Uploading Excel 2007 table into WSS 3.0 - How does SharePoint decide the column that is used to edit

Hi, In Excel 2007, there's an option to upload (export) an Excel table into SharePoint.  The range of cells have to be identified as a table.  In the Table ribbon, there's an Export button.  When I upload the Excel 2007 table, SharePoint (WSS 3.0) decides which column in the table will be linked to the properties dialog box for each line in the table.  It seems to be a sporadic decision on the part of SharePoint. Does anyone know how WSS 3.0 decides which column will be linked to properties?  And, is there any way to control this when uploading the file? Thanks!Thanks! Patti N.

Hi All,

we receive error  while trying to create excel sheet using the template we have uploaded on the SharePoint 2007.

 

This occurs on a machine that has Office 2010 installed. Earlier the machine had Office 2007 and everything was working fine.

 

Can you let me know why is problem is coming and how to resolve this.

Does Sharepoint 2007 Server support the new Excel 2010 feaures like slicers? Or do i have to have Sharepoint 2010 to get that working (considering all other components besides Sharepoint 2010 are available in my Sharepoint 2007 environment) ?

Uploading an excel in to Sharepoint.

  
I must admit i am extremely frustrated with Sharepoint 2010.  It will not perform the simplest functions that Microsoft claims it will do. 1.  I have found it impossible to upload an excel document into a list.  I have selected 'create' and the 'import from an excel' file. I entered the name and found the file to upload using 'browse'.  I get the error code:  "The specified fiel is not a valid spreadsheet or contains no data to import".  I even simplified the excel document to 2 columns and 2 rows.  I simplified the data types and I still get the errors.  How do you get beyond this error?  2.  Also, using excel services, I have an excel document in a library, it will not open the excel file in a browser.  "The file you have selected cannot be found".  The file is actually present,  It can be opened in a sperate excel program, but will not open in a brower.  3.  when attempting to use Status indicators, When i enter a URL for the indicator value, "The SharePoint list URL does not resolve to a SharePoint list. Specify a valid URL for a SharePoint list." This occurs even when the URL is copy and pasted.  How is this solved?  Overall, i am extremely frustrated and disappointed in the usability of SP 2010.  I am not recommending this to any of my

Dear Expert, I've 1 project of sharepoint which is involved a scanning solution + sharepoint (document library) People will scan a set of invoice thru scanning device and then export to sharepoint (document library) as a PDF file. 1 invoice may have many sheet, but our scanning solution will group it into 1 and save as 1 pdf. After upload to sharepoint (document library) my Workflow will start to running and routing for approval But if they upload more than 6 invoice then the 7th invoice will get a error on WF to start (intermittent case).  Isit sharepoint have a limitation number of uploading??  

Excel 2007 Pivot table OLAP- SSAS 2008 Error

  
Hi, I do have a strange issue with Excel 2007 pivot table report; the data source is SSAS 2008 cube. When refresh the excel 2007 report data using the 'Refresh All' or 'Refresh' button available under the Data menu, the below error is thrown. "The expression contains a function that cannot operate on a set with more than 4,294,967,296 tuples." After some analysis, the report works well on the below workaround, 1. Remove all the calculated measures from report (3 measures in this scenario) 2. Remove one row label (dimension attribute) from report But the measures, attributes are valid one from cube and it is required fields in the report. So, understand that removing few items is not at all a solution. The below workaround also works. 1. Check the 'Defer Layout Update' option from the Pivot Table Field List window. 2. Click on the Update button After that Unchecked the 'Defer Layout Update' option and apply the filter, etc in the report. The report works very well. But every time, we need to use the above work around after open the excel report. I have NO clue on this issue. Please help to resolve this issue. Thanks, Jey

Hi When deleting  any column in document library we are getting the below error Unable to validate data.   at System.Web.Configuration.MachineKeySection.GetDecodedData(Byte[] buf, Byte[] modifier, Int32 start, Int32 length, Int32& dataLength)    at System.Web.UI.ObjectStateFormatter.Deserialize(String inputString) Also tried to hide/remove the search content place hoder in master page but nothing works. SharePoint 2007 to Access 2007 - Issues grouping by "Person or Group" field type/column

  
We are on SharePoint 2007 and using Access 2007.  The SharePoint list contains a column called Assigned Person, column type: Person or Group, single selection, displaying only the name 1) When we Open with Access and Export a copy of the data, then create a report from that table, we do not have the option to group on Assigned Person.  2) When we Open with Access and Link to data on the SharePoint site, then create a report from that list, when we group by Assigned Person... The same person has 2 groups - there are is no other grouping or sorts on the list, and i can't locate a correlation to another field to show why they would have to collections for the same person The Person or Group column sorts "from smallest to largest" as though it is a number field. The list is a task/activity tracking system we created custom for our needs.  We want to pull a weekly report, grouped by Assigned Person, but cannot get access to work.  We do not want to resort to anything more complex, as it takes a much longer process to have reports pulled by Chrystal or one of those types of applications.  And we cannot change out the field for something like a Choice column as the list already has a very large amount of content.  Can anyone assist? Is there a setting hiding somewhere that is causing the problem? 

Trouble importing strange column format report from Excel 2007 to SQL 08

Excel External Table Data can only create new SharePoint List when Exporting from Excel?

  
I have a SQL Query that I refresh everyday in Excel. I want to be able to export this list over to a SharePoint list right after my refresh in Excel but I can only Export to a SharePoint list only once. If I try to export again to the same list then it will give me the error "The specified list name is already in use on this server. You must rename the list before publishing it to the server." I have web parts that have connections to this list and I do not want to export my Query to a new SharePoint list everyday. Does anyone know a way around this issue?

Sharepoint 2010 and Excel 2007

  
i just installed sharepoing 2010 enterprise (not an upgrade) and sqlserver 2008 on another machine. everything is working well, however, i cannot open any excel documents saved in 2007 format. if i save the document in 2003 format, i can open and edit the file. this is not true for word, in which either 2003 or 2007 opens perfectly. not sure what the problem is. the error on the server is 5244. ExcelServerWebServiceApplication.Local: Could not get the web application associated with this context. This indicates that the Excel Server service is not properly registered or provisioned. is registered in event viewer.

When i export a list in excel 2007, it creates two extra columns named as type and path. At the same time this behaviour is not exhibited in office 2000. Is there any way to remove these two columns without using code ? Is there any configuration settings required for this, to remove it on the fly ? Thanks Ravish Verma
