Posted By:      Posted Date: September 14, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
On my homepage, after giving a search command in the general search box, the page says there is no indexing function applyed. I have looked through the site settings and central administration but cant find anything related. Take note this is on sharepoint foundation, not sure if that makes a difference or not. Thanks

Team Foundation Server and WSS 3.0 SharePoint Service Search not visible

I am having issues with setting up SharePoint Search service on the TFS 2008 server WSS 3.0. The Windows SharePoint Service Search service doesn't appear in Central Administration>Operations>Services on Server page. Only the Central Administration, Windows SharePoint Services Incoming E-Mail, and Windows SharePoint Services Web Application appear. I have Windows SharePoint Service Search running through Services in Windows and still it doesn't appear on the page to configure it. The service account that this service running under has db_reader role access to the WSS_Content database and is a db_owner for the WSS_AdminContent and WSS_Config database as well as for the WSS_Search database. I have executed iisreset and even rebooted the server to no avail. The installation/set up of TFS was done prior to me join the team. It was a default set up with dual servers. The Event Logs show nothing out of the ordinary to help me troubleshoot the issue. Does anyone have any other suggestions I should try or other things I should be looking for? Thank you in advance, WillWill Piedmont

Sharepoint 2010 Foundation with Search Server Express

I have Sharepoint 2010 Foundation with Search Server Express installed. The Sharepoint was an upgrade from WSS v3 and search server express 2003.

After the upgrade whenever users search from the main site I get web part errors displayed on the search page. I think because it is trying to use the old search server express which is no longer installed.

Search Server Express 2010 is now installed and a Search Center web page can be viewed however when searching via the entire sites I site the web page with web part errors.

Any thoughts or any further information you require I can provide.

Sharepoint Foundation 2010 and Search Server Express

Can I get some clarification on a couple of points?

Firstly, what is the recommended installation path for SPFoundation and Search Server Express on the same server.  Do I just install SSE 2010?  Or SPF 2010 and then SSE 2010?

Secondly, when the two are installed together how do I add the a SSE 2010 search center link to my SPF 2010 site so I can search all crawled content?  I've created crawls of Exchange public folders and file shares but when I use the built-in site search box it's only returning content crawled from the local site and not anything from the other crawls.

Integrating Sharepoint Foundation 2010 and Search Server Express

I've been searching for ways to do this but I haven't come up with anything.  Surely this is a very common need/want.  Basically I want to use Sharepoint Foundation 2010 but I would like to run Search Server Express in the same installation.  Additionally instead of going to a dedicated search page and then searching, I'd like to add the Search Server Express search functionality as a Web Part to the Sharepoint Foundation home page.  Is there any documented procedures to this?  If not how have you done it?

Manually specify database name for Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Search Service Settings

Hi Team,

I wanted to specify database name manually for Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Search Service under Application management | Manage services on server | Sharepoint Foundation Search . Under Search database settings,  it says 'Use of the default database server and database name is recommended for most cases. Refer to the administrator's guide for advanced scenarios where specifying database information is required.' . Specifying database name field is coming grayed out and can't have option to specify my own database name. Any help to specify database name for foundation search will be highly ppreciated.

Sharepoint 2010 Foundation vs Search Server 2010 Express

Does Search Server 2010 Express include Sharepoint Foundation? Or do I need to install Sharepoint first and then install Search Server on top? This is for a brand new install on a single server.

Sharepoint Foundation is giving no search results

My situation :

I installed 2 new WFE servers with SharePoint Foundation 2010 on Server 2008 R2 Standard. The Database is running on a SQL 2008 R2 cluster with a dedicated instance for SharePoint. I've prepared the new environment for the db restore from my old wss 3 environment.

I took a back-up of the WSS_Content DB from my WSS 3 environment and Resotored this on the new instance for the new SharePoint Foundation environment. Using the stsadm i've attached the WSS_Content DB to the new webapplication that i have created.

Im able to brouwse the new environment with my old content, everything works fine exapt, SEACH ; givings me no results.

The SharePoint Foudation Seach Serivice is running on my 1st WFE server and i have added this server as the defauls search server for the WSS_Content DB. I have used domain user accounts for the Sharepoint Seach service and Crawl account.

I did those steps twice but seach still not working! Hope someone can help me!

ps; sorry for my bad English.

Search Problem with SharePoint Foundation on SBS 08

I upgraded to Sharepoint foundation 2010 on my SBS 2008 server that I just set up, and followed the instructions in this whitepaper: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff959273%28WS.10%29.aspx

I followed this guide to the letter, and cannot get the search working for my sharepoint site.  When I first tried it, it errored out with the following message:

Your search cannot be completed because this site is not assigned to an indexer. Contact your administrator for more information.

Googling that provided a solution, to go into central admin, manage content databases, ShareWebDB and select a search server, which there is only one choice (which is the name of the server).

That seemed to make the search work, but it can't ever find anything, even stuff I know is there.  I went and looked in the event viewer, and found this:

Log Name: Application
Source: Microsoft-SharePoint Products-SharePoint Foundation Search
Date: 10/13/2010 10:30:27 PM
Event ID: 14
Task Category: Gatherer
Level: Warning
Computer: SERVERNAME.DOMAIN.local Description: The start address sts4://SERVERNAME/contentdbid={2c1f1945-23

The Select Microsoft SharePoint Foundation search server drop down is greyed out.

I am trying to select a server that is running the Microsoft SharePoint Foundation search service but the drop down is disabled.  I have verifed that that SharePoint Foundation Search V4 is started.  But when I go to Central Adminstration > Manage Content Database Settings > and choose my content database it won't let me select a search server.  I only have one SharePoint Server so the search service is local.

Thank you

Sharepoint Foundation 2010 - How to search non MS office documents

I came across the following article

The article states the following

"I discovered that SharePoint Foundation does not allow iFilters. Therefore, pdfs cannot be scanned and cannot be included in Search. This is going to be a major bummer for some people.
Fortunately, solutions involving SharePoint Server 2010 and SharePoint Search do exist. As you may know, both these products are not free, and there are some constraints about where and how Search can be installed.
After quite a bit of research on the “Search” dilemma, I’ve been successful in discovering the solution to the problem for SharePoint Foundation 2010 clients. It cannot be found in the SharePoint 2010 manual and it was by no means easy."

The solution is NOT provided so I don't even know if this is even real...

Anyway my question is, does anybody knows a way to Search non office documents with Sharepoint Foundation 2010 (like pdf's, jpeg, etc.)?

Thank you!

Sharepoint 2010 Foundation search question

I'm new to Sharepoint and have just setup 2010 Foundation.  I know that it's search will only index the contents of Office docs and that you can't install ifilters in Foundation.  However, I would think that all documents uploaded to a doc library should be searchable by file name, is that correct?  However, using pdf's has an example, in my testing, search results come up empty when searching for keywords in the filename.  In order to make these files searchable, I have to edit their properties and add a Title.

I know that not all users will bother to manually add a Title to all documents, so we need to be able to find files by their names, how is this possible?

SharePoint Foundation - Search Server Express 2010 "upgrade" ?

I have an existing install of SP2010 Foundation. Can I just install Search Server Express 2010 on the WFE server and connect it to the existing farm? Or can I "upgrade" SP2010 Foundation to Search Server Express 2010?

"SharePoint Foundation Help Search" support Central admin running as HTTPS?

I'm getting the following error after enabling SSL on the SharePoint Central Admin web application each time the timer job runs every hour.  Does the "SharePoint Foundation Help Search" support Central admin running as HTTPS?    I verified the certificate public key is installed in the "Managed Trust" list.  The site is using NTLM for authentication.
