I want

  • A column which lists number of characters in multiple list column example 188, 199 etc
  • Multiple character column must not have more than 200 chars
Is this possible?

How to read a column of a sharepoint list to a text string field of infopath form?

My infopath form used to read these email addresses from a web service and web.config file. Now i would like to get these user email addresses from a contact list in a sharepoint server. I am trying to do this without writing any codes. Here is what i have done so far: 1. Adding a new "data connection to receive data from SharePoint library or List" where i selected Email Address column of the contact list. 2. I added a new Text Field and define a new rule with "Query using a data connection" defined above. When i try to access the newly created Text field above it always return empty as if the Query attached to it did not executed at all. What did i do wrong? Is there a better way? Thank you in advance for your help.

Wrap text in Multiple Lines of text column

I had a List created from Calendar. I then took two copies of it to use for two slightly different purposes. I created a View on the list in both cases using the "Newsletter" style. On one of the list the Description column wraps text. In the other one it does not. Any idea what I could have done differently? Is there a checkbox in the View definition or the Column definition that toggles wrap text ?

Update Multiple Row in same column with different text


Hi all!

I am trying to explain with example what i want to do. I have a table that has names and surnames of people. Some of names are null in table and i know its number. I want to update null values but i want to give to every row different names not updating with single name.

Concatenating column values for multiple rows


I know this question has been asked many times. I am just trying to verify that my solution is correct.

I need to concatenate a column values with the rows being ordered on another column.

I initially used the FOR XML PATH clause for the purpose, and it worked wonders, until I had XML entities (&, < etc) in my data, and FOR XML PATH encoded those. After some searching on experts-exchange, I came up with the following code for myself:

	SET @freeFieldXml = '';
	SELECT @freeFieldXml = @freeFieldXml + '/' + Value FROM @fields ORDER BY CodeType;
	SET @freeFieldXml = STUFF(@freeFieldXml, 1, 1, '');

In my testing, the above code worked perfectly. I just want to confirm that the data would always be sorted on the desired column and the concatenated string would actually have the field values sorted by that column.

I always think tomorrow will have more time than today. And every today seems to pass-by

How to set a wpf combobox displaymemberitem to a column in 1 table and bind text displayed to a colu


I have a combobox that has a datacontext set to a 'Customer Type' that is a customer CRUD window in WPF that itself has a datacontext of 'Customer' - when i scroll through my customer table entries that have been populated into a listbox, all of the corresponding textboxes on my CRUD window update to reflect the values stored in the Customer table except the combobox.  If I change the datacontext of the combobox to be 'Customer' the text updates correctly when scrolling through but the dropdown contents are now duplicated to match the number of records.  So my problem is this;

How can I display the itemssource as the 'Customer Type.Customer_Type' datacontext, but display the Text as 'Customer.Customer_Type'?

The closest i could compare it to would be a winforms example of setting the combo's DataSource to 'Customer_Type' on the combo with a displaymember of 'Customer_Type' and then making the DataBindings 'Text' property of the combo to be 'Customer.Customer_Type' so it displays the value stored in customer but as soon as you drop it down it shows non-repeated values that are contained in customer_type.customer_type.

Right now in wpf if the datacontext is customer, the combo displays customer_type as follows:






Serialization using SQL server or storing a table object as text in a text column



I have a requirement in SQL server 2008 as follows:

I need to Insert into a particular table say Output at runtime where one of the columns (Content) of type text should contain an object of another table (Audit). This is currently being done through C# by serializing the Audit table and updating the Content with the serialized value. But this needs to be done in SQL now as per the requirement.

Can this be done by creating an object of Audit and storing in Output.Content in SQL itself?

Unique text value in databse column


Hi Everyone!

I know this is probably a very basic question but how do I keep a column's text values unique in SQL server (ie for a unique username)?  The column is not an integer it's varchar(50), and it's not the primary key but I could make it the primary key if recommended.

The front end could handle it;  where the user would enter text, it's validated, then a query is done to see if that username is available.  If so, then user can decide to choose it and an insert is done, if not they pick a new username and process repeats.  With this approach, the responsibility of keeping the value unique solely rests on the front end, nothing on the database side.

Is this the correct way to handle this?

Configure BDC column to have multiple values selected


How do I Configure BDC column to have multiple values selected and make multiple entities data available in the same column.  Currently it supports only single value for an item.  This requirement is crucial need some solution immediately.

BDC Column with Ability to Select Multiple Values


Use Case:

We are creating a storage location for technical product articles. These will be SharePoint publishing pages. Each page will have metadata assigned to it to make it searchable by properties. The possible values for one of the columns (Part Number) could potentially be sourced by our ERP system. I'd like to do this to eliminate the possibility of free-text entry errors, but there are probably over 10,000 parts so a drop-down list isn't feasible.


Ideal Situation:

The end user enters the part number and clicks a button to verify it against a BDC entry from our ERP system. If they weren't sure on the part number they needed, they could do a lookup from that metadata entry screen. They'd need to have the option to add multiple part numbers as one technical product article could reference multiple part numbers.



Is BDC an option for all of this or am I looking at a custom metadata solution? I thought I heard along the way that BDC only supported one value choice, but I couldn't find a verification for that in the forums.



Most efficient way to check whether a DataGridView contains some specific text at a specific column

Dear All,   I am looking at the most efficient way to check whether a specific column of a DataGridView contains some text. For example I have a list of firs names and I would like to check whether the text "Bob" already exists in that columns. Adding starting text to a column field

I am wanting to know if there is a way you can add starting text within a field that displays within a page layout?  I have a page layout that has a field (column) called 'page summary'. What I want to do is when a content managers creates a new page based on that page layout, the text "This page contains a public notice" is automatically inserted in the page summary field and the content manager can continue typing or highlight the text and remove it. Kind of like adding a base 'Text Value' to the field (column).  I want to be able to do it without having to do custom code though.

Hi, I have situation, where I want to copy the values from the above row to the newly created row in a Repeating table. Ex. I have a repeating table with 3 columns ID-Name-FileName. When I enter a data like 1-Customer1-File1.zip and hit "Insert new row", the new row should automatically populate the values of the above row. How can I do it without .Net code. Regards,

How to tell repeater to wrap text after certain number of characters for a particular column ?

I have a column in my repeater which allows as many as 255 characters and causes the page contents pushed away to the right if any of the record has all 255 characters in that column. How can I tell it to wrap the text after 50 characters ?Thanks,
