Service Pack 3 (KB955706).  From Live Update, the installation initializes but then reports that it was unable to install.  The first couple of times I received Error Code 0x65B, but that doesn't come up any longer. I have ACT! Database version 2007 (9.0) and it is unable to access the database to open it because it uses the MSSQL??  Also, there used to be an MSSQL icon below in my system tray, but that no longer appears.  When I reboot it will be on briefly, but then goes away.. MS Customer Support has attempted to help (Case ID SRX1135612820) but now tell me that this is beyond their expertise.  They had me try to reload MMSQL 2005 but no change. Please help! Thanks!!  Terry

Service pack for SQL Server 2008 R2

Hi all, I did SQL Server 2008 R2  Installation,I want update with Service packs,Please help what are latest services packs available.       Thanks in AdvanceSNIVAS

SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 available on Microsoft Update (MU)

Service Pack 2 for SQL Server 2005, SQL Server 2005 Express, Server 2005 Server 2005 Express Advanced, and Server 2005 Express Toolkit has been published to Microsoft Update at http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx.

If a SQL Server 2005 component is not on SP2 then the SP2 update will be offered for each language and platform that we support. This update is only available as an optional update on the Microsoft Update web site. To see the update you need to choose "Custom" scan.

The Express updates; Express, Express Advanced, and Express Toolkit will be automatically download and installed, if you have accepted to receive updates through Microsoft Update and you have enable automatic updates on you Windows machines. You can also see the update directly on the Microsoft Update web site.

All of these updates will be available through WSUS so an IT admin can control deployment of these updates through their enterprise.

Customers can optionally obtain SQL Server SP1 through Microsoft Update if they hide the SP2 update.

Service Pack and Build to SQL SERVER 2005

Dear Sirs,
I installed the SQL SERVER 2005 and found that the latest service pack for it's SP3.
But the site http://support.microsoft.com/kb/960598/en-us, I noticed that there are several "builds" (cumulative update) to apply too.
My question is: after applying SP3 to SQL 2005, I need to install all the cumulative update's from 1 to 11, or the latter accumulates all previous fixes?
What must be done in this case?
Now, thank you the attention and collaboration.

Search server 2010 setup - error creating search service application

I am running in a very similar siutation as this post:

I am configuring a new Search Server 2010 production environment.

I used the search setup account to run the setup and run the SharePoint Products Configuration Wizard.

During the first run of the SharePoint configuration wizard (where the farm account and service applications are setup), the process failed because the search service application could not be created.

Errors were encountered during the configuration of the Search Service Application.
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: User does not have permissiont to perform this action.

I was under the assumption that the setup account had securityadmin and dbcreator SQL Server roles.  However, this was not the case and I had them added.  My original thought was the setup failed because of this.  After those roles were added, I tried to recreate the search service application and I still get a failure.

I am pretty sure I have followed the prerequisites as prescribed by Microsoft in terms of account setup (

Security Update for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 (KB970892) could not be installed

Auto updates picked up this update to install but it wouldn't install. I tried doing it manually with no success. Anyone run across this?I have the service pack 2 with updates already. What would cause this?

SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack or Hotfix for ReportExecutionService2005 broken with IMAGE/EMF

Posted by edwardforgacs on 8/23/2010 at 4:13 AM
Vlad_MSFT, any update on the ExecutionInfo.NumPages workaround? It's well over a month since you posted to this thread and by the looks of it I'm not the only person who is unable to get any useful information out of that.

As Bob_eBlueprint mentioned, it always seems to return zero. Do you actually have a tested code sample where it works?
Posted by edwardforgacs on 7/20/2010 at 2:11 AM
Yes, ExecutionInfo does not return the number of pages properly either. I have tried every possible combination including GetExecutionInfo, GetExecutionInfo2, before and after render, and combined with Render, and Render2. Guess we need to open another bug about GetExecutionInfo not working in 2008 either?
Posted by Bob_eBlueprint on 7/9/2010 at 10:32 AM
I tried using the code posted by JasonRAC, but I am not getting an exception thrown when I try to render a page that doesn't exist. Instead a zero byte array is returned. So I'm using code like this to stop rendering when the end of the report is researched:

        Dim DidPageLoad As Boolean
        Dim TempPage As Byte()

Can't install Service Pack 3 for SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services

I just installed a stand-alone SQL Server 2005 reporting services on a 64-bit Server 2008 machine without receiving any errors.  I have not configured reporting services yet, but I'd like to patch it with Service pack 3. However, when I execute Service Pack 3, it won't let me check the box for reporting services.  I've rebooted, etc.  The database is not installed on this server, just reporting services.

I have performed many searches, but I have not seen anyone with a similar problem.  What can I do so that it allows me to check the box during service pack installation?

SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 Setup

I am attempting to upgrade a SQL Server 2005 install on a Windows XP SP2 machine and every time I run the SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 Setup, I get to the page for Authentication and click next.  Then a dialog pops up that says Authentication Verification: Please wait while your authentication is verified.  It hangs here for a few minutes and then eventually shuts down the machine.  Has anyone experienced this before?  I can run the SP2 ugrade on the machine just fine and it goes through the authentication step without issue.  I tried uninstalling sql server and reinstalling it to make sure it wasn't something with the sql server install.  I also tried to clean up space on the machine to ensure it wasn't a memory issue.  Then i thought it was something with permissions so I had another person with admin rights try it on the machine and the same thing happened for them.  What could the upgrade possibly be trying to check during authentication that would cause it to freeze up and hang?

I checked the HotFix.log that gets generated and the bottom lines are
Registry: Opened registry key "System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager"
Registry: Cannot read registry key value "PendingFileRenameOperations", error 5
