Hi All, We are facing this issue in one of our site, when accessing the folder from Manage content structure. Folder is inside a list which uses a folder content type. When we try to open this folder use manage content and structure it throws access denied. any idea how we can check this as we the permissions are properly inherited and all the folders are checked in . Please update what else we can check.   Thanks, Jasjeet SIngh

"Access is denied. Check that the Default Content Access Account has access to this content"

Our search is not working. The crawl log indicates following error: "Access is denied. Check that the Default Content Access Account has access to this content, or add a crawl rule to crawl this content. (The item was deleted because it was either not found or the crawler was denied access to it.)".

If I check the event viewer, it indicates following error: "Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE'. [CLIENT: <local machine>]"

My default content access account is another one than this NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE account. The content access account password is correct. Apparently this content access account is translated to the NETWORK SERVICE account upon a crawl. And this network service account doesn't has the appropriate rights on database level. How can I fix this?

Access denied to folder in ASP.NET project either though I have granted all users full permissions !

i have made a very simple file upload app, that i want users to be able to upload images to a folder on my server, well localhost for the time being Stick out tongue

"Only their own" allows users to edit, then shows access denied page

I am managing a WSS 3.0 portal.  I have created custom lists where a group has contribute permissions.  Under List Settings|Advanced Settings, when I set Edit Access to "Only their own" or "None", my test users can see the Edit Icon and the Edit Item menu option, and bring up the Edit Form.  When they click "OK", they get the Access Denied page.  My experience in that past is that they should not even been shown the option to edit, and they should get Access Denied if they somehow navigate to the EditForm.aspx page.  I even tested this on a brand new site, with three Links lists, each with different Edit Access Levels (All, None, Only their own).  I added one user with contribute permissions.  He had the same result: He could get all the way to EditForm.aspx, but got "Access Denied" when he submitted his changes.  What can I do to fix this?Christopher W. Search Server Express 2010 - Access Denied when attempting to manage Search Service Application or P

I first noticed this error with the Search Service Application when I was no longer able to use the search portal, but have since noticed the issue with the PowerPoint Service Application.  When I navigate in Central Administration to either the "Farm Search Administration" or the "Manage service applications" pages and attempt to manage the "Search Service Application", I get this error: Error: Access Denied  Current User You are currently signed in as:  WHEELERS\MyUserName   Sign in as a different user    I have tried removing the service application and re-adding it, changing the application pool to running under an existing application pool as the farm administrator, as another application pool with the same identity as the primary web application, and as another application pool running under the SP-SearchService identity. The big recent change with SharePoint, aside from fixing the previous issue where I was incorrectly using CNAMEs with Kerberos, was to switch the main web application to claims authentication. That site correctly works with claims based authentication and Kerberos.

Access is denied when creating Alert me on a folder level permission is this a known bug?

Hi, A user is getting an Access Denied error when creating an Alert Me on a folder level. The security set to the user is, Read access to the list but without permission to Create an alert, and he has a Contributor access to the folder. The security was perfect, he can't create an alert to a list level, but Alert Me is available on a folder level. When the user clicks on the Alert Me on a specific folder it will bring him to the alert configuration page, BUT, he would get an Access Denied error when hitting the OK(Save) button. Is this a known issue in Item/folder level security? The fact that Sharepoint allows user to see Alert Me function I assume that it should function correctly, but this is not the case. Hope to hear from you guys! TIA!

Create List Sharepoint Client Object Model Access Denied

I am trying to create a silverlight application by making use of the SharePoint 2010 Client Object Model using the following code:

private void CreateList(object sender, ClientRequestFailedEventArgs e)
  ClientContext ctx = new ClientContext("http://server");
  ListCreationInformation lc = new ListCreationInformation();
  lc.Title = "FlexiTime";
  lc.Description = "";
  lc.TemplateType = (int)ListTemplateType.GenericList;
  List newList = ctx.Web.Lists.Add(lc);
  System.Threading.ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem(new WaitCallback(CreateListCallback), ctx);

private void CreateListCallback(object s)
  var context = (ClientContext)s;

The error I receive is as follows:

restrict access for a single group to a single folder in a list

Hello and Goodmorning,

I have one list, organized with 3 folders.

I can create a group(s), add user(s) to this group(s).

Now i need to assign access like this:  group1 can only see and 'readonly' folder1, group2 can only see and 'readonly' folder2, group3 can only see and 'readonly'...folder3!

Im sure this is possible, from similar non-programming posts on the forum.

I have been looking into SPRoleAssignment and SPRoleDefinition to define Group permissions but its the mapping them to specific folders that I am missing...

Enjoy your tea.

Add managed metadata column to list - access denied + terms not visible in lists

Firstly the following is not a problem for users given "Full Control" (and possibly other permission levels might work) at the web application level in central admin.

For any other user with permissions set at site collection level, even "site owners" (full control) , these problems arise.

  1. When adding managed metadata columns to a new document library list, clicking save results in multiple access denied errors getting logged (as seen using UlsViewer) and an exception is raised (sharepoint error page)
  2. In existing document library lists managed metadata column headings are displayed in list views but the terms text is not displayed.
This problem shows up even if the logged on user is the term set owner.  "Available for tagging" is enabled, submissions policy is closed.
Looking at http://<the-site-domain>/Lists/TaxonomyHiddenList/AllItems.aspx and then checking list permissions I can see that "All Authenticated Users" has Read permission level.
Integrated windows authentication - NTLM + Claims Based Authentication is the only authentication method used. It's an intranet site.

Thanks in advance for any help.

 The browser will generate this error message when the Button3 is clicked.

Edit access denied on publishing site - content db upgrade

There was a problem a while back in MOSS that caused users with proper rights to get access denied messages when attempting to edit or create items... something to do with the PermMask field needing the RenderXMLUsingPattern attribute to be set to true.

In a publishing site that was content db upgraded to 2010, I'm seeing the same issue, but PermMask is fine.  The problem seems to be with the "Publishing Site with Workflow" site template, because if I create a new subsite in this collection and give a content management user group any level of rights to it, including full control, the error persists in the new subsite.  However, if I create a vanilla team site in the collection, there's no issue.  The site collection has also been backed up and restored in a test environment to isolate any farm- or server-related issues.  Edit: both environments are also patched to August CU.

Anyone find a way around this without resorting to demolition?

In the logs, I'm seeing the following lines (user actually has 0x7FFFFFFFFFFFFFFF):

PermissionMask check failed. asking for 0x00010000, have 0x00000000
PermissionMask check failed. asking for 0x4000000000000000, have 0xB008431061

Permissions required for "Copy..." function in "Manage Content and Structure"

Hi! I have a question...

I have created a custom permission role i sharepoint, lets call it "Creator". What List ans Site permission are needed to be able to use the "Copy..." function in sites and subsites in "Manage Content and Structure" tool in Sharepoint?

According to my tests the roles "Approve" as well as the "Manage Permissions" is required to be able to "Copy..". Why is this? Doesn't seem to have anything to do with each other.

Thank you for any hints and tips regarding this!!
